Current Events Thread

Thought I'd start a new thread to catch some of the recent current events and issues we all face. I'll start off with the discussion about banning the traditional Christmastime song "Baby It's cold Outside". I think this is a great song and those who are saying it's stalker-like or misogynist or predatory are off the mark. Can't we all just enjoy a simple fun tune like this without getting all wrapped up in knots? Do we have to find offense in everything these days?

GreyHawk GreyHawk

So if those songs are offensive it leads me to question 90% of rap songs out there....

What's up with that?

So a song from 1949, when things were very different is not okay, but with the "morals we (apparently) now have "singing" (I personally wouldn't call it that) about murder, rape, hate words, drug use...etc. is perfectly acceptable?

Can I ask how is that not hypocritical?

Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer promotes bullying, Charlie Brown Thanksgiving is racist...never ends these days.

Saw this on FB. LMAO

Since some radio stations have decided to pull “Baby it’s Cold Outside” from their playlists because someone was offended, I feel that these other holiday songs must also be removed as they are offensive as well.

Do so immediately.

1. I Saw Mommy Kissing Santa Claus: subjecting minors to softcore porn
2. The Christmas Song: Open fire? Pollution. Folks dressed up like Eskimos? Cultural appropriation
3. Holly Jolly Christmas: Kiss her once for me? Unwanted advances
4. White Christmas? Racist
5. Santa Claus is Coming to Town: Sees you when you’re sleeping? Knows when you’re awake? Peeping Tom stalker
6. Most Wonderful Time of the Year: Everyone telling you be of good cheer? Forced to hide depression
7. Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer: Bullying
8. It’s Beginning to Look a Lot Like Christmas: Forced gender-specific gifts: dolls for Janice and Jen and boots and pistols (GUNS!) for Barney and Ben
9. Santa Baby: Gold digger, blackmail
10. Frosty the Snowman: Sexist; not a snow woman
11. Do You Hear What I Hear: blatant disregard for the hearing impaired
12. Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas: Make the yuletide GAY? Wow, just wow
13. Jingle Bell Rock: Giddy up jingle horse, pick up your feet: animal abuse
14. Mistletoe and Holly: Overeating, folks stealing a kiss or two? How did this song ever see the light of day?
15. Winter Wonderland: Parson Brown demanding they get married…forced partnership

See how ridiculous everything can be twisted? Everyone gets so offended these days that it is impossible to even communicating anymore. We as a society can’t have any music, interact with others, build anything, believe in anything because someone else will be offended. Just stop the madness.

The sad truth Calico is that some idiots will think you’re serious . I read on NJ . Com that the Princeton choir can’t sing the Disney song “Kiss the Girl” from the Little Mermaid due to its “toxic masculinity “.

What kind of sick and demented mind thinks like this? I worry for my children and generations to follow.

“What kind of sick and demented mind thinks like this? I worry for my children and generations to follow.”

The desire for sameness is what this is. Sorry, but that’s *never* going to happen. Oh, does T Swift have a song lie that? Gonna be banned lol

I think Darrin hit it on the nail.

Rap songs that use racist slurs are o.k. to people if they identify with the singer in a racial or cultural sense. But, it doesn't excuse the fact that those songs that use racial slurs are racist. And, the people singing it are racist. Speaking racist words tends to make you a racist, even if it's a word of your own race.

It's definitely sad. I hate Christmas music, retail for years has ruined that, but to go to this level is absurd. It's complaining to complain. BTW don't bring rap music into it, these same people have given anyone of color, or identity, a free pass to do what they want. I want everyone to be happy too. It seems those that try and start an unnecessary drama just want their mouth heard.

Re: Current Events Thread

It's like this with EVERYTHING these days, even weather reports!!! Everything is turned into something YUUUGE, even before it happens.

Someone smells Russia? "Trump cheated, the Russians hacked the election, Trump's illegitimate, he must be impeached!"

We *might" get snow NEXT weekend (or even 10 days from now)? "We may have a MAJOR Nor'Easter happening this weekend, that could dump up to a foot of snow across the region, and even more farther north"

Franklin has to sit on a deck chair in Happy Thanksgiving Charlie Brown? OBVIOUSLY RACIST.

