Banning Inappropriate Xmas Songs
I’ve been hearing a lot of talk about banning classic Christmas songs like Baby it’s Cold Outside, Santa Baby, I Saw Mommy Kissing Santa Claus, and Rudolph. What does our community think about that?
I know the "Baby It's Cold Outside" is a real ban/protest. I think the others are a joke mocking this (at least I hope) as below.
1. I Saw Mommy Kissing Santa Claus: subjecting minors to softcore porn
2. The Christmas Song: Open fire? Pollution. Folks dressed up like Eskimos? Cultural appropriation
3. Holly Jolly Christmas: Kiss her once for me? Unwanted advances
4. White Christmas? Racist
5. Santa Claus is Coming to Town: Sees you when you’re sleeping? Knows when you’re awake? Peeping Tom stalker
6. Most Wonderful Time of the Year: Everyone telling you be of good cheer? Forced to hide depression
7. Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer: Bullying
8. It’s Beginning to Look a Lot Like Christmas: Forced gender-specific gifts: dolls for Janice and Jen and boots and pistols (GUNS!) for Barney and Ben
9. Santa Baby: Gold digger, blackmail
10. Frosty the Snowman: Sexist; not a snow woman
11. Do You Hear What I Hear: blatant disregard for the Deaf & hard of hearing folks
12. Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas: Make the yuletide GAY? Wow, just wow
13. Jingle Bell Rock: Giddy up jingle horse, pick up your feet: animal abuse
14. Mistletoe and Holly: Overeating, folks stealing a kiss or two? How did this song ever see the light of day?
15. Winter Wonderland: Parson Brown demanding they get married…forced partnership
16. I'll Be Home For Christmas: Not if you are homeless. That's just Insensitive
17. Grandma got ran over by a reindeer: Homicide. Extremely violent and promotes alcoholism.”
I really have to wonder how people even manage to get out of bed in the mornings, with the amount of irrational stupidity out there.
ban them all, this is the only effing xmas song needed imo
feel free to disagree or agree or not give a eff
careful with that click eugene
How about we just ban the lame-o's that want to ban classic songs... Look at all the rap songs that glorify sex and violence and they're worried about 70 year old songs that are harmless....
Totally crazy here is something you don't like it change the station and don't listen my kidspersonall like them especially the one by weird al the night Santa went crazy and made raindere sausage. Lol
Totally agree Jenny. More importantly, I wish the stupid people who are so sensitive and offended by nothing would stay in bed if the world is so scary for them. Or just get help and grow up.
I think our society is getting worse by the minute! We should be focusing on how we can get not only our beautiful Nation better but the overall earth itself! We focus on anger, violence and everything else in between as long as it is against something. These songs makes our holiday season much more happier so we should leave them alone! Let it be happy and festive!
Sorry I just feel some folks are focusing more on negative stuff. Before you know it Holiday season will be boring!!!
I will be blasting "Baby it's cold outside" up and down the streets everywhere with my windows down......you snowflakes take cover.
Banning is wrong. Nobody should have the right to ban anything simply because they find it objectionable. They can turn the dial. However, ask yourself why you think a song about an unmarried couple fornicating (and with hints about a spiked drink to boot) has anything to do with Christmas? Do you really think Jesus thinks it’s an appropriate song to celebrate his birth and ultimate sacrifice?
Call it a winter song. There’s nothing Christmas or Christian about it.
How about this one. I guess the C word is okay if women are singing it.
The title of this thread should be banning Xmas songs!! Not banning inappropriate Xmas songs
The #MeToo movement- amusing when you realize a large number of people are old enough to still call # the pound sign.
"Just for the record ... Jesus was born in March. The whole thing is a farce."
The WHEN is a minor detail; the THAT (He was) is what's important. :)
BTW...watch the original video from Neptune's Daughter (who knew Ricardo Montalban could sing?)...that "harassment" goes both ways.
Praise the baby "That" hallelujah Amen while listening to "Baby it's cold outside"...........
Jenny, matters not the exact date, what matters is that it is recognized and celebrated for the true gift that it is.
