Question about the group
Is this the same forum where we all used to meet up for drinks and such. I recognize some names. And I can't remember my handle as it has been since around 2007.
Yes. This forum has been around since about that time. Folks were getting together in person often for breakfast as well as drinks on occasion.
Nice. I moved out of Hackettstown about then and lost contact with everyone. I recently saw a member from the past and it reminded me of those days.
This forum is no longer active like it used to be. Seems that after covid, participation in this forum has dropped significantly unfortunately. I've been in here since 2015 & found it very helpful when I first moved to PV.
The forum is broken - I can’t start new topics - moderator started deleting posts and the community left.. I use the APP - NextDoor
There is no free speech here and much restriction without explanation. Limits participation.
The forum is broken - the owner should shut it down when you post it says you posted in 4 hours ago … as residents we should just let it go.
I thought hackettstownlife used to be a more interesting, old-school bulletin board/listserv type forum, compared to the toxic nature of next door and Facebook groups. Those platforms seem to attract or maybe reward toxic, reactive type postings.
This forum had a lot of interesting town characters and helpful info through the years. Snarkiness and banter yes, but maybe a little more civility and "neighborly" feel than what is out there now. thanks to everyone who shared their thoughts here.
This is the same group that used to get together for lunch or coffee or other special events and it was great back then....found myself also as the Forum got larger and larger and more and more people were posting...shying away a bit as some of these people really were not very nice in what they had to say or to whomever they were saying it to. It also got to be more game type posts instead of noting when a new place opened up in town to eat or finding a good plumber or doctor. Welcome back... "joyful"
I've been on here for quite a while too. It seems as though a few folks got into "The Patch," but it never seemed to really take off. The "Next Door" app seems to have picked up people, though people there complain about hosts deleting posts, etc.
Then you have the Facebook Community, which is mixed in its responses and postings as well.
It's hard to have civil discussions anymore when so many people almost instinctively jump to the rude comments and name calling, rather than actually saying anything of substance, or quoting the latest rumors that are stated as if they were Gospel. Quite a turn off IMHO.
Glad to see some of the "originals" back. I too used to enjoy reading the latest news & tidings of things happening in the area. But then I couldn't start a new topic or it was always just the Five Word Sentence or ABC thing updated. It kept me informed on things a bit, like when the CVS was coming to Main Street or new stores opening up or yard sales, etc. Even during the Covid time when we were all trying to get our vaccine appointments, it was calming to hear how everyone was coping. Since my newspaper stopped printing & went online only, I get less & less news. I feel disconnected.
I hope we can resurrect this so we can just hash out our concerns and share our interests without some meanie calling us "nosey" or "woke" or something.
I agee with all of the above this use to be a great forum for information and guidance on such things from firewood, gutter cleaning and many other topics without the toxic enviornment of facebook. Let's hop we can bring life to to Hackettstownlife.
I agree with all above
I usually don’t post but decided to take a try a while back
All I experienced was snarky attacks from posters that when I checked other conversations it seemed these posters were on many of the topics critiquing anyone that had a different take on the topic
I thought these people have too much time on their hands
I haven’t been on here since
This is probably my last comment on here
Good luck! To everyone
I hope it all changes for the better
Way back in the beginning, I posted a lot. The last few years, however, nearly every post I make takes many hours before it shows up on the site, so usually I don't bother trying.
I'm a "poster" from way back when hlife began. It is very sad that it slid down to almost nothing. I hope the moderator reads the comments that have been made about "the group." Perhaps improvements can be made to hlife and people who stopped posting will begin to post once again. I have friends who I met via hlife who are still my friends today! I say - let's keep posting and bring Life back to Hackettstownlife. Moderator?
