Alphabet Song Title Train Game
I like the original song game on HackettstownLife but I am going to start a new game.
This one has the songs posted in alphabetical order. First song which I will post , starts with the letter "A" then somebody will post a song starting with "B" , next song will start with "C"
but you all know your alphabet. I think this game will allow us to post some songs that maybe couldn't be used on the other game.
~*~ video links optional ~*~ but I sure like it when there is a link.
Lets get the game started with a song I'm humming and singing to myself most of this day. In fact i will post three versions of it. The Replacements did it first.

"Quite Like You" by Nantucket
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Jg7e42n83wQ
A relatively recent "live" version
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n5cbvyrfexM
These guys were from NC and were the hot" live" band when I was in High School in Coastal NC. They played the beach clubs up and down the coast and was even one of the two bands that played for my prom. They later were signed by epic records and put out a few LP's. They still play club dates too.
The funny thing was when I mentioned the band to my boss who has lived in NNJ for many years, he showed up with one of their records the next day. Apparently, they weren't just known on the southern coast.
Railroad Man - Blackfoot

Stand by Me- Ben E. King
One of my favorite songs AND movies
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Vbg7YoXiKn0
When the night has come, and the land is dark
And the moon is the only light we'll see
No, I won't be afraid, oh, I won't be afraid
Just as long as you stand, stand by me
So darlin', darlin' stand by me
Oh stand by me
Oh stand, stand by me, stand by me
If the sky that we look upon should tumble and fall
Or the mountain should crumble to the sea
I won't cry, I won't cry, no, I won't shed a tear
Just as long as you stand, stand by me
And darlin', darlin' stand by me
Oh stand by me
Whoa stand now, stand by me, stand by me

Beautiful Mysterious --by-- Tribal seeds
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BkiYSK-0olk
Mysteriously, beautifully
Saw you and your friends standing across from me
Capture of your glimpse, actions nervously
Blessing bloom all around you, hear I sing
Your humble beauty and your feminine drive I mon crazy
Even when I see you from afar, still look pretty
This is the natural attraction from a male to a darling
Not of root from the birds and the bees, but from Adam and Eve
Ms. Beautiful Mysterious
Causing InI to go delirious
Unknown beautiful mysterious
Look at InI manners, see how they suffer
Burn lust-looking
Never gonna see you as a tool
Treat you with raspect, I am not a fool
Everyday, go home forgetting your look
Next day glance upon your face dejavu
Lyrics www.allthelyrics.com/lyrics/tribal_seeds/
This is not a joke, what I'm telling you is true
Yet I'm not in love, I don't care who
Still your body is slender, body so fair
Love how the sunshine reflect off your hair
If there is any answer, please tell me where
To my question, never yet shared
Try to keep my strength, but you are my weakness
Yet when I pass upon and by you, I put up no interest, you are my weakness
Ms. Beautiful Mysterious
Causing InI to go delirious
Unknown beautiful mysterious
Look at InI manners, see how they suffer

So she took her love
For to gaze awhile

In his arms she fell as her hair came down
Among the fields of gold
Will you stay with me, will you be my love
Among the fields of barley
We'll forget the sun in his jealous sky
As we lie in the fields of gold
See the west wind move like a lover so
Upon the fields of barley
Feel her body rise when you kiss her mouth
Among the fields of gold
I never made promises lightly
And there have been some that I've broken
But I swear in the days still left
We'll walk in the fields of gold
We'll walk in the fields of gold

The stars lean down to kiss you
And I lie awake and miss you
Pour me a heavy dose of atmosphere
'Cause I'll doze off safe and soundly
But I'll miss your arms around me
I'd send a postcard to you, dear
'Cause I wish you were here
I'll watch the night turn light-blue
But it's not the same without you
Because it takes two to whisper quietly
The silence isn't so bad
'Til I look at my hands and feel sad
'Cause the spaces between my fingers
Are right where yours fit perfectly

