Tiger Fencers Live and Learn by the Sword

High school fencers are going places; namely, Div. I colleges.

Maryanne, Melissa and Sara Forsythe all received scholarships to fence on Temple University's Division I team. Their younger sister Christine could follow in their footsteps. The high school junior finished in 11th place in Saturday's state fencing championship for epee.

Stories like the Forsythe sisters aren't rare for the Hackettstown fencing team, where members regularly succeed at the high school and college levels.

In addition to Christine Forsythe, two other team members made the individual state championships, with senior Eric Gurnowski finishing first overall on Saturday in epee. The boys epee team placed second in the state team championship last week. Seven seniors are expected to attend Division I schools next year.