Sing it loud, it's Christmas
how about Sleigh Ride? To some people the holidays are a depressing time of year. do they need lyrics like these?
There's a happy feeling nothing in the world can buy
When they pass around the coffee and the pumpkin pie
It'll nearly be like a picture print by Currier and Ives
These wonderful things are the things we remember all through our lives
I say NO! ban the damn song it's too depressing.
This old Christmas song might be a little too violent .
Ever since Grandma Got Run Over by a Reindeer came out, violence against female senior citizens by ungulates has risen steadily every winter. It's time we shine a light on this little-known issue.
Let’s just ban everything except work and taxes and get this liberty idea over with
Never heard that one before. My dictionary grows yet again :-)
But the real tragedy in that song is that they were struggling about whether to return the gifts or not - keep ‘em of course!
Look no further than this communities Terms of Service:
"We may, but have no obligation to, remove content for any reason at any time. This includes, but is not limited to, content that we determine in our sole discretion is unlawful, offensive, threatening, obscene or otherwise objectionable or violates any party's intellectual property."
Lesson: Don't talk about rappers being racist, spreading racism. c:
Jeez just when you thought you’ve heard and seen it all , get a life people , I plan on playing ALL of those songs and baby it’s cold outside is one of my favorites
Let's ban the Banning Dept. for stupidity. An just play the filthy black rap sh*t. That's what we need to brighten up the season.........What a country
"Let’s just ban everything except work and taxes and get this liberty idea over with"
You have no idea how profound that statement is. There are many people who have been working a long time to accomplish exactly that. Death by a thousand cuts.
+1 cowgirl, me too, i will play them all, sing with most of them and enjoy the holiday with no regrets
snowflake lib here thinking this whole thing is pretty stupid - sing on - sing on-
Whether you people think we should ban these “xmas” or “winter” or whatever you want to call them songs....does a radio station have the right to “ban” a song and just not play it because they and/or their audience does not approve?
Think we are up to 9 stations banning, 2 brought it back; another’s voting to the 10th but looks like players beat banners, so 6 more to hear from but seems the public likes tge song and can’t see an issue.
Because there ain’t one.
In related news, all Errol Flynn movies will be burned and anyone saying “in likke Flynn” will be arrested.
Every man has a little Don Juan in him, Don (Errol) just has a little more.
Radio stations can play whatever they want. If you don’t like the station then don’t listen to them.
i love the radio, listen to it often, both am and fm (and sometimes shortwave) , for Christmas, I've always liked this traditional song:
Jesus was born in March because life begins at conception and he was delivered in December.
I am staying with Bob and Doug McKenzie. The "Twelve Days Of Christmas".They do mention beer That might offend some people. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1DTwLqR071M
not sure who wrote this ( i did not) but thought it was appropriate to this converation:
So. It Snowed Last Night...
8:00 am: I made a snowman.
8:10 - A feminist passed by and asked me why I didn't make a snow woman.
8:15 - So, I made a snow woman.
8:17 - My feminist neighbor complained about the snow woman's voluptuous chest saying it objectified snow women everywhere.
8:20 - The gay couple living nearby threw a hissy fit and moaned it could have been two snow men instead.
8:22 - The transgender man..women...person asked why I didn't just make one snow person with detachable parts.
8:25 - The vegans at the end of the lane complained about the carrot nose, as veggies are food and not to decorate snow figures with.
8:28 - I was being called a racist because the snow couple is white.
8:31 - The middle eastern gent across the road demanded the snow woman be covered up .
8:40 - The Police arrived saying someone had been offended.
8:42 - The feminist neighbor complained again that the broomstick of the snow woman needed to be removed because it depicted women in a domestic role.
8:43 - The council equality officer arrived and threatened me with eviction.
8:45 - TV news crew from ABC showed up. I was asked if I know the difference between snowmen and snow-women? I replied "Snowballs" and am now called a sexist.
9:00 - I was on the News as a suspected terrorist, racist, homophobe sensibility offender, bent on stirring up trouble during difficult weather.
9:10 - I was asked if I have any accomplices. My children were taken by social services.
9:29 - Far left protesters offended by everything marched down the street demanding for me to be arrested.
