Name That Rock Song
Hi, with all the great artists passing away lately, I thought it might be a nice tribute to have a game where we guess what a lyric passage matches what rock song.
Ok see below and let's rock :)
Stevie “guitar” Miller. One of my first concerts charting my path to rock and ruin.....
“Cologne she wears. Silver and Americard. She’ll drive a Beetle car. And beat you down at cool Canasta”
Artist is:
Steve Miller Band - Living in the USA
"I can tell the queen of diamonds by the way she shines"
Artist is ______________________ (?)
AJMS
In your first post you say "guess what a lyric passage matches what rock song", but in your 2nd post you wrote "Artist is __________________(?)". So should we do both or only the artist or just the song, or doesn't it matter as long as we just get one?
In the first one I think it's "someone get me a cheeseburger", btw, but I'm not positive and that's in "Livin' in the U.S.A." by the Steve Miller Band.
BTW, Just "A Cheeseburger" is also referenced in The Tube's song "What Do You Want From Life"
I see JrzyGirl88 posted while I was thinking and typing (slowly, lol).
My answer to that one is "Loser" by the Greatful Dead
New one
"I've got a Maserati GT with snakeskin upholstery..."
Song AND artist if you please'''
"Everybody Wants Some", by Van Halen
Still no guesses on
"I've got a Maserati GT with snakeskin upholstery..."?
Song AND artist please'''
Exsqueeze me......mine was up first!!! Need more clues? Hard to believe given google.....or should we be sports and pledge to not google?
Stranger Danger Dave Bowie
Lady Grinning Soul ? Guess is correct?
And yes Phil D , name of song, + artist is an extra rock star award (lol)

You may be on delay, due to a need for moderator approval (I have no idea, maybe I am) but it didn't appear to me at the time, even when I posted my answer and saw that Jerseygirl had posted something in the interim. That's the only problem with these type of games. I'm guessing that once your post was approved then it showed up in its original order, along with "Shoes" post. When I put my second post up, you'rs still wasn't yet up.
Black Crowes- She Talks To Angles. One of my favorite bands. The drummer just put out a tell-all biography of the band... fantastic.
Phil D, it's Gary Moore. "Ain't Got You " for your suggestion :)
Next:
"Winter Nights. we sang in tune
Played inside the months of moon"
Artist and song title, please: ________________________(?)
JR, I dont know if you've been keeping up with them over the years. I certainly haven't had time to spend worrying about bands like I did in my youth... but Chris Robinson was on the Stern show recently. Apparently, he and his brother have reconciled and they're doing a big tour this year for the 30th anniversary of the release of Shake Your Moneymaker.
oooooh. thanks for the update on BC's ianimal.
plz regard my song suggestion and respond. lol
Technically, she talks to "angels"; only excessively drunk pool shooters talk to angles (-;
I've got one...
a broken nose and a broken heart; an empty bottle of gin
Ian,
That tour isn't the Black Crowes. It's just the brothers with a hired band. They destroyed the band years ago. Chris and Rich Robinson both have mental issues, imo... and both are huge egotistical a-holes. I still love their music, but I'm not interested in a "reunion" tour that only reunites the 2 a-holes, and leaves the rest of the band out. Let's see how long it lasts... if the 2 brothers manage to stay together longer than 1 tour cycle, it'll just prove that absolute ownership and control (their desire for it) is what destroyed that (once) amazing band.
These days, I'm on to Blackberry Smoke. Sort of a Lynyrd Skynrd / Black Crowes hybrid. Fantastic band, great songs.
"barefoot girl sittin' on the hood of a Dodge
drinking warm beer in the soft summer rain"
Jungleland
Song by Bruce Springsteen
"But promises, you know what they're for
It sounds so convincing, but you heard it before"
“Sickness will surely take the mind
Where minds can't usually go.”
PS...no cheating, you guys! Close that search window! LOL:)
Amazing Journey- The Who from “Tommy”
No searching needed here. The 2 posts were from some of my absolute favorite bands:)
since nobody posted a new lyric I will repost mine
Love is in the water, love is in the air
Collective Soul- "Shine"
PS I always used to think this song was called "help" until a few years ago!
"you welcome me with open arms and open legs" .......
I know only fools have needs but this one never begs
....... :-).
You Better You Bet- The Who
“And now your life’s no longer empty.
Surely heaven waits for you”

