Best place to sell a junk car?

Searched the forums and recommendations are a few years old. I have a 2002 Ford Escort ZX2 with a broken brake line. Not willing to put anymore money in, just bought new tires for it. Anyone have recent experience with a either a local junkyard or cash for junk car place?

look in the other catagory in the classified section of this site. i sold a car to bobby who posted on here. 973-786-5559

I had good luck with Roxbury Auto Wreckers. If you go to their website it shows what they'll pay per lb. (curb weight) for your car. I tried Byram Wreckers, but they gave me a lower quote for the ones I needed to sell. If you can drive it there, that gives you the best price, but with a bad brake line, not a good idea. They normally take $50 off the price (as I remember) if they need to tow it for you and the guy comes out with cash in hand.

https://www.roxburyautowreckers.com/sell-a-car/

If you check their scrap prices page, under "Cars" it states that they're paying $7.75 per hundredweight for complete cars with Catalytic Convertor and battery. Since your car's curb weight is around 2464 lbs. or so, that turns out to be just shy of $191 dollars, minus the $50 for the tow leaves you around $140 as their likely offer, though if it has a special engine and the rest of the car is in great shape, etc. they may pay you full face value and throw in the tow, which they did for one of the 3 I ultimately sold them. They may be willing to do that since you said you had brand new tires on it. Make sure you mention that (new tires) if and when you fill in the quote request. The tow driver was a really great guy too.

Of course if it's in great shape besides the brake line issue, you could put it in the classifieds on here and/or on Facebook, etc. and see if you have any buyers that are willing to tow it away and make you a nice offer since they do get pretty good MPG. Someone with skills may want it as a basic commuter runner after replacing the line(s). Best of luck, whatever route you take.

You don’t have to even speak with anyone anymore. Go online, find the junkers, fill out the form online (milage, make, drivable, etc) and they’ll send you a quote.
I looked but can’t remember who I just used. One gave me $40 more than other offers, picked up, paid cash, not much though.

I should have done it long ago, but I'm finally getting around to unloading my old 99 GMC Sonoma. (S10 equivalent) Sorry Bubba, just not used enough to be paying insurance on it. It's got 240k on it, rust, and exhaust that's throwing the check engine light. Not to mention I've let it sit and the battery is down and I really don't want to keep up with it.

So I'm in a similar situation, and looked for a couple places on line. I found peddle.com - it was easy without having to put much information in. I got an offer of $360 which includes the tow since I'm not counting on getting it started even if I can. I got it with a Husky tool box worth $100. At $460 it's about the $500 I was hoping to get. I haven't accepted the offer yet but it's tempting and I suspect I'm not going to get more than that.

If I put in the info of your car dianeR, it comes up with a bit over $300 and includes a tow. If it's just for pure scrap that's better than about $200 Phil D mentioned. But it assumes scrap and not something a junker might buy to sell for parts.

Good luck either way.

Thanks all, some good suggestions. The car is in good shape, but I'm just done.

How about contacting the Mansfield Fire Department. Often fire departments take older junk vehicles and they use them to practice using the jaws of life And other extraction methods that may Be needed during an automobile accident. Also, a school that has an automotive department, such as a technical school, may appreciate a car that the students could practice on. You may not get any money for the car, but you may be able to get a tax deduction for such a donation

The OP asked where to SELL a car not give it away . And if anyone thinks their second amendment rights are under attack move out to PA where any goober with a driver's license can own a large personal arsenal . Hell most of the paranoid gun enthusiasts I know there have a permit to carry concealed firearms . Small wiener syndrome don't you know !

Good point .I didn't think of the tax deduction . Also Cash for Clunkers could return for a second bout depending on the results of the upcoming election .
