Colonial Manor reviews
I need reviews on colonial Manor senior citizen home. Has anybody had any good or bad experiences?

My mom has lived at the Mansfield Colonial Manor for around 10 years. Jackson and his wife run a very clean and caring facility that is very family oriented. The small staff have been there for years, the food is decent, their prices are less than the other 2 big senior care facilities and I can't say enough good things about their 2 places, the other being in front of Panther Valley. When we were busy over a few Thanksgivings my Mom had dinner with Jackson and his family because the owners do live on the premises also.
Folks, here's the thing...you want a nursing home that treats people with dignity....a bunch of these places are terrible facilities....saw a story on how how they made the folks sew all day.....not sure if it's true but heard at the same facility an air conditioning unit fell from a window and took out an elderly women

Hank, I believe that the only beverages that place serves are tall glasses of "shut the hell up". Disgraceful.
Bug3: best thing to do is schedule a tour so you can get your own feel. Do the residents seem happy? Is the facility clean. Maybe ask them for references, as well.
gotta love those reliable sources- Absolutely visit - perhaps more than once- speak to residents - notice the vibes -
I work for one.
Visit unannounced! They paint a pretty picture when you're expected.
Sit in the lobby for an hour or two, watch and listen...

LMAO apparently 4catmom and Luca never watched Happy Gilmore. Nice reference Hank and ianimal.
My Mom was there. She complained about the food all the time. She said they never had vegetables or salad. So I went a few times for meals to see what the true story was. No vegetables for lunch, They served hot dogs and a bag of chips. Coffee tea or water. The two dinners I attended were both chicken and rice with peas. Iy looked unappetizing to me she hated it so I just brought her meals. The employees turnover a lot. My Mom never got use to any of them. The cleaning staff was not too nice. She had to remind her to dust. I would go in there the day after the lady was suppose to clean and clean it the right way. For the amount of money they get there are flaws but I think all of them are horrible.

I worked in a senior living facility and now work in a dementia facility. CNA and PCA turn around is quite common in these type of facilities no matter how prestigious the facility is. They are underpaid and overworked with minimal benefits.
A tour or two and many questions, such as: Do they properly screen, train and educate their aids? Are their CNAs and PCAs up to date with their CPR and first Aid. Do they have a written zero tolerance policy? Do they always have an LPN on staff to oversee and supervise the aids? You'd like to see the weekly menu and the nutritional content. You'd like to see the activites calendar. Do they offer on site Physical Therapy? How often do they clean the room and how often do they change the bedding?
When you do find a place..please check in periodically. Try to take note the ratio of aids to residents. By law there has to be a certain amount of aids per shift depending on the number of residents. I've encountered this problem too many times and it certainly effects the proper care of the residents.
Also, the administrator is in charge and responsible for all of the above mentioned. If for some reason you have a problem with the administrator, I strongly suggest to look elsewhere.
Wonderful facility. Many updates to the menu. More choices, healthy meals including vegetables. The staff love their residents. You can see it. The residents will tell you they love it there. In the last years there has never been anything to complain about. The girl really cares about my mom. She has a cute nickname for her and my mom has one for her as well. It shows you how they can truly care for your loved one. The girls clean the rooms very nicely, put any laundry away that’s out. They dust all the pictures and set the blankets in fancy ways. There is nothing but love and life to this facility. Smart caring staff and an adorable friendly puppy
That's great - thanks for the review. I wanted to check the independent living part out to see how it would be for my mother.
I looked at Colonial Manor for my Mom a few years ago. Would have LOVED to have Mom become a resident but was concerned that she could not 'age in place'. Unfortunately there is dementia in the family and knew she would eventually need memory care. As of now, Mom is residing at the Chelsea and just moved into the secure memory unit. I agree with the above comments. Go visit at off times - ask to see the living accommodations - observe the resident's menus - review the scheduled activities. Make your best decision. Good luck with everything.