Next (this might be a hard one)-
The streets were lined for the wedding parade
The queen wore the white gloves, the county of song
The black-covered caisson her horses had drawn
Protected her king from the sun rays of dawn
They married for peace and were gone
Did you see them, did you see them?
Did you see them in the river?
Won't you take me back to school
I need to learn the golden rule
Won't you lay it on the line
I need to hear it one more time
Where do you get
Those blue, blue jeans
Faded, patched secret so tight?
Where do you get
That walk oh so lean?
Your shoes and your shirt's all just right
Andy, great hit on the Broken Arrow song!
Reach out your hand if your cup be empty
If your cup is full may it be again
Let it be known there is a fountain
That was not made by the hands of men
Your groove, I do deeply dig
No walls, only the bridge, my supper dish
My succotash wish
.....Sing it baby! LoL
Deee-Lite- Groove is in the Heart
"You know I'm a dreamer
But my heart's of gold
I had to run away high
So I wouldn't come home low"
Tonight Motley Crue
She keeps a lock of hair in her pocket.
She wears a cross around her neck.
Yes the hair is from a little boy,
And the cross from someone she has not met, well, not yet
She Talks to Angels- Black Crowes.
When I was small I used to stand
With my hand on my heart
And I would sing to you
You were my son and my lover
My father and my brother
I believed in you
It was so easy then
It was so easy then
But where are you now
It seems like you can't hear me anymore
Maybe you're just getting too old.
But do you remember...201 years ago....... (Con't)......... :-)
Let's play the game right please. give the right answer not just blindly google it.
"You know I'm a dreamer
But my heart's of gold
I had to run away high
So I wouldn't come home low"
Home Sweet Home by Motley Crue
My God, get a life! I couldn't remember how to spell the Crue part... Then thought OMG I got the name wrong? And went with what I saw. Go file the police report officer, ya got my confession.
The way she talks about someone else
That she don't even know herself
She's the sickest thing in this world
Well, look at that stupid girl
Correction: It's not on Flowers, only Aftermath. a lot of crossover on the British and American versions of the stones albums-gets a little hard to remember!
Whatever makes you happy
Whatever you want
You're so *7"(8; special

Sheriff John Brown always hated me

Actually- Bob Marley
I used to be a rolling stone you know
If a cause was right
I'd leave to find the answer on the road
I used to be a heart beating for someone
But the times have changed
The less I say the more my work gets done
Next
It's a sin that somehow
light is changing to shadow
and casting it's shroud
over all we have known
unaware how the ranks have grown
driven on by a heart of stone
we could find that we're all alone
in the dream of the proud
On the wings of the night
as the daytime is stirring
where the speechless unite
in a silent accord
using words you will find are strange
and mesmerized as they light the flame
feel the new wind of change
on the wings of the night
The world was on fire and no one could save me but you
It's strange what desire will make foolish people do
I'd never dreamed that I'd meet somebody like you
Baby, I'm hot just like an oven
I need some lovin'
And baby, I can't hold it much longer
It's getting stronger and stronger
The bugle sounds, the charge begins
But on this battlefield no one wins
The smell of acrid smoke and horses' breath
As you plunge on into certain death
Its the Trooper

You took what you were handed and left behind what was asked
But what they asked baby wasn't right

These days you don't wait on Romeo's
You wait on that welfare check…
AJMS That would be Point Blank by Bruce(no last name needed!) You and I seem to have a lot of the same tastes in music. I just got back from Highland Park-picked up about 25 lp's from a guy on craigslist including Darkness on the Edge of Town. Used to have about 400 lp's-all were ruined during hurricane Irene. Trying to replace some of them at least.
You know I'm born to lose, and gambling's for fools
But that's the way I like it baby

AJMS , IDK unless I google the lyrics
"If that's your best, your best won't do"
anybody know that one?
We’re Not Gonna Take It- Twisted Sister.
Took me awhile- it was on the tip of my tongue and I could hear Dee singing it....
One line- 2 different artists/songs:
“There are many here among us who feel that life is a joke”
All Along the Watchtower... Bob Dylan/Jimi Hendrix
The lyric is actually "life is BUT a joke", though...
He said, "Call the doctor
I think I'm gonna crash"
"The doctor say he's coming but you gotta pay in cash"
first thought was Nazareth Whiskey Drinking Woman but after singing it a bit
Judas Priest

I started throwin' bass, she started throwin' back mid-range
But when I sprung the question, she acted kind of strange
Then when I asked, "Do ya have a man?", she tried to pretend
She said: "No, I don't, I only have a friend"
Come on!
I'm not even goin' for it, this is what I'm goin' sing
Just a Friend- Biz Markie
"B-B-B-baby baby baby why you wan' treat me this way

Mine was - “The Jam” - “A Town Called Malice”

Little darling, it's been a long cold lonely winter
Little darling, it feels like years since it's been here
Scarecrow on a wooden cross, blackbird in the barn

When I was five I walked the fence while grandpa held my hand

Dio - Last In Line
Don't drink, don't smoke, what do you do?
Don't drink, don't smoke, what do you do?
Subtle innuendos follow
There must be something inside
I see him standing silhouetted
In the lamp-light
I cross the street
And I quicken my pace
He cups his hands and he
Lights a cigarette
I find myself in the bones of his face
The Pretenders - Night In My Veins
The hands that you shake
Can never create
The wings that you need when you want to fly
I keep singing this lyric today
Someday we'll look back on this and it will all seem funny
Well the Door is always open,
And the lights on in the Hall,
And you know that I'll be waiting,
When you finally come to call
I could shake my tiny fist
And swear I wasn't wrong
But what's the sense in arguing
When you're all alone?
Sure as you can't steer a train
You can't change your fate
And when she told me off that day
I knew I'd lost my home
