Officials ban tattoo, other businesses

Town council on Monday unanimously passed an ordinance banning tattoo shops, massage parlors and several other businesses on Main Street over the protests of some business owners.

First Place Tattoos owner Mike Holub and Therapeutic Massage owner Kathy Vintaloro said they did not like how the ordinance lumped them with drug paraphernalia shops and escort services, two other businesses banned in the ordinance council passed Monday.

"That puts us into that seedy category, and I don't think I belong there," said Vintaloro, who has run her business in town for 18 years.

Holub, who has owned his business for 11 years, said he doesn't have a problem with the ordinance but with how it's been presented. Town officials say the ordinance is needed because the market is not bringing the right kind of stores to Main Street. The ordinance also prohibits pawnshops, dance halls and nail salons from opening on the street without obtaining zoning board approval.