Zipper Job- ZZ Top
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lGeZA7vGkAM
He/she wanna be
Body and soul just don't agree
There's an answer, gotta go for a
Tijuana tuck-n-roll
He/she just got a zipper job
A zipper job
It ain't nothin', it ain't no thing
It's just changin' face of yin and yang
Ain't no callin' for alarm
It's just a different kind of charm
It's alright, on one condition
Certainly before transition
No one even need a clue
Just pull the old switch-a-roo
He/she done got a brand-new glistening zipper job
Oh yes, a zipper job
Flip, strip, zip, trip a talon-42
Timing is everything
For kings, queens, and in-betweens
It's a question of what to do
'Cos what is what and who is who?
He/she just got a zipper job
An everlasting zipper job

Sorry, but a link MUST be posted. That's the rule...and I'm always happy to make the rules. :)

No, I'm NOT posting the version that most people know - if you want to see that one, look it up yourself LOL;-) Sorry, not a big DLR fan here, too much ego for the talent IMHO.
besides PhilD , it was David Lee Roth solo for that song
thanks for some good renditions !!
Thanks for that CBGB! A great version, but then, considering who are playing... how could it be anything but!
You're right, I started to write "by ... NO, NOT Van Halen's David Lee Roth,"
but lost him when I edited later, that's why I only had his initials later. I really have to check after editing to see if I need to edit again.
DLR had some good points, but they're still lost in his ego (to me anyway). I know the debate still rages all over youtube and they call the Sammy version "Van Hagar", but DLR always said the band would be nothing without him, whereas he was pretty much nothing without the band. Obviously my own opinion. There are those that idolize him and that's fine for them, just not me.;-)

Wild Angel - back in the mid 80's, a co-worker's younger brother was playing this on a boombox by the front of Rickel where I worked. When I told him the lyrics sounded familiar he told me what song it was. I laughed and asked him if he had any idea how old the lyrics where.
After he said "Huh?" and I explained that it was from the gothic peom of the same name by Samuel Taylor Coleridge and that I'd read the story when I was in High School. It gave him a bit more appreciation for the origin of the song and of High School. School seemed a bit more "cool" after that.
"S-Scape" by Synergy, aka Larry Fast, a pioneer of full electronic music and Jersey Guy.

Unfortunately, I had to post the link above, which is to the whole album because the original link: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-E8BTkjxHqg&feature=related
had no sound.
It's the first 5:48 track. To me, the cool really kicks in at about 4:00, but that's just my own taste.
Larry's theme element always was "And nobody played guitar" until a number of albums later when he wrote: "And finally a guitar, well sorta" (or something close), because he used one of the newer (at the time) electronic guitar synthesizers.

According to YOU....I'm stupid, I'm useless
I can't do anything right
According to you I'm difficult, hard to please
Forever changing my mind
I'm a mess in a dress, can't show up on time
Even if it would save my life
According to you, according to you
But according to HIM....I'm beautiful, incredible
He can't get me out of his head
According to him I'm funny, irresistible
Everything he ever wanted
Everything is opposite, I don't feel like stopping it
So baby tell me what I got to lose
He's into me for everything I'm not
According to you

