Memorial Day

I read the recent the thread lamenting the reduced posts on H'town Life. So here is my first new post (there will be more).
The Memorial Day parade has been an institution in town for well over a century. While the more recent St. Patrick's Day parade is a fun event, it seems to have overshadowed the Memorial Day parade and I have witnessed a dwindling attendance and participation in the latter.
I invite you to do some research and learn the origin and true meaning of Memorial Day, originally known as Decoration Day. If you have not attended the Memorial Day parade at all, or perhaps not recently, please consider attending.
Even more importantly, please go to Union Cemetery where the parade ends and attend the ceremonies. It will be your opportunity to show your gratitude and pray for our fallen veterans who gave all for their country; our country.
Again, remember that Memorial Day is the day to honor our fallen veterans and not about rushing to the box stores for sales.
PLEASE HELP SPREAD THE WORD. Thank you.

Thank you for this post. I usually go to a Memorial Day ceremony in Long Valley (they do not have a parade), however it is on Saturday this year, and unfortunately I cannot attend.

Here are the details for the 157th Memorial Day parade and ceremony at the cemetery.

That is so sad to hear, WC guy.
I grew up in Hackettstown. That parade and ceremony were amazing. The wreath in the river at the cemetery was so touching.
I agree, people need to attend out of respect and to also honor the history in the town, too.
I don't live in town anymore. I have such wonderful memories of the parade.
