B&R Uniform Color Change?

After the fire at B&R Uniform we saw a lot of work and what appeared to be a finished job with the building painted black and now they removed the facing and are repainting it a different. Did they not like the color? Looks like a lot of work to redo it.

I'm guessing however possibly the black was only a primer and now the final finish has been applied. The building looks very nice. They've done a lot of work to get it back in shape. Hope B&B is open for business again soon. I wish them well.

I noticed that a week or so ago as well

I was not convinced the all black with the gold on the applied molding was ever the finished look. I mean in my opinion, it was not good looking at all. I assumed it was just something to have on there until the final finish was to be applied.

It looked finished in the black, but horrible! Thankfully they changed it, it looks nice now.

Hopefully the one side wall that is now black will be painted the cream color as the front of the store is now. It looks so gloomy painted black as you head westbound on Main St. (especially with the mural gone on that wall). Otherwise the storefront looks really nice...Also wishing them well....

Product Failure is what happened.
We applied 100% PVC to the face of the building and it Melted and Moved in the Sun and Heat. Applegate Construction stands by its work. So I decided on my own dime and peice of mind to remove the entire face and use a Exterior Grade MDO Plywood and Colored Metal to fight against any movement. The Building will be painted black and gold again by the owners request. We are proud of our work and stand behind the quality we produce.

I agree with No regrets that I do like the black and gold but as soon as i saw it I thought it looked like and old Irish or English pub.

Don't get me wrong, black and gold are great colors, just don't like showing High School colors on our Main Street main intersection. Taste is subjective and I can think of sunnier colors that go with the sidewalk better... ;-) Or something a tad more subtle. Perhaps the new surface will tone it down a bit.

Of course, with Marley's, I guess the gloves are off :>) Bazinga that's a color scheme.....

Except it's not gold, it is a horrible yellow.

Yes, it's a first world problem but a lot of people would like our town to look nice, maybe even be a place that outsiders come to and spend money. Even with pink sidewalks that have dangerous steps and crosswalks to slow down working people while illegals cross.

Jim L said B&R was going to be all black and Joseph a said it isn't so I guess we'll see since Jim L seems to know everything going on around here.

Which is, of course, 100% opinion, as to how to define "nice". Some on this thread think the black DOES "look nice."

And I think it's safe to say that EVERYONE "wants our town to look nice", so who's right and who's wrong?

I think you should wait until its complete to give your opinion. I was always taught not to judge a book by its cover. When you have a chance you should go inside and see amazing job that was done.Their is no store/shop in Hackettstown that is as nice as B&R Uniform. The fire was a huge hit on a family owned business. They took this tragedy and rebuilt an amazing store in less than 1 year. My hat goes off to Justin and all his hard work. Most commenting here seem to like the black & gold. When I first saw it done, my initial feeling was that I hoped that wouldn't be the final color, and I don't like it. But it's not my store. I kind of like the faux brick, but don't think too much of it would look great either. And I definitely don't like that entire side wall being black. Wish the mural could be restored. That was unique.

I wish you people would give up on that mural. Look at it this way, it may have been destroyed in the fire. Nothing lasts forever. Booster90 have you been inside B&R since they have reopened after the fire!? Before you make comments about the building on the outside maybe you should go and take a look inside and see what they have done. I don’t see anyone complaining on how all the building next to B&R look and are falling apart. Rather then criticizing a building that was just rebuilt after a fire why aren’t we happy for a family owned business that’s back up and running!

People are allowed to express their opinions about a store front. I'm sure everyone is happy to have this long time business up and running and eager to see them move back into their space. The owner may be a lovely guy and the contractor very skilled. No one is disparaging any of those folks or the business at all. However if people want to comment that the choice of color scheme for a building at one of the most visible intersections on Main street is ugly so be it. It is ugly in my opinion. It appears to be some sort of attempt at looking chic or something. It just happens to have failed. It is what it is. It is simply another store front in town with a dubious color choice. They will still enjoy a fine customer base and hopefully many years of a successful business.

