Eyeglass Prescription
Has anyone had recent experience they care to share on getting presumption filled for new glasses. The place i had the exam done doesn’t have an optical shop. I have problems with my eyes, besides the vision issue, and am asking for recent experiences, good or bad.
Are you on a tight budget? If so, try Zenni and order on line. If not, Manhire on Mountain Ave.
I've heard very good things about Costco and you don't have to be a member. I like Dr. Craft in Elmwood Park.............
Can you use old frames? I just got new frames last year from Pearl Vision, was hoping to be able to use them.
I second the Costco option. I paid over a thousand on some progressives at the mall and couple years later went to Costco and got two pairs for under five hundred. Good luck
I used goggles4u.com
I got two pairs of glasses for $90, one with photochromic lens and one with progressive lens. Shipped very quickly and the quality is top notch.
I used their BOGO deal.
Walmart has excellent prices for glasses. They are not employed by Walmart. They are certified doctors who rent the space from Walmart.
You won't be able to reuse frames with any of the on line sources that I know of. You'd have to go in person to one of the places where the lab would get the frame and custom fit it for you.
But I never really worried about that - at $10 for regular glasses, $25 for bifocal, and $35 for progressives it's not a big deal based on the price. But if you really like the frames for the looks then Costco or Sam's Club would be a good way to go.
Those are very reasonable prices for sure. I typically use Manhire as well as Pearl. It was Pearl who refit my frames with new lenses. At nearly $650 for my current pair, I can foresee me using an online option next time for certain.
Wish I had known about online options. I also just bought a new pair of glasses for $500+ at LensCrafters.
I don’t know if it’s worth it to use your old frames. I just got two pair of glasses from JCP and each pair was $100 including the lenses. It was actually most cost effective for me to just get the special.
When you do go to some of the in person places, remember to go over every option too. You can load up a pair with things like Transitions, "break proof" and "scratch resistent" lenses, gradient tints, etc. Those are all available on line too. But when you order a pair you see those options individually priced and you begin to ask how much of that you really need. The same $10 pair of regular glasses can quickly become $125 with tints and tougher lenses.
My insurance changed so one of the options was Pearle. They were not friendly or helpful at all. I wasn’t happy with the quality of the glasses either! Will look for other options next time.
Very happy with the glasses I got from Warby Parker (online). Frames and lenses both seem quite good quality. Kind of a mid-range option with nice, modern styles. When I priced the glasses I liked at my optometrist, they came out to over $800 with all the options (progressives, anti-glare, anti-scratch, etc.). At Warby Parker, I got frames I love, and all the bells and whistles for less than half of that. Also, they send you five pairs of frames at a time to try on at home for free, so you can see how they look on you before buying.
My daughter is very picky with frame (and glasses in general). We would usually buy a frame she likes first (we would check stores to try some, pick the one she likes and order on-line for much cheaper) and then put prescription lenses at Sam's Club. We did so for last 15 years and were never dissapointed with their service. Just after Thanksgiving she put lenses in her frame and it was a half price what she was quoted as LensCrafters. You don't need membership to use optical department. Doctor is also great if you need to check your vision and get prescription first.
For those ordering online, how do you know that you will like the frames on your face? Size, style, etc. I usually have to try on tons of pairs before finding ones that I think look good. I always just buy at my eye doctor's office. It's more expensive, but I know exactly what I am getting.
Calico - my daughter would try tons on frames (including at doctor office), we will take all info - brand, model number, name - and order on-line. Got Coach and Valentino this way and paid 3 times less than doctor's office wanted for them. We din't put lenses in frame, just buy a frame and submit claim to insurance. You could put lenses also but putting them at Sam's Club was cheaper. We ordered at doctor's office everything only once when my husband had super-good insurance and our doctor was in-network.
When ordering on line, do you just send them a copy of your script? Are there other measurements you have to provide for the frames?
when the "locals" go out of business....REMEMBER that you "used them" to obtain model numbers and names so you could get "somewhere else" cheaper.....GREAT Way to support BUSINESSES ..
Just my observation & opinion..
hands down; America's Best in Princeton, NJ
Got:
4 pairs of glasses ( 2 each for my husband and I) + 2 eye exams for 150 !
Best place ever.
Worth the drive.
Can make an appointment online; but I recommend calling first; to introduce and chat about goals.
I just got eyeglasses at Rockaway Walmart. $20.00 for the lenses (scratch proof). Frames start at $9.00 and go up from there. My total was $97.00 for the glasses. 1 year warrantee. I'm very satisfied.
"Can make an appointment online; but I recommend calling first; to introduce and chat about goals."
I'm not really sure what this means.....
that surprises me Rebecka, I would have thought you'd have a coach to discuss your #eyeweargoals with
