High school seaside trip concerns

Hello everyone, my stepdaughter came home for the weekend and was telling me about a school trip for juniors and seniors to Seaside. I wanted to reach out and see what people’s thoughts are. I’ve heard mixed things from other parents and apparently it has a bad reputation, so I’m just looking for some feedback.

I am a mom of a high schooler and my child will not be allowed to go,
at least not for her Junior year. I believe they are too young to have that kind of independence without any adult supervision for many reasons. I trust my child but feel too many things could go wrong that they are not mature enough to know how to handle properly.

It's probably not a "school trip" just continuation of a decades long tradition to go to the shore, the day after prom. The difference now is that the kids go for overnights, not just the day (as I did way back when) and that's when trouble starts. My son went as a senior but came home early. Stories of drunk kids, fights on the boardwalk, kids trashing the hotels, etc. As noted in the post above, Seaside itself is trying to curb the activity.

When I was in High School, way back in the 70's, we ran our own ski club with two one-week stays every year. We got volunteer (free trip) chaperones for every trip. We also hired a bus, with our favorite driver.

Yes, there was drinking, necking, everything you can imagine that goes on at any High School dance, on campus.

As far as I know, no one was hurt or emotionally damaged any worse that any High School dance.

In my case, a bit of an outsider, introvert, I made friends and grew a lot. I was surprised how nice and caring the kids were. Might have just been a great group of kids, like yours no doubt. Also, we knew the responsibility we had for our actions, and for the future kids to be able to do the same. Did not want to ruin that.

Not recommending. Not suggesting it works even. But it did for us and I have great experiences across Vermont and even into Canada for one trip.
