Warren versus Sussex (NJ State) Fair
Took the kids to the WC Fair Tuesday night. They had a good time... rode the crappy few little rides that they had, saw the animals, had some junk food, watched the balloon ascension, etc. Total cost for family of 4 for admission and ride wristbands $28 ($9x2 + $5x2) + $30 x 4 = $148 plus CC fees, which brought it up over $150.
Tomorrow we're going to the NJ State Fair at Augusta... total cost for admission and all-day ride wristbands? $30 each for adults and $25 each for kids for a total of $110.
What do you get for $40 less? More and better rides, more exhibits, live entertainment for the kids (magic show, jugglers, a comedy show featuring 12 dogs, pig races), a lumberjack competition, horse riding competitions, better food, three beer tents, a wine tent.... I could go on and on.
I think I've attended my last WC Farmer's Fair, to be honest. The old line was that it was exactly the same every year... but now it seems to be shrinking. There used to be a lot more carnival games by the rides... this year there were only a couple.
You are comparing apples and oranges, ianimal. One is a State Fair and always been bigger and better than our little WC Farmer's Fair run by mostly volunteers who work day and night to make it a success and to keep with the theme of being a "Farmer's Fair".....But you said the magic words and they were:"Took the kids to the fair and they had a GOOD TIME"...Isn't that what is really important here? All things considered (Covid).. we are all lucky that we were even able to hold a local fair this year...
joyful, I'll weigh back in tomorrow night after I've polled the wee ones as to which one they preferred...
The Warren county Fair was always mediocre imo. Maybe they took advantage of the inflation too
We were there Wednesday - IMO no reason to do it again. There was a fair amount of junk for sale..........fair food............some good looking farm animals....and not much else.
Twice was enough.
It's a farmers fair, FFA exhibits, 4H and tractor competitions..the Warren County fair has felt the same for over 30 years for sure. Maybe pricier but most people attend because they like that atmosphere, not for the best attractions.
Sussex County...you pay admission...then a $25 ticket for the rides..$5 carnival games

First of all, the kids had a good time and that's what matters. They are also two different events run totally differently. But, I will ad that if you have 110 and 150 in one week to spend on entertainment, consider yourself a lucky person. Just have a good time with the kids, who I'm sure will make good memories.
The original Sussex fair was held in Branchville and had the atmosphere of an old time farmer fair. When they moved to their current location they became too big and lost the farmer charm that our Warren fair retains. You can't put a price on good memories and money well spent. Sure, things have gotten expensive but inflation is a part of growing up. I remember buying a soda for ten cents in a vending machine and now they are close to two dollars. LOL
I remember the tri-county fair on Rt. 57 in Mansfield, I think it was in Mansfield. ?
That was what my kids loved. No longer there any more.
The Tri-County fair was on 57 in Mansfield, I believe in the field next to the now DPW building. Always a fun time!
One of the workers at the WFAN radio station took his kids to the now open American Dream complex and his kids had a great time at the Nickelodeon Park. He said it's so big that's all they had time for in one day . Rides , water park , skiing all year round , plus a huge number of stores . Something to during the cold winter months .