Oh you voted for Trump? So you're a racist, misogynist, p&*sy-grabbing, rich-white-loving, gun-toting, country bumpkin, bigot.

3 measles cases reported in? OMG!!! It's an epidemic!!! Save your children!!!

You want a wall? So you're a racist who doesn't care about people and you have no compassion.

You own guns? OhMahGaaaah you're one of THOSE people!! You obviously don't care about children being killed!

You're a capitalist? Oh so you're a greedy, people-hating, money-grubbing, evil person who doesn't want everyone to get "their fair share"

Nativity scene? WHAT??? SEPARATION OF CHURCH AND STATE! SEPARATION OF CHURCH AND STATE! IT'S IN THE CONSTITUTION!

Kapernick kneeling? Freedom of speech! The first amendment (conservative speech) being quashed at universities? Silence. Or even worse- RIOTS to make sure the first amendment is quashed, because THE ENDS JUSTIFY THE MEANS.

It really is a mental illness at this point. EVERYTHING must be instantly escalated into high drama, fear-mongering, I'm-right-you're-wrong, No-we-can't-civilly-disagree-because-THE-WORLD-is-at-stake, the country is ending, it's the end of the world, etc etc etc.....

It's very tiring dealing with mental midgets like this. Sheople who LIKE being told what to think, who LIKE not having to critically think for themselves, who like being a "part of the 'in' crowd (or what MSM tells them is the in crowd). Who savor group-think. Who can't handle being disagreed with, because it might make them question their own opinions and WE CAN'T HAVE THAT!!! I CAN'T BE WRONG!!! I CAN'T LEARN ANYTHING, BECAUSE I ALREADY KNOW EVERYTHING.

Some days, I do not recognize my country.

Kung Pao Buckaroo Holiday- by Brad Paisley
(how to be politically correct during the holidays)

How 'bout we sing some holiday songs?
Yeah, hey George, you wanna lead us off?
Yeah, I got one.
Oh Chri-bleep-mas tree oh Chri-bleep-mas tree how lovely are thou branches?
Why am I getting bleeped?
Haven't you heard guys? You can't say Chri-bleep-mas you gotta say Holiday
I can't say Chri-bleep-mas?
No you might offend somebody.
Who is offended by Chri-bleep-mas?
You know you might offend the bleep and the bleep and the atheists.
What?
Time to be politically correct.
I'll lead this off.
On the first day of Chri-bleep-mas my true love said to me?
Jimmy, are you listening?
What?
You can't say Chri-bleep-mas.
Why can't I say Chri-bleep-mas?
I didn't make the rules.
Hey listen guys, it's not that difficult,
all you gotta do is change Chri-bleep-mas to Holiday.
You know, instead of saying white Chri-bleep-mas, you say
I'm dreaming of a whi-bleep Holiday.
Why did I get bleeped?
You've got to say Caucasian.
So I have to sing, I'm dreaming of a Caucasian holiday?
Sure, that won't offend anybody.

Why do these people have to feel that way?
How come they get offended so easily?
I'm just trying to come up with a song here.

We three kings of bleep are bearing gifts we've traveled real far
Sorry boys, you have to say Asia now.
What?
Oh, come on just try.
We three kings of Asia are
That sounds like horse bleep
Oh lord, okay. How 'bout Little Drummer boy?
Nope, that offends short people.
And you can't say drummer 'cause that will offend real musicians.
How 'bout little town of Bethlehem.
What's this with all the short jokes?
Hey how 'bout we do Silent Night?
No, it'll offend people who are hard of hearing and afraid of the dark.

Well, it's a Kung Pao Buckaroo Holiday,
Whatever you do watch what you say,
If you're easily offended well that's okay,
It's a completely non-offensive and politically correct holiday.
Hohoho!
No.
I can't say ho?
No you might offend some women.
So basically we can't sing anything?
I think that a bunch of bull bleep.

You now what? I don't care who we offend,
I'm gonna sing Chri-bleep-mas carols if I wanna sing Chri-bleep-mas carols.

