When did Blockbuster close that was next to Pietro's?
Hey guys, I love Hackettstown and everything in it. I moved to Califon in 2007 and I never looked back. 14 years later and both blockbuster and pietro’s are out of business. What year did both of these businesses close down and where is the closest blockbuster?
The closest Blockbuster would be Bend, Oregon, quite a hike from Hackettstown. Pietro’s is now Blackstones.
Blockbuster moved out in 2012 according to old HL messages. When you can get Netflix or rent a movie right from your cable connection, Blockbuster will never be viable.
While Pietro's closed- Pete opened Blackstone's shortly after so theoretically no interruption of service.
Blockbuster was then and is still irrelevant to me! LOL
There is only one Blockbuster in the United States and it is scheduled to close this summer.
Yet still I remember, "Be kind, rewind."
Guess that's another one for the young people thread.
Welcome to the age of streaming. It's not 1995 anymore. Walmart and other places have Redbox machines if you want to rent DVDs.
Hi Joe,
Just in case this is a serious question, blockbuster is out of business. If you're looking to rent a movie, you can try a Redbox. It's like a vending machine for movies. There's one at the entrance to Walmart. https://www.redbox.com/locations
The user who posted about Oregon is correct - there is still one Blockbuster left in existence and it's in Bend.
I cant get cable or internet where i live so its still 1995 for me ..i still buy dvds and dont have the option for cable or internet..No joke
Anyone remember the spot Pietro's was originally in prior to when they moved to the spot where Taste of Italy is now? Pietro's is one of my earliest memories of eating out with my family, oddly enough. Always had great italian subs loaded to the gills!
Blockbuster was a ripoff . I used to go to JMD video in the Crossroads strip mall on route 517 . Two for the price of one movie rentals on Thursday and movies coming out Tuesday available to rent (not buy) on the Friday before - all you had to do was call and reserve the movie the day it was released , or in this case Friday morning before the official release on Tuesday. The rental return time was the store closing time of the 2 day rental period , not noon time the second day like BB . Sonny's Pizza being next door was an added bonus .
@Boss - sounds like Starlink might be right for you when it fully rolls out https://www.starlink.com/
Just as a sidenote, the "Be kind, rewind" saying helped make it easy for the next customer, BUT is the thing a VHS collector shouldn't do. Tapes should be stored "end out", just as they are when you finish the movie. Rewinding pulls the tape very tight as well as stretches it somewhat. That always resulted in "overprinting" after a while. It was bad enough that the VHS format didn't have that high of a resolution, but even worse when you get magnetic bits transferred from one section of tape to another.
Pietro's was good, but for good old Italian food, one could always bet on Piccola Italia in the small strip mall in Budd Lake! OMG!!! The Chicken Contadina was to die for!!!!
We were regular patrons of Pietros. That is until we were there and placed our order including soft drinks. When mine arrived I noticed a very long hair floating on top. I went up to the front and had the displeasure of speaking to Pete's wife. She proceeded to scream at me, causing quite a scene. She said how did she know it wasn't my hair. Since I hate scenes, I told her to never mind and to make my order to go. We have never been back since, neither to Pietros nor Blackstones. They lost a good customer over a glass of soda.
DiMaio Brothers Pizza, wow blast from the past. Cara Mia was also a great spot for graduations, first communions, etc.
