Fitting the Pieces Together: The Puzzles of Genealogy

January 27, 2008 at 9:20 pm

Taking a walk through the Old Burial Ground, or Union Cemetery is like taking a genealogical walk back in time. While some of the headstones are old and weathered, many are still legible, and bear the names of the members of many of Hackettstown's ancestral families - names like Valentine, Ayers, Little, Titus and Osmun.

When you see these names, you start to wonder, what were their lives like? Where did they live? What did they look like? How are they related?

Some say that there are two key components to genealogical research - patience and luck. However, the smallest clue can sometimes lead to the biggest discovery!

Join the Hackettstown Historical Society on Thursday, February 7, 2008 as we offer tips and tools to help you research your family tree and talk about some interesting discoveries made when investigating the Osmuns, one of Hackettstown's ancestral families.

Meetings begin at 7:30 and are held in the conference room at the Hackettstown Regional Medical Center (enter through the front door and turn left). All are invited to attend.