Me too.
We wish you a merry Chri-bleep-mas, we wish you a merry Chri-biip-mas,
we wish you a merry Chri-bleep-mas, and a happy ne-bleep year.
We can't say new, it'll offend the old folks.
And you never wanna offend them.

Why should the racist Lord of the Rings Trilogy get a free pass? (and the nonsense continues):

Tolkien and ‘The Lord of the Rings’ Accused of Promoting Racism Due to Orc Discrimination

J.R.R. Tolkien’s famous and influential series, The Lord of the Rings, has been accused of purporting racism and discrimination due to its depiction of orcs.

“But it’s hard not to miss that repeated notion in Tolkien that some races are just worse than others. That some peoples are just worse than others. And this seems to me, in the long-term, if you embrace this too much, it has dire consequences for yourself and for society. So, Senator Bilbo is a parody in which you have a racist demagogue stomping around the world of the halfings in a sort of desperate holding pattern to keep at bay all the change that is coming about as they resolve the Lord of the Ring."

http://boundingintocomics.com/2018/11/26/tolkien-and-the-lord-of-the-rings-accused-of-promoting-racism-due-to-orc-discrimination/

New song lyrics redux length record!

Ain't no one raining on my Christmas parade in honor of the birth of Jesus.

"But baby, baby
Remember, remember
It's my life and I'll do what I want
It's my mind and I'll think what I want
Show me I'm wrong, hurt me sometime
Some day, I'll treat you real fine" The Animals.

And I will watch all the Rudolph I want while singing "Baby, It's Cold Outside" to my baby followed by baying at the moon that the Russians meddled in our election telling JR what to think, and he listened, and now Flynn is recommended for zero jail time because he is such a helpful guy to tell us all those redacted "substantial" details about linkages between Team Trump and Russian officials Pages and pages of redacted things. Enough to earn a get out of jail free card. Heck, if Roger Stone can plead the fifth and not even be in court, bay away..... bay away

On Friday, Mueller will detail, for the court, Manafort's lies, document is expected to be unsealed, and hopefully we will learn more about the inside workings of Team Trump during the election and transition.

Yes, it's beginning to look a lot like Christmas. Red noses are in, orange hair is out.

People are so busy trying to change things that already happened, essentially trying to erase history...wouldn't it make more sense to spend the time making sure we learn from our mistakes and make our children aware of past mistakes so that their future is better better? Seems like a a$$ backwards way of doing things.

Some good quotes all by George Orwell

“The most effective way to destroy people is to deny and obliterate their own understanding of their history.”
― George Orwell

“The past was erased, the erasure was forgotten, the lie became the truth.”
― George Orwell, 1984

“Every record has been destroyed or falsified, every book rewritten, every picture has been repainted, every statue and street building has been renamed, every date has been altered. And the process is continuing day by day and minute by minute. History has stopped. Nothing exists except an endless present in which the Party is always right.”
― George Orwell, 1984

You are right, Trump is attempting to hold off the one world government push which was setting up under Obama, however, Trump isn’t always going to be in charge. I am having trouble understanding how this thread has turned political like every other thread on here. Being this area is very conservative and I tend to have more liberal points of view I try not to go into political threads. Both sides have there own opinion about first amendment rights, the right for peaceful protest, and the right to choose the color of your Christmas tree. But this thread is about sensitivity to certain subjects in our culture now. That is a bipartisan issue. Liberals and conservatives alike are sensitive about their own topics. Just because I can understand people's concerns about the lyrics to songs (and that I am liberal) doesn't make me a snowflake......it makes me empathetic. I also feel that people can be too sensitive about things whether it is because they are old so no longer culturally appropriate or they look too deep into the meaning of the words.
I heard someone say recently they would not let her daughter watch The Little Mermaid because Ariel gave up her voice for a man. I see it that some would do anything for love. Different opinions, different approach, our daughters will both probably grow up just fine, and we are entitled to our own opinions as long as we are not hurting anyone else.

Remember, tomorrow is Friday and that means, it's Mueller time!

On Friday, Mueller will tell all about Manafort's lies in order to dump his plea and continue to lock him up. Since cheating on a plea is often seen as worse than the crime, it's lock him up time for sure.

Might be redacted but probably will not be sealed.