There is no moral to this story. It is what we have become all because of snowflakes.
This one must have been banned.....? .... I haven't heard it in a while.
I mean, you want to talk about sucky song? .... "This is one of them!"
Ban this song. There’s zero cuss words, but you know the rules and so do I
GreyHawk, that’s a pretty good sign of the times. Has Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez commented yet?
not sure about her, JIT, don't give much credence to what she says but it sure is something to have a good laugh over, she could actually be good for the Republican party down the road, but as far as good Christmas songs go , i have always loved this song and here is a good version of it :
All that's missing is the "snowflakes " running to their safe spaces with crayons and hot cocoa.
"Banning" anything using the force of government has not worked out too well.
If I could "just say no" to Xmas, though, I'd do it in a heartbeat.
It has become a holiday of obligation. There is force behind it, much as there is force behind the "wedding" ritual and all of the trimmings. It had damned well better fit the expectations of the squeakiest wheel among your relationships or there will be some degree of hell to pay.
I'm all for trying to make Xmas magic for little kids, especially those that have little and really want something. The Christmaszilla adults out there need to grow up, tone down their insanity and realize that not everyone gives a sh-t about the magical world they ...and the marketers.. have created for themselves.
The Christmas industry has become as sick and perverted as the Bridal industry.
Let the idiots ban whatever they want, I won't be listening anyway.
good point jmonth, totally agree with you so i'm just gonna leave this right here:
There’s a star in the east on Christmas morn.
Rise up, shepherd, and follow.
It will lead to the place where the Christ was born.
Rise up, shepherd, and follow.
rise up, shepherd, and follow.
Follow the star of Bethlehem.
Rise up, shepherd, and follow.
If you take good heed to the angel’s words,
rise up, shepherd, and follow.
You’ll forget your flocks, you’ll forget your herds.
Rise up, shepherd, and follow. [Refrain]
I think it's pretty crazy to ban all that. I am a mother of 2 girls and 2 boys. Things are just going crazy and all this PC stuff is ridiculously being overdone.
I will say that I am confused how those songs are being banned but yet rap music that calls women names, killing and promotes being a gold digger or stripping isn't being banned??
The Rudolph story speaks to discrimination based on color … the red nose was different from the other reindeer … the moral thus is, so obvious that I wonder why I even need to write this, we may miss out on someone's God given talents if we shun them based on their different appearance.
Rudolph rocks, he the man!
"First, you are completely ignoring the fact that the song is 74 years old--when women were ladies and men were gentlemen."
Please, do tell, what are women and men today?
Rudolph … the Jackie Robinson of Christmas :-D
What a joke. So a woman had to say no first and pretend to be against the idea, then pound back a drink before taking her clothes off? How does that make her any more of a lady than a woman who is honest and says yes I would like to have sex with you and doesn’t go through that silly pretense?
Whether or not the woman pretended to be virginal and say no the first time or not, the fact is that the song is about screwing, banging, nailing, or however else you like to say fornication. And I’m pretty sure your preacher and Jesus himself would say that’s not an appropriate subject for a Christmas song.
This can't be anymore ridiculous than it already is. These are innocent songs written in innocent times about fun innocent things.
But all the violent songs promoting violence, rape, murder, hate, that's ok ???
What the heck is going on in this world ??
The rabbit hole went straight on like a tunnel for some way, and then dipped suddenly down.... Down, down, down. Would the fall never come to an end? "I wonder how many miles I've fallen by this time?" she said aloud. "I must be getting somewhere near the centre of the earth."
Because women are fickle. Same reason why if one guy (the one they like) says hi they blush and get all excited, the next guy (the one they don't like) says the same thing, and they are creepy.
No difference in what is said, it's just who said it, and only one gender makes the decision.
So I pose the question again to 4CatMom- what are women and men today? Please tell.
I don't even understand why radio stations play Baby It's Cold Outside … perhaps because it is Dean Martin singing? The song simply leaves me cold (pun intended) and there is nothing Christmas about it. If the guy is being too persistent the girl should simply call the cops, that should end it.
Give me Frosty The Snowman anytime!