NJ Redbank Rock!!
Night Train - Guns-n-Roses
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Qyf8oRF6Trg
GC - actually, Dakota Fanning and Kristen Stewart brought back the names Cherie Currie and Joan Jett not that long ago . . . 'course, Lita Ford was a completely minor character in that movie.
Oath - Mercyful Fate
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r92aLmWazuM
Aquarius - If you didn't notice actually I did "N". ;-) How many people actually saw that movie? Does the sum total of "four" constitute "brought back"? ;-) Personally Dakota might have been made up to look like Currie, but she's no "Cherry Bomb". Even if Stewart was fine as Jett, Dakota is more Jett than Currie. At the time, I don't think Jett could play a note and Currie's talent's let's face it were more visual than auditory. The rest came later. But Ford was different. She had talent from the start, as did Sandy West. The others came later, if that.
D'oh! Obviously my alphabetical skills are hurting today. I almost posted "M" - I thought I saved myself embarrassment my posting "N". What can I say, Sunday's my day off.
OK - I've double checked we are definitely up to "P" (teehee, I had to edit this b/c I posted O again! Time to give it up!)
Peace Sells - Megadeth
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=umeZtszNShk
GC - I completely agree about Lita Ford and Sandy West. They were the only ones that could actually play. I have always thought Lita Ford was very underrated. And while maybe four people saw the movie The Runaways, there was one scene that everyone was talking about, involving Jett & Currie . . .
"Rockin' The Bronx" by Black 47
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=q-hnZFIWHps
Apparently both I and a friend comprise half of those who saw "The Runaways". I remember a friend had a Lita Ford poster as well as a Runaways poster when we were in college and I remember enjoying their songs as well as Lita Ford's when she struck out on her own as a heavier solo metal act. I've always enjoyed Joan's songs and think that Kristen Stewart did a good job of playing her.
If you look at some of the clips of Joan at a younger age Kristen looks almost uncannily like her and apparently Joan almost felt as though she was almost her doppelganger LOL:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AJrl69dJtng&feature=related
Check out this interview on Oprah and her surprising duet partner:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=APmE4AulR4A
While she started out as perhaps one of the less experienced ones in the group, she did much to advance women's role in rock. Once her duet partner loses a bit more of that twang, she could become another major force in "grown up" rock & roll.
Eerily, it seems as though Joan's voice these days is sounding more like another one of my harder rock / metal female idols Wendy O. Williams. Rock on ladies!
P.S. A cool movie to watch is "Light of Day" with Joan Jett and Michael J. Fox as brother and sister trying to make it in the rock & roll world. http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0093415/ she also had a supporting role on a Highlander episode.

I love this thread . . . where else would I see the names Wendy O. Williams (RIP) & Cherie Currie. They brings so much back and make me so happy. :-)
Phil - I agree, Joan Jett is sounding more and more like Wendy O. as she gets older. I remember "Light of Day" but all I could think was Michael J. Fox was so badly miscast . . . did love Joan in that, though.

"X-hale" by Pupkulies & Rebecca
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3mDMxBe4UDY
I love her accent;-)
blackcat - I support female musicians! I have to admit that for as much fun as Dan Akroyd made fun of Tom Snyder and his late nght TV show NOBODY out there other than the inimitable Tom S. had the cojones to have Wendy O. & the Plasmatics on his TV show - and more than once too. Chainsawing a guitar and destroying a car in his studio which got him hella heat, but he was the guy on the cutting edge as far as I was concerned (RIP Tom)!
I always enjoy alternative versions of the "normal" or "classic" versions of songs, as long as they're well done! Seeing Joan Jett for free - cool! I always had a bit of a crush on her:-) Since you know who her duet partner is by now - I have to give kudos to Miley for stepping out. People don't seem to realize that artists must grow and sometimes change. They may lose some fans who feel that they have to stay in a particular groove. Look at Metallica - for some anything after the "Black" album is discounted while for others it was the "Load" and "Reload" albums that did them in.
I don't stay stuck in a "you have to fit my mentality of what you are and enjoy watching and listening to the new ground some artists explore. I loved the "Whiskey In A Jar" cover by Metallica! Not their standard fare, but then later heard a traditional version of it at the Bonnie Brae Scottish Games and was even more impressed by what they'd done.
Aquarius Oddly enough, Michael J. Fox received his first guitar at 8 (6 years earlier than Joan did at 14) and they both were self-taught. I'd heard he had a band in Canada also. He was probably at the time a better guitarist than actor since he started acting at 15 (7 years later) - funny that the role he won at 15 was that of a 10 year old! Thankfully while his first opportunity for Back to The Future ended due to other obligations - Eric Stoltz didn't work out after all the filming they did and they were lucky enough then to get Mike back having worked out the scheduling conflicts. At least they didn't have to give him guitar lessons for the movie!

Suzi Q is a bit ironic on Runaways Radio given years ago they were at each others throats. As far as Wendy O. goes you could have used her at "D" - what a manic crazy version of Dream Lover the Plasmatics did. I still have the "New Hope For The Wretched" album. Is Joan sounding like Wendy? Three packs a day would do that to anyone.
And the Ian Gillan disaster? Did we have to go there? I have every single solo including some very good ones with Bernie Torme. But no business mixing with Tony and Geezer. The only good thing that came out of that was is threw all the Deep Purple back together. They put out two additional pretty good albums.

