EZ pass violation - dispute?
I don't have or use ez pass, always pay cash with toll collector, but received this violation. the date/time, place (Delaware bridge phillipsburg/Easton) and photo of my vehicle are all correct, however, I paid cash, the toll lit up 1.00, and the toll collector asked if I needed a receipt (which I thought was odd because they never ask that). has anyone had success in disputing something like this, or should I save myself the aggravation and just pay it?
I have received a few of those and have had success with disputing these a each time. Like you I do not have EZ pass and always pay cash. Call the number on the paperwork and speak to a representative, they will dismiss the violation and any fees.
I had something similar happen some years ago. Also asked if I wanted a receipt. Anyway I called the bridge authority and explained that I paid cash and they corrected it. I think I called ez pass first and they told me to call the authority. It can't hurt to fight it but it could very well help. Good luck!
I got ticket for going thru ez pass without paying. It never happened! We paid the $1 toll. I sent letter stating that and I said in the letter, if you have pic of me not paying then look again and you'll have pic of me absolutely paying. Never heard another word.
I got a violation in the mail for a bridge on Long Island. I was not anywhere in the area, so I requested the camera photo. The license plate number had a C in it, but the person writing the ticket put down G which is my plate. There was a specific address to send a response. So I printed the violation, a copy of my registration with the correct plate, and the right make/model, and sent it to the address. About 3 weeks later I got a letter in the mail that said the violation was satisfied for "wrong vehicle identification". Just put your story in writing and send it to them. By all accounts they're generally forgiving.
I had this happen as well and was successful in disputing it even though I didn't have a receipt. They gave me a little bit of a hard time so I always ask for one now so I have proof in case I need it.
Can't you just write tour ez pass transponder number or account number on it and send it back without the necessity for adjudication?
They are definitely not forgiving! Depends on who you get...most have zero care and just open a case for review.
Many in my company use ez pass, one guy was going down the turnpike, the sensors read him as a car one toll, and as a tractor trailer the next toll. He fought and fought and fought, and could not win it.
I have been hit for a wrong vehicle code in my work van, and was (randomly) charged $6 for the toll over the PA-NJ bridge, sometimes...other weeks I was only charged $1....fought and fought and fought, and they would not reverse the charge because whoever originally setup my ez pass apparently put the wrong vehicle code down....even though for 4 years this problem had never happened...i know makes no sense.
I got hit with a large truck charge when I towed a shed on a normal sized trailer over the Delaware bridge into PA, that I actually got them to take one back.
Ez pass left message on my phone violation dismissed and bridge authority had me send a copy of violation to them. Hope this clears it up now.
I filled out proper paperwork and sent my letter with explanation. NY never bothered to send a response one way or the other. They are poorly run organization with employees that can't get a job anywhere else.
Don 't expect anything. In the future, PAY CASH & GET RECEIPTS>>SAVE THEM FOR SEVERAL MONTHS>
i send twice a copy of the fines with my ez pass number from ny , they never answered
and then send me bill from collector agency.
when i call, they take about 45 mts to answer and they act like we are annoyed them .
when request for supervisor they hung up .
Ez pass sucks. I had a credit card attached to my account that would reload $25.00 after I dropped below 5 bucks (I hardly used it). That card expired, but they kept taking their $1.00 a month fee. Long story short, I get a letter that I am in collection for -$2.50 because they kept taking their fee, never alerted me about the credit card. I obviously paid it and moved on with my day, but what a crock of you know what!
Yes, I can see where you would expect them to stop billing because your card expired and yet you kept the contract open...…...not. If you actually thought you were violated, a simple point n click charge dispute would have saved you the time and money.
Only time I was mischarged, as in drove through a toll but they didn't click my account, so I got the ticket, they answered relatively quickly and fixed everything, no problem.
Guess I was a lucky one!!!
I've had a few similar incidents over the years with various bridges. Only took a phone call and an explanation and they removed any charge. Never had a problem with resolving it.
I've had EZ Pass for at least 15 years, probably closer to 20, and have never had a problem in any state in the northeast. Not once. Maybe I was just lucky too. Maybe I should play the lottery more often? :-)