Hopefully there will be more messages to Don on this one, since he already has been talking to Manafort, than the eerie foreshadowing of Flynn's three investigations, one criminal, of which we only know about the Russian version.

Mueller wisely has been throwing anything not-Russia to other arms of DOJ, smart move given the Trump misinformation PR machine. Of course he took Cohen back in when the time was right.

He is following the "Nixon papers," just released because two lawyers on K street mysteriously filed for it, as his mechanism for removal. If Trump does not fall before xmas, it's on to the House for further investigations.

Heck, if this was the Benghazi investigation that lasted over 4 years and yielded nothing, absolutely nothing, we would only be halfway in, and this time there are already many witches indicted, jailed, singing like songbirds, and turning on each other like mobsters on the take.

Couldn't happen to a nicer gang of thieves.

Even the very liberal Boston globe is not onboard with Elizabeth Warren running for president. WOW!

Boston Globe To Warren: Lie-A-Watha...Don't Run In 2020

Former Massachusetts Gov. Deval Patrick has opted not to run. Anti-Trump lawyer Michael Avenatti has decided not to run in 2020 either. But Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-MA) is considering it. She looks to join one of the wackiest presidential fields in recent memory. The 2020 Democratic field is going to be a freak show—and a large one at that. Yet, there is one publication that is urging her to follow Avenatti and Patrick’s lead as well. The Boston Globeis suggesting that the fake Native American bow out

Donald Trump is really melting down on twitter today. How can people not see that this guy is bananas? I don't get it.

I agree, Warren should not run. Lightning rod, no compromise.

Today we have Comey meets Congress, specifically Republicans, specifically behind closed doors, even though Comey demanded a public hearing, they couldn't take the heat, could not stand the sunlight.

Then we have The Manafort Papers as Mueller details the lies leading him to drop Manafort's plea deal. There may be a new deal, perhaps not. The document will probably not be sealed and may or may not be heavily redacted in the right places. First, Mueller may want to assure Trump that he's got some lies in his written answers and Mueller knows. Trump has been talking to Manafort, so Mueller loses nothing to Trump by allowing those things to go public. We will see, but it will shed more light on investigation.

Kelly and Trump not talking, expect Melanoma to become Chief of Staff :>)

Trump nominated Bush AG Billy Barr. Barr has Trump view on executive privilege and "lock her up," but probably is legit enough. Trump will be surprised by the outcome on this, heh, heh.

Butina going through final deal making for her plea bargain to sing to the Feds. Got to worry NRA and Republicans she targeted because, well, because she could. This deal could go public any day now.

My oh my, Trump gonna have a hot, cold, weekend. Let the tweet storm follow. Where's the Flynn tweet?

claiming that you are offended is equivalent to stating that you are incapable of controlling and managing your own emotions so society needs to do it for you

Incorrect Skip.
One is free to internalize one’s feelings and/or objections.
Society is not required to satiate you.
Lashing out emotionally or more seriously, violently is when society might be required to act.

hg, if one didn’t control their emotions wouldn’t you agree that the prisons would be filled to capacity? Scary thought there.

When I get offended it’s usually for the reason Skippy mentioned - my emotions take over and my logical brain shuts off. The only way out of that trap is to compartmentalize the idiocy of what was said and recognize that everyone has a right to their own opinions, no matter how ignorant. Then let it go.

Wouldn’t it be great if more folks could muster the control needed to do that? Instead we tend to get idiotic statements, like the folks offended by religion who then claim that Mary was raped by the God who offended them. Stuff like that.

Yep - thanks Justin. We all have the responsibility to act appropriately and not let our emotions control our actions. Everything does not need to be legislated or banned that someone finds repugnant.

Jit; our prisons are already filled to capacity. We are the incarceration nation.

Banning these songs is not snowflake, its just silly. There’s lots of silly pc out there. Just another offense not to get all emotional about.

Compared to other current events, it’s a nit

Think Baby it’s cold ban was 3 radio stations, one brought it back already, another is about to, listener demand, and the third is under heavy listener rebuke. To me, that’s a good thing and what PC is all about. Being polite, listening, and trying to take the path of least offense. This time, after some discussion, it seems the song is apropos for the time and not that nasty for our time —-most people love it and so we party on.

