What's Your Thermostat Set To?
With home heating oil at $5.60/gallon, I NEED to turn down my thermostat.
Right now it is at 55F but maybe that is still too HIGH?
What is your setting?
To me what other people's thermostat setting is set to is irrelevant. Place your set point temperature to whatever allows you to be comfortable. If that setting requires the need to wear heavier clothing indoors or sitting with a blanket that will help moderate comfort.
If you feel 55 degrees is too high as far as cost, then a lower temp may help. There are also other mechanical things to do to allow the unit run more efficiently and therefore economically. The amount of fuel burned is just one part of the equation on how a furnace or boiler operates. Naturally, the home itself as it relates to energy efficiency. Perhaps a home audit would help identify areas that mat need attention to be more efficient.
Just some thoughts...
All that but gerg no answer....
73-75 but i burn pellets mostly so no fuel price increase this year as i got em before oil trickle down hit pellet prices. plus, lots of wood out there. Also have lots of passive sun so 78 today: no shirt, shorts. And extra thick attic insulation. Took advantage of every energy progra m out there so actually paying less for fuel than when i kept it at 70.
love it when a plan comes together even as the wheels come off in DC.
Richard Nixon asked that we set our temp at 68 degrees.. We set ours at 70 year round. Out pellet stove has a built in thermostat which works well and it keeps us warm. Which heat source do you use? Oil, gas wood or electric?