I wondered how long it would last - I believe the original work was done with PVC trim which cannot be painted with a black paint. PVC trim (and most plastics) absorb heat from the sun and when a paint that is too dark (manufacturers specify a minimum Light Reflectance Value for any paint applied to their product) is used, it will void the warranty and cause premature failure of the product.

Black would not be my first choice, but I appreciate the investment the business owner is putting back into the downtown. I do wonder how much heat gain the building will see during the summers - hope they have some good air conditioners! I guess they will save on the cooling costs with lower heating requirements during the winters.

Give them credit for staying business - from the keyboard cowboys who don't have the balls to start their own business in NJ. That's all.

Peace out

It's only paint folks. Similar to a sign. The choice of the building or business owner. Just like a personal home, it will one day be sold and a new owner will want to change to their own color scheme.

Can’t people just buy uniforms from Amazon? Probably a better price. Although I’m in the minority here, I think it looks good....

Longliverubytuesdays Longliverubytuesdays ✉

Longlive...

Depends on your employer. 2 of my employers contract with them for uniforms. Which is great because you get fitted and they fit as long as you maintain your weight. Not that easy in some professions.

I have ordered uniforms online from amazon, GALS and a few other online services. They might seem cheap but it depends on the cut and alot of the times you have to get them taken in or send them back.

I rather go there and try them on. Also not every manufacturer cuts the same. I worked in textiles in high school doing dye cutting and depending on where in the stack will determine size.

Lastly, they are great people. I don't care if i pay more there. They provide a great service.

Can't help but think....stripper joint. Not a fan of the colors and lighting. To each his own.

I went by today and saw the front is back in primer. Soon to be all black again I gather.

I have been thinking about the color scheme some more and thought perhaps they were attempting to highlight the window displays by drawing the eye to the windows by having a monochromatic facade, in this case black. However that can't be the case since the windows there have many mullions creating a cottage look and feel. Worse possible choice for a display window obviously. Cute and appropriate for a store front on our Main street for sure, just not practical for a display window at all.

I should add I have actually participated intimately in designing two store fronts in NYC and assisted in the color choices for a few more. While it's just an opinion I share it does come with some knowledge in the field. The concept one relies on for this type of thing is called the Gruen technique or Gruen effect. It's all about creating an appealing store front to draw folks in. Once the consumer is inside they are encouraged into greater spending by use of design and store layout.

Again, it's nice to see a long time business ready to reopen in their reconditioned space.

I love the way it looks so far. Hopefully more stores get a make over

Damn, some of you people are harsh. I really like Hackettstown. It's come a long way in the past 10 years, and people *do* come from out of town to enjoy the food and the beer and the shopping here. It wasn't like that when I was growing up. These days you might even encounter neighbors and visitors who aren't white, or who aren't Republicans! Which is apparently a shock to folks here on H'town Life who are upset that nonwhite people have the nerve to cross the street, but I for one enjoy the diversity.

I'm so happy that B&R is back in their old address, and the building looks classy. There's still work to be done, but Main Street doesn't look half bad, and the community events are getting better every year.

I like the bold yet simplistic choice. This all started mostly because people felt the loss of the mural on the side. I thought it was nice but I actually prefer the new style. I think this might give the bid or a storefront with the available space a good idea. If you have the space hold a contest for artist and basic design to be put in there to represent hackettstown. Just an idea.

The trim and signage help a lot; You changed my mind and I like it. Plus, to enter a new business, they just need to replace the & with an A and they can make some real money ;-)

Marley’s new paint job jumps at you and as I enter my twilight years; I just love a painted lady (as we used to call those wacky old wooden houses with those great trim treatments and lots of colors).

Or Tracey’s for a more conservative, yet glowing paint job. And you just gotta love the mail slot. Same with Jay’s TOPO and Pandan.

Even the tex mex, or is it deli?, across from rockaway sales got a facelift.

So thank you B&R for your creative simplicity basic black; every town should have a little black shop :-). Goes with everything. Changed my mind, I like it.
