Join a trade group that offers group coverage based on membership. Then you can get better rates. It may not be a huge amount of plans, but the rates are definitely better. I was told that applies even to sole prop's.

NJ Business and Industry does that, the underlying insurance is Horizon of NJ.

At least for individuals, in NJ, ACA is bout the only place to find plans; use the website to investigate. Feature grids keep em honest but it’s a maze. I built a number of spreadsheets to further compare. For some reason, United Healthcare has a plan but operates outside of ACA so their feature grid might have difference so. Don’t matter, they are really expensive.

It’s NJ so our regulations make it pretty hard to get ripped off through chicanery and the price differences are generally due to premiums, deductions, copays, and drug formularies (how many drugs on their list and which are “specialty). The last one is mostly important IF you already take interesting pharmas for preexisting conditions. If so, they have list proces so you can check.

Once you narrow it down, the insurers have 1-800 people you can query but watch out, there may be third party and agents trying to talk to you to. Not as good and can be pushy. The insurance ones are usually not as I can still email mine with questions a year after starting.

Due to circumstances beyond my control, I will buy new insurance 5 times in 24 months. Don’t ask, it’s the price of success I guess. However, that made me really look hard to be able to get it right. And it is still hell on Earth.

Go to a broker who has insurances, probably business insurance too. there are 2 in Hackettstown that I am aware of: Stuber Insurance on Rt. 46 near the crazy intersection; and another on on Rt. 517 near that coffee shop and car detail place (can't recall the name right now).

they get better rates I heard than calling the places on your own!

You heard? Again, I can only speak to private insurance to which I would say; better check that one, does not make $en$e to me. Not often you can add layers of expense and expect to pay less.