^ Now absolutely convinced I accidentally ingested some type of hallucinogenic mushroom with my coffee this morning. ;-P
dodgebaal made some interesting points about women and men, perhaps it could be continued in a separate thread … just a few things I've learned … it is pretty much impossible for a man to be "just friends" with an attractive woman … you may have the most innocent of intentions and your reason for friendship could be common intellectual interests, admiration for the woman's work, etc., do not ever praise a woman for being attractive … just don't do it!
You know what's good about the holidays...hmm nothing. Totally on-board with banning all of them. I have to hear them at work in an endless loop for 9 to 10 hours at least 5 days a week. I dream of smashing the speakers each day
MeH, I'm not on-board with "banning" anything, but I agree with the sentiment.
The western version of Christmas is, judging from historical accounts I've read, a holiday evolved from pagan rituals (co-opted by christian churches for marketing purposes), T'was the night...a story of questionable authorship and the same level of fanaticism that drives political parties, organized religion, professional sports, Bridezillas and blind patriotism.
The mass-mind cannot be changed, it has to evolve.
And we don't even seem to get that right...
The path to fullfillment is to paddle your own canoe. Simple concept, but not easy....
A very funny version of Baby, It's Cold Outside. The Holderness Family has hysterical (and serious) videos and podcasts. Their whole family, including their 2 tween kids get involved.
Ban Alice’s Restaurant Massacree. He uses the word ‘faggots’, someone’s going to be offended by this
That word also comes up in Money For Nothing by Dire Straits,... that little ******* is a millionaire ... but I digress :-(
How about the materialistic Santa Baby (Eartha Kitt, Madonna) … Santa's expected to break the bank because she's sexy?
Just give me a hippopotamus for Christmas, I'll be happy, even though it will have a hard time adjusting to our winter climate (yeesh, so many plain old dumb songs) ...
Can't forget Grandma Got Run Over by a Reindeer. I mean, that song must be promoting driving under the influence!
Alices is a thanksgiving song which I do not think includes that word. Pretty sure.
Now “raper” is in there as in mother-raper and father-raper....
Actually it does SD.
"And if two people do it, in harmony, they may think they're both faggots and
They won't take either of them".
The whole concept of these or other songs being deemed inappropriate is absurd in my opinion. People need to get over it and themselves.
Everyone in this day and age is offended by the littlest thing, it’s absolutely ridiculous and pathetic. It’s an old classic Christmas song, it was completely different back then, the song is innocent. But people with nothing better to do tear and rip anything apart to make it completely different then it once was. America is no longer a strong country, it’s now full of whiny babies who take every little thing to heart and find a way to change the whole explanation of it to fit whatever kind of drama they want it to.
so if baby its cold outside promotes rape.... then frosty the snowman promotes stalking and murder ..rudolph promotes bullying and the 12 days of x-mas promotes greed? what are we becoming? A Society that literally picks apart old traditions and believe
they have an alterior and sinister meaning?.... Can we just let it be ... let our children grow up with the same stars in their eyes about x-mas like we did.... When we were younger did we feel this way about these songs?..nooooo!!!! so why should they get denied the traditions of x-mas past? Bah humbug and shame on all of you who want to have these traditional songs and movies erased!!
Baby It's Cold Outside is a song about FLIRTING. Are we so "MeTooed" that flirting is now taboo.
watch the clip because the song is sung from both the male lead and the female lead. Is it stalking and whatever else is being fed to us about the song when it's the woman playing the lead?
and I have a vision of what happened. a conversation that went like this person 1; do you really believe most Americans are gullible? person 2: Indeed I do, they will believe any nonsense shoveled at them. p1: I don't know, give me a for instance. p2: ok I will go on air, on the internet and any source I can to spread the word that a song like , let's say Baby It's Cold Outside is sexist and promotes bullying and rape.
p1: yeah right, we may be gullible but we're not stupid. p2: a bottle of 18 year Macallan says I'm right.
and now they are laughing at us while sipping some fine Macallan
An appropriate song for the topic, a personal favorite.
Abney Park does Baby It's Cold Outside quite well
***double bonus track***