Now if I could only get those Blue Oyster Cult lyrics out of my mind. Loved em from the beginning, actually read the lyrics a couple years ago and concluded I was whacked to listen to that crap. Telling me it was sarcasm or humor didn’t help.

Trump sees no collusion, no problems, no worries in latest memos.

Bwhaaaat?

Talk about poking the bear.

Strangerdanger Strangerdanger

Yes, Mr. Trump has said Mueller has cleared him, no collusion. "AFTER TWO YEARS AND MILLIONS OF PAGES OF DOCUMENTS (and a cost of over $30,000,000), NO COLLUSION!" he boldly goes where no lawyer would dare to tred…. No, Mr. President, it's not $30M, and we are less than halfway into a Benghazi-level investigation and we have 33 indictments plus 3 Russian companies, a couple dozenf Russians who can't tread anywhere with US reciprocity, and 7 guilty pleas/convictions. The witches are coming home to roost Mr. President.

Guess in patting himself on his own back, the Don missed the potential campaign finance violation and the pages upon pages of sealed/redacted Manafort/Cohen memos because they deal with….. Russia… Not to mention the lies Manafort told about Russian Kilimnik. Cohen mentioned scores of Russian outreaches to himself and Team Trump including a few attempts to set a Putin meeting that involved Ivanka. This is where business meets politics and family is indeed, the family.

Being an idiot as to what was going on might be good news for Trump because the only way he gets out of the two charges of campaign violation is to prove he’s an idiot totally unaware of the law that says you can’t pay off your illicit affairs with women using hush money during your campaign for President. Since Cohen used corporate dollars, there’s an solicitation of illegal corporate campaign contributions as well which is why the publisher turned state's evidence so quickly. It is certain that Cohen knew the law, he is a lawyer, but Don’s knowledge will have to be proven and he does have idiocy on his side….

So, we are up to two campaign finance violations where the government now alleges Trump was complicit in the conspiracy. Previously Cohen had made that charge n court but now the government is saying it in court. They are saying they have the facts to indict. Matter of fact, they note that a number of the campaign members plus Trump were involved in the violations meaning there’s a lot of people extra nervous this weekend. Especially the liars. Oh yeah, there are recordings……

But Don, even when guilty of campaign finance violations and lies of such magnitude that they may have cheated Hillary out of the Presidency, you will always have "no collusion" to keep you warm in your retirement.

Then there’s his Russian business dealings, both of which went into 2017. Both the campaign finance violations and the business dealings were hidden from his voters under direct questioning where Don repeatedly lied to the public. Many believed him, even voted for him, and still support him as the legitimate President today. But, let’s face it, he cheated, he lied, he won.

Meanwhile the Southern district listened to Trump and threw the book at Cohen whose only path out is giving good stuff to Mueller. May be too late for that, he may not have it; we hope he gives it his best effort to tell the truth.

Question: has any HL Trump supporter changed their mind as to whether this guy is a lying, cheating, crook?

Why does the 2nd amendment not rate as high a fundamental right like the 1st, 4th and 5th amendments do? Why is it ok to keep chopping away at it like it doesn't really matter?

Third Circuit: Second Amendment is a Second Rate Right

The two majority judges followed the trend of other Circuits where the Second Amendment is being degraded and reduced to second-rate status. Only a month ago, the First Circuit ruled the Second Amendment does not apply outside of the home.

The rogue Circuits are able to do this because the Supreme Court has been refusing to hear Second Amendment cases for nearly a decade. The Supreme Court only hears a limited number of cases. They are not required to hear all cases.

Some Circuit courts are gutting the Second Amendment by claiming it is not really a right. Rather, they say, it is a privilege the government may regulate if the government thinks it might do some good to regulate it. These Jurists seem embarrassed by the Second Amendment. They seem to believe their job is to limit it as much as possible, rather than to protect it as a fundamental right.

Re: Current Events Thread

.....

JeffersonRepub JeffersonRepub

Hmm, did I say that or are you pointing out the big picture, as you see it, totally objective, so therefore I’m not.

Just read the memo’s.

