Where is the nearest turf that is open to public?

Morrison field is not open to the public, Cent's lacrosse field and new baseball field are not open to the public. Warren hills has one. I know Mt. Olive has Turkey Brook Park. Is there any in Long Valley/ Chester, Budd Lake. I am looking for the nearest possible one...thanks

It's not that close, but Central Park in Morris Plains has turf.

What’s wrong with grass? I’m not sure why you feel entitled to use another towns synthetic field.

Probably because he's a Cowboys fan. ;-)

I thought turf WAS grass.

@Yolanda,
If it’s open to the public, it’s open to the public - regardless where you live. SMH why you would care.

because beerFan if you are not a resident of the town then you need approval to use their facilities. While Turkey Brook is open to the public, to use one of their turf fields non residents need prior approval and pay a fee.

But getting approval and paying a fee has nothing to do with feeling entitled. If Dak plays by that town’s rules, why should Yolanda care?

‘Open to the public’ is not the same as ‘available for rent’ teams pay hundreds of dollars for field time.

@YolandaCastro why do you care so much? I bet you’ve gone to other town’s parks but it probably wasn’t a problem when you went to a their out of your town right? Playing on turf isn’t being “entitled” at all. I’ve played on turf fields in not so great areas such as Newark/Paterson. Are those kids also “entitled” to play on it as well? As far as going to another town to use their park.. I’ve never heard of anything illegal about that. If it’s open to the public, then it’s not a problem. If there are teams there who pay hundreds of dollars for field time, and have a practice scheduled, then no you cannot use it. There’s no need to come on here and be rude to someone asking a simple question.

Unfortunately I can’t think of any other turf fields close besides the ones you named

@Yolanda
because as the fall and winter comes the ground freezes; turf doesn't. And I don't know about you. But I would rather have the players fall on turf rather than frozen grass. If it is an open field, how does that make me feel entitled? I'm sure you have been to other parks not in Hackettstown. . . Don't try and throw shade.

@Beerfan & @Shay M thank you.

I think you guys are confusing- "Open to the public" with "publicly owned".

Example- a country club at a golf course can be members only, or 'open to the public'... while still being a privately owned business.

I’m failing to see the parallel. Turf fields aren’t like parks. They’re not there to just go play around on for free.

Yolanda,
If Dak gets approval and pays the fee to use the turf field, how is he being entitled? It’s a business transaction. Like me renting out a banquet hall to host a function there.

Regardless who owns a facility, open to the public means no membership fee needed, but you may still need to pay to use the facility for that particular day, like going to play golf at a “public course”. No membership fee is needed, but you still need to pay to play.

If Dak is interested in paying for the field time I would be pleasantly surprised. When I worked for a nearby Rec dept years ago we were constantly dealing with trespassers on the fields that we maintained for our youth sports teams. Funny not one of them ever tried to be up front and ask.

Yolanda I’m not understanding why you’re sill here arguing over “trespassing” to go to a public field lol. If you want to be the turf police, then go to Turkey Brook where everyone uses the turf fields and where cops sit and watch people from other towns use it. Reality is, not EVERY turf field requires you to pay because it’s PUBLIC.

Dak already pointed out he knows about turkey brook. Most turf fields require a rental fee because of the immense expense of building and maintaining a synthetic field.

“When I worked for a nearby Rec dept years ago we were constantly dealing with trespassers on the fields that we maintained for our youth sports teams.”

Where were they located? If a public park or school- they were not trespassing and needed no permission.
