photography classes for SLR camera?
Hi, does anyone know of any places that have photography classes. I would love to learn how to use my fancy camera! Thanks!

What kind of camera (make/model) did you get? What type of photography are you looking to do? That might help us... although as far as I know there is only one person in town itself who gives formal classes / lessons - anyone remember the local photogs name?
Oh and p.s. -- CONGRATULATIONS on your new toy! Photography is totally addictive.
I know you wanted a class but...
I highly recommend this book:
http://www.amazon.com/Understanding-Exposure-3rd-Edition-Photographs/dp/0817439390/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1340663773&sr=8-1&keywords=understanding+exposure
Since you have a digital camera, you'll get to instantly see your results. The key is too take lots of pics and notes - much easier to do in the digital era.
Regarding the class, here's one possible one I found on google. NOTE THAT THIS IS NOT AN ENDORSEMENT as I've never heard of this place:

+1 @ emaxxman - take LOTS or pictures!
I'm self taught, but here are a couple of the the books on my shelf:
Joe McNally, "The Moment It Clicks"
http://www.amazon.com/Moment-Clicks-Photography-Secrets-Shooters/dp/0321544080/ref=sr_1_4?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1340665841&sr=1-4&keywords=joe+mcnally
Scott Kelby, "The Digital Photography Book"

Good luck & I hope to meet you on one of the HL photography walks!
Heart and Sohl Photography offer workshops...but that may be more about photography than how to use the camera. Check them out on Facebook, I think they post the workshops there, or you can call Jessi, she is absolutely incredible to work with, very kind and talented.

I used to write down the exposures for every frame that I took on a roll of film. Tedious at first but after awhile, I got good at remembering what the lighting conditions were and what settings I had. The ability to see how your settings affect the results instantaneously with digital is truly a miracle for all photogs.
Also, a class will help you with the technical settings but the most difficult thing to master, IMO, is to visualize the image you want. The ONLY way to get better is to look at and take lots of pics. Study every single picture you come across think about what you like about it or don't like about it.
And as always, if you have questions, feel free to post the question here. Lots of great folks here ready to help.
SportShotsLive - I'm self-taught too.
I took one a few years ago at warren county college. It was good for the basics but that's about it. I don't know it the same person still teaches there, but if so I wouldn't recommend it to anyone. He would assign projects taking pictures for us to bring in as slides. He rarely ever got to anyone's work because he was so busy talking about himself, and showing his pictures. Very frustrating. Basically just a class to feed his ego.
Re: Natalie's comment
The general photography workshop at the Heart & Sohl Studio covers various topics of interest to the members. The group is called the Skylands Photography Circle and you can receive email notifications of it's activities by signing up (free) at http://www.meetup.com/Skylands-Photography-Circle. You can see scheduled meetings and see the previous meetings.
It is also listed on Facebook as Skylands Photography Circle.
There was another guy right in town that offered classes that I was thinking of. Robert I believe was his first name. Anyone remember?
There is also Rimi Studios in Washington.

Not sure of what each class offers by way of using a specific camera.
This Groupon just hit the inbox today. Disclaimer: I have NO idea who this company is or if they are any good. Do the leg work and you might save some $$

I haven't taken courses at Unique Photo, but I've bought and rented equipment. They are rebatible , but getting something out of the course probably depends on who is teaching and your skill level.
Try camerasim for the ipad if you have one. I just read about it in Shutterbug mag. It's supposed to help people learn how to use an SLR.
I 've never used it so I can't say if it is good or not.