A 14:46 minute instrumental masterpiece from underrated guitarist Terry Kath (RIP) and my all time favorite CTA song.
"Nuages" by Django Reinhardt

There's a few seconds of "intro" that's not in the song...
Also "Nuages" by King Crimson

DB, it's too bad the city of Chicago sued them so they had to change the name, just like "Nantucket Sleighride" became the group "Nantucket".
Thanks for the "Magic" CBGB, truly a fun and rememborable song!
Only the lonely.....................Roy Orbison

Phil D. - I know. I never liked them after the first album anyway. They stiflled Terry from being creative after that album. I always felt Terry should have left them and went on his own.
"Rage of Poseidon" by Apocalyptica
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AYa1OlWH_Zo&feature=fvst
The early soft intro makes you feel all warm and fuzzy until cello madness ensues;-)
Tee Hee, those crazy Finns!
DB I know what you mean. That first album was almost Hendrix-like in its guitar wizardry! While I do like much of their later sound also (on its own merits), I don't think anything really could touch that first album and they could have used a number of other guitarists to build the later sound, whereas TK could have formed a band of his own and who knows what kind of creative music we could have heard.
Must have been both a contractual thing, as well as a "sticking with his friends" thing I guess. Did anyone ever interview him and ask that question?

Ole TJ is never afraid to take on a new challenge! He takes a song and makes it his own. My sister thought I was joking when I told her to watch a program on PBS about TJ and his preparation for a concert at Cardiff Castle. That is, until she watched it and realized he wasn't just a caricature, but a serious artist who was determined to give his audience their money's worth and more!
Even at almost age 72 (this June), he still has immense voice control as compared to many artists who are sad shells of their former selves. You GO Tom!

Don't forget folks, that Jesus was a Jew celebrating the Passover Seder aka "Last Supper" with His Disciples. I'm glad that many churches got over their hatred of Judaism for blaming His death on them. What was done was what was meant to be (as prophesied - don't forget). End of Easter/Passover message of peace from me... .

Supposedly the original name of the song was "In The Garden of Eden", but they arrived at the studio a bit "high" shall we say and history got one of the strangest full album side songs ever.
The version I posted is apparently an original video of the group too! Check out the 3D sound of the drums in your headphones on the solo that starts around 7 minutes into the song too!

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=w0b70mk4Op8
Sorry to post extra links, but she was quite a talent imho. A gorgeous lady who died far too young at 32.
Plus I figured someone needs to make up for Andy's lack of links. I know CBGB states that you don't have to post links, but we DO all like them. I especially like alternate versions linked too if someone feels amenable to doing that.
Come on guys, the game's not as much fun without everyone putting in a little effort in posting links to help bring others attention to the songs we remember and like.

Andy, I wasn't asking you to "retire" from the game, just to put a bit more effort into it. You're almost the only one who never put up any links for others to enjoy.
If you still can't cut & paste the link: as I see you mentioned earlier. Click the left mouse button and drag over the youtube address until it's all highlighted. Then right click on the highlighted section, follow down the box and left click on "copy". Then left click in the message box here. When the cursor blinks, right click, follow down the box, then left click on "paste" - viola.
If you're doing it from something with a touchpad only - sorry, but someone else needs to hit you up with guidance.

Congrats Andy - great work. I'm not that far behind you in age - never meant hopeless nor lazy, but yeah, I'll admit I was wondering why the link cabinet was looking too bare for that long. That's why I rechecked and offered the advice - just in case you were having some difficulties. Didn't want the great songs you were mentioning to go without linkage. As CBGB says "links are fun"! Enjoy!

I haven't thought of this song in years and then I read in today's Ledger that Mike Kelly, former frontman of the Duprees, legendary Jersey City doo-wop group, died on Tuesday. R.I.P. Mike Kelly.
I heard them interviewed on a radio station in South Jersey not very long ago. What a shock.

http://youtu.be/2sVWOrhxpZk
How come jerks don't know they're jerks
(I don't know)
So next time someone makes you feel little
Just sing this song inside your head
And like a great big cartoon bubble
These lovely words will dance above their head
How I've waited for today
When I could finally say
You jerk
You jerk
You are such a jerk
There are other words
But they just don't work
I hope you like this one.
