Banning Inappropriate Xmas Songs

I’ve been hearing a lot of talk about banning classic Christmas songs like Baby it’s Cold Outside, Santa Baby, I Saw Mommy Kissing Santa Claus, and Rudolph. What does our community think about that?

Common-Sense Common-Sense
Dec '18

I know the "Baby It's Cold Outside" is a real ban/protest. I think the others are a joke mocking this (at least I hope) as below.
1. I Saw Mommy Kissing Santa Claus: subjecting minors to softcore porn

2. The Christmas Song: Open fire? Pollution. Folks dressed up like Eskimos? Cultural appropriation

3. Holly Jolly Christmas: Kiss her once for me? Unwanted advances

4. White Christmas? Racist

5. Santa Claus is Coming to Town: Sees you when you’re sleeping? Knows when you’re awake? Peeping Tom stalker

6. Most Wonderful Time of the Year: Everyone telling you be of good cheer? Forced to hide depression

7. Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer: Bullying

8. It’s Beginning to Look a Lot Like Christmas: Forced gender-specific gifts: dolls for Janice and Jen and boots and pistols (GUNS!) for Barney and Ben

9. Santa Baby: Gold digger, blackmail

10. Frosty the Snowman: Sexist; not a snow woman

11. Do You Hear What I Hear: blatant disregard for the Deaf & hard of hearing folks

12. Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas: Make the yuletide GAY? Wow, just wow

13. Jingle Bell Rock: Giddy up jingle horse, pick up your feet: animal abuse

14. Mistletoe and Holly: Overeating, folks stealing a kiss or two? How did this song ever see the light of day?

15. Winter Wonderland: Parson Brown demanding they get married…forced partnership

16. I'll Be Home For Christmas: Not if you are homeless. That's just Insensitive

17. Grandma got ran over by a reindeer: Homicide. Extremely violent and promotes alcoholism.”

I think our society is getting worse by the minute! We should be focusing on how we can get not only our beautiful Nation better but the overall earth itself! We focus on anger, violence and everything else in between as long as it is against something. These songs makes our holiday season much more happier so we should leave them alone! Let it be happy and festive!

Sorry I just feel some folks are focusing more on negative stuff. Before you know it Holiday season will be boring!!!

Banning is wrong. Nobody should have the right to ban anything simply because they find it objectionable. They can turn the dial. However, ask yourself why you think a song about an unmarried couple fornicating (and with hints about a spiked drink to boot) has anything to do with Christmas? Do you really think Jesus thinks it’s an appropriate song to celebrate his birth and ultimate sacrifice?

Call it a winter song. There’s nothing Christmas or Christian about it.

Whether you people think we should ban these “xmas” or “winter” or whatever you want to call them songs....does a radio station have the right to “ban” a song and just not play it because they and/or their audience does not approve?

Think we are up to 9 stations banning, 2 brought it back; another’s voting to the 10th but looks like players beat banners, so 6 more to hear from but seems the public likes tge song and can’t see an issue.

Re: Banning Inappropriate Xmas Songs

Yea.....

not sure who wrote this ( i did not) but thought it was appropriate to this converation:

So. It Snowed Last Night...

8:00 am: I made a snowman.

8:10 - A feminist passed by and asked me why I didn't make a snow woman.

8:15 - So, I made a snow woman.

8:17 - My feminist neighbor complained about the snow woman's voluptuous chest saying it objectified snow women everywhere.

8:20 - The gay couple living nearby threw a hissy fit and moaned it could have been two snow men instead.

8:22 - The transgender man..women...person asked why I didn't just make one snow person with detachable parts.

8:25 - The vegans at the end of the lane complained about the carrot nose, as veggies are food and not to decorate snow figures with.

8:28 - I was being called a racist because the snow couple is white.

8:31 - The middle eastern gent across the road demanded the snow woman be covered up .

8:40 - The Police arrived saying someone had been offended.

8:42 - The feminist neighbor complained again that the broomstick of the snow woman needed to be removed because it depicted women in a domestic role.

8:43 - The council equality officer arrived and threatened me with eviction.

8:45 - TV news crew from ABC showed up. I was asked if I know the difference between snowmen and snow-women? I replied "Snowballs" and am now called a sexist.

9:00 - I was on the News as a suspected terrorist, racist, homophobe sensibility offender, bent on stirring up trouble during difficult weather.