As to equating Mueller with Starr, that’s laughable. Campaign finance violations are a long way from lying about a bj. Lying about your business so you can.be elected is not lying about a legal dalliance.

As to the rest I agree. Everyone is baking the cake before they crack the eggs. The Guardian story is the best example of being in front of your headlights; even looks like fake news we all lapped up. But these memos are the goverment talking. And indictable crimes are being talked about.

We all want it to be over, but if you were Mueller, would you stop now or after January? Now or after you have all your facts? Now or after Manafort cracks, Cohen coughs up more, Stone crumbles, and Corsi cries. Even Butina may have more to offer on her pending plea bargain, who knows.

After all, Trump is a vengeful most power man in the world with a Lazarus ability to slip the noose. You need half the Republican Senators to believe, you have to be sure.

Read the memos; indictable campaign finance crimes, compromising Russian business deals, lies, more Russian reach-outs and contacts, and pages and pages of redacted Russian results.

You tell us what they say. Or maybe the 30k foot view of what they mean.

Strangerdanger Strangerdanger

“You tell us what they say. Or maybe the 30k foot view of what they mean.”

Can’t. I agree with your other statement:

“We all want it to be over, but if you were Mueller, would you stop now or after January? Now or after you have all your facts?”

Looking back at the past year and whatever, which one of us posted “facts”, because facts are our friends, and then jumped directly to a conclusion that Trump and company colluded with the Russians to win the election? Hint: It wasn’t me. Which also means that one of us isn’t following their own advice.

So I’ll say it again, because I guess saying it a hundred times isn’t enough, that only when the investigation concludes will any of us know if the original accusations prove true. So every time you present a “fact” then jump directly to a conclusion I am certain that someone here will point it out and you’ll still argue about it...

justintime justintime

I thought Trump paid for his own campaign so if its his money then campaign finance law doesn't apply. Nice try though SD.

Metsman Metsman

"Looking back at the past year...." You may be right here, but I thought I had agreed that there are no facts pointing to collusion at this time. Otherwise, do you think I would be bothering with anything else?

At first, I detailed how Trump built his business on top of Russian investment and sales and how he, like much of his top administration, is deeply beholden to Russia not just to selling some things, but to their lifetime careers. Hanging with the like of Sater is like hanging with Don Corleone and not expecting to "do a favor.". Trump and his son have told us the Russians are worth billions to them, the only bank doing business with him owns the largest Russian money laundering fines, and just got raided again in Germany for laundering investigation, again.

That was before the election and, now thanks to recent disclosure, continued during the election. Many of those investments remain today as a historical and present source of potential compromise.

Did Trump collude. Was he compromised. No facts directly say that. Is he dirty with the Russians. All fingers point to him being in a position to be beholden based on his, and his son's, own words, tax filings and other facts.

During the election, there were all sorts of crimes. The indictments, guilty pleas, and people in jail speak to that. Has Russian collusion been proved: of course not. What we do know is:

- much outreach from Russia to team Trump and vice-versa
- a number of face-to-face meetings between Russians, Russian surrogates (Saudi's), and Team Trump
- an arrested Russian spy infiltrating the NRA and other Republicans
- Trump family members and others trying to set up secret communication backchannels from Team Trump to mother Russia
- Trump family business dealings in Russia held secret from the American public, while Trump lied about his dealings as described by Trump himself.
- seeming Team Trump fore-knowledge of specific email releases
- Trump publc request to hack the emails which apparently, timing wise, was listened to, joke or not, you be the judge.
- a situation where, during the election, Putin knew Trump lied about his business dealings ongoing in Russia and therefore Putin was in position to tank the election for Trump at any time by exposing these lies.

There's more, but that's enough for now. So no collusion for sure, but here we have a group of people who frequently flaunted the law having many contacts with Russians while their leader, Trump, is indebted to Russia for his very existence,

So, to say, "only when the investigation concludes will any of us know if the original accusations prove true" is painfully true. But if one can't even entertain the possibility based on the plausibility of their history, their character, and their past deeds, well, that's one way to go.

And for the memos, if you can't read them and come to any conclusions re: campaign finance violations at minimum, instead concluding: "Can’t," I would say you have your head in the sand.

