Older homes near main street

Hi, do families buy/live in older homes in walking distance to Main Street? Or is it mostly businesses and investors/landlords? Any input on what in town living would be like for family of four (elementary school age)? I would really appreciate any insight from residents. Thank you in advance.

While there are certainly some buildings used as offices etc. the vast majority of homes in the first or second blocks off Main street are private homes. I also consider the area near Centenary walking distance as well since that is just a few blocks from Main street. Naturally some of those are rental units but still homes for folks. There are a few different zoning areas in the town that determine the allowable use of a building. The zoning map is available online at Hackettstown.net.