9:10 - I was asked if I have any accomplices. My children were taken by social services.

9:29 - Far left protesters offended by everything marched down the street demanding for me to be arrested.

Moral:

There is no moral to this story. It is what we have become all because of snowflakes.

Perfect, Greyhawk.

"Banning" anything using the force of government has not worked out too well.

If I could "just say no" to Xmas, though, I'd do it in a heartbeat.

It has become a holiday of obligation. There is force behind it, much as there is force behind the "wedding" ritual and all of the trimmings. It had damned well better fit the expectations of the squeakiest wheel among your relationships or there will be some degree of hell to pay.

I'm all for trying to make Xmas magic for little kids, especially those that have little and really want something. The Christmaszilla adults out there need to grow up, tone down their insanity and realize that not everyone gives a sh-t about the magical world they ...and the marketers.. have created for themselves.

The Christmas industry has become as sick and perverted as the Bridal industry.

Let the idiots ban whatever they want, I won't be listening anyway.

There’s a star in the east on Christmas morn.
Rise up, shepherd, and follow.
It will lead to the place where the Christ was born.
Rise up, shepherd, and follow.

Refrain
Follow, follow;
rise up, shepherd, and follow.
Follow the star of Bethlehem.
Rise up, shepherd, and follow.

If you take good heed to the angel’s words,
rise up, shepherd, and follow.
You’ll forget your flocks, you’ll forget your herds.
Rise up, shepherd, and follow. [Refrain]

The Rudolph story speaks to discrimination based on color … the red nose was different from the other reindeer … the moral thus is, so obvious that I wonder why I even need to write this, we may miss out on someone's God given talents if we shun them based on their different appearance.

What a joke. So a woman had to say no first and pretend to be against the idea, then pound back a drink before taking her clothes off? How does that make her any more of a lady than a woman who is honest and says yes I would like to have sex with you and doesn’t go through that silly pretense?

Whether or not the woman pretended to be virginal and say no the first time or not, the fact is that the song is about screwing, banging, nailing, or however else you like to say fornication. And I’m pretty sure your preacher and Jesus himself would say that’s not an appropriate subject for a Christmas song.

Bible,
Because women are fickle. Same reason why if one guy (the one they like) says hi they blush and get all excited, the next guy (the one they don't like) says the same thing, and they are creepy.

No difference in what is said, it's just who said it, and only one gender makes the decision.

So I pose the question again to 4CatMom- what are women and men today? Please tell.

I don't even understand why radio stations play Baby It's Cold Outside … perhaps because it is Dean Martin singing? The song simply leaves me cold (pun intended) and there is nothing Christmas about it. If the guy is being too persistent the girl should simply call the cops, that should end it.

dodgebaal made some interesting points about women and men, perhaps it could be continued in a separate thread … just a few things I've learned … it is pretty much impossible for a man to be "just friends" with an attractive woman … you may have the most innocent of intentions and your reason for friendship could be common intellectual interests, admiration for the woman's work, etc., do not ever praise a woman for being attractive … just don't do it!

You know what's good about the holidays...hmm nothing. Totally on-board with banning all of them. I have to hear them at work in an endless loop for 9 to 10 hours at least 5 days a week. I dream of smashing the speakers each day

MeH, I'm not on-board with "banning" anything, but I agree with the sentiment.

The western version of Christmas is, judging from historical accounts I've read, a holiday evolved from pagan rituals (co-opted by christian churches for marketing purposes), T'was the night...a story of questionable authorship and the same level of fanaticism that drives political parties, organized religion, professional sports, Bridezillas and blind patriotism.

The mass-mind cannot be changed, it has to evolve.

And we don't even seem to get that right...

The path to fullfillment is to paddle your own canoe. Simple concept, but not easy....

"And if two people do it, in harmony, they may think they're both faggots and

The whole concept of these or other songs being deemed inappropriate is absurd in my opinion. People need to get over it and themselves.

Everyone in this day and age is offended by the littlest thing, it’s absolutely ridiculous and pathetic. It’s an old classic Christmas song, it was completely different back then, the song is innocent. But people with nothing better to do tear and rip anything apart to make it completely different then it once was. America is no longer a strong country, it’s now full of whiny babies who take every little thing to heart and find a way to change the whole explanation of it to fit whatever kind of drama they want it to.