As to the rest, feel free to argue away. That's why we have forums. And you seem a bit testy today so swing away Merrill, swing away.

You don't seem testy at all, jit. It's just a waste of your time here and it must get tiring.

The extreme lunatic fringe left (which includes alot of the MSM) MADE Donald Trump President of the United States.

If they would accept that fact, and moderate themselves towards the center, towards a more JFK-democrat party, they could get rid of him, but they just keep doubling and tripling-down on the lunacy. Every Xmas song that gets banned, every cartoon that's called a "problem", every "big Mueller announcement" that produces nothing concrete, every month the investigations (witch hunt?) continue, every attack.... is not helping them. Should be interesting when Pelosi becomes majority leader in the House and starts the nonsense all over again.... (she's certifiable; why do you think Trump WANTS her to be speaker? "But do you finally understand why some of us gave you such a hard time last year when it was “all Russia, all the time”? If not then this’ll be more wash, rinse, repeat..." I live in Warren County, I did not notice :>)

I have changed rarely a fact I have issued re: Russia. I have summarized above the tedious facts I have provided over the years starting with Trump's primary win, again, as follows:

How Trump built his business on top of Russian investment and sales.
How he, like much of his top administration, is deeply financially beholden to Russia.
How Don hangs with Russian mobsters

All taking place before the election, although now proven to continue during the election, but many column inches needed to describe.

During and after the election, I added all the stupid Trump policies (most of them), and filled many a page especially as HLer's rallied around separation of families because they asked for asylum. During the election, I also covered all sorts of actual real-life crimes that many HLers still discount, as well as covering the Trump family of criminals and Russian sympathizers. The indictments, guilty pleas, and people in jail pretty much speak to the reality of my Rebecka suggested MSM-authored delusions. I've got people in jail, Rebecka has an opinion.

All along, if asked has Russian collusion been proved, I have answered, of course not, and provided a list of interesting occurrences:

- much outreach from Russia to team Trump and vice-versa
- a number of face-to-face meetings between Russians, Russian surrogates (Saudi's), and Team Trump
- an arrested Russian spy infiltrating the NRA and other Republicans
- Trump family members and others trying to set up secret communication backchannels from Team Trump to mother Russia
- Trump family business dealings in Russia held secret from the American public, while Trump lied about his dealings as described by Trump himself.
- seeming Team Trump fore-knowledge of specific email releases
- Trump public request to hack the emails which apparently, timing wise, was listened to, joke or not, you be the judge.
- a situation where, during the election, Putin knew Trump lied about his business dealings ongoing in Russia and therefore Putin was in position to tank the election for Trump at any time by exposing these lies.

Now we have the government listing two indictable felonies where the President is implicated not only by his long-serving personal lawyer, but now also, in court, the Government. Sure, it's alleged, but the Government has tipped it's hand saying it has the facts.

They will undoubtedly not indict a sitting President. It is up to the American people and Congress to decide his fate.

And anything Russia has been redacted form the memos; there are pages and pages of redactions that obviously point to Russia, and IMO it's a pretty strong bet that Muller will not come a cropper in all of this and has the goods of this guy. Can't imagine he's come this far with a nothing burger. He certainly has pages and pages redacted on the subject already. If it was innocence, why redact? Just like if these guys weren't guilty of something far worse, why did they take the guilty plea and plea bargain escape? But we don't know that....yet. And saying "no collusion proven" is as stupid as saying "he colluded."

It's a long way to getting enough Republicans on board and folks here may never get there. But I am hopeful, for the good of the country and the office of the President, that Trump sees the light and takes a long walk into that dark night. In which case, we may not know for a few decades or so what really happened. And that's OK with me too.

And naysayers? They has their opinions, and in the face of two felonies, their beliefs that the news is fake, the government corrupt and the only truth they have is what they believe is the truth. Well, bully for them.

Speaking of truth, or rather perspective on the truth:

https://techcrunch.com/2017/11/01/russian-facebook-ad-spend/amp/

Now who’s propaganda should we think “swayed” the election? The group who spent .05% the amount as the Republicans and Democrats, if SD is to be believed?

Sorry, but those of us who understand the level of our internal propaganda recognize that is what had the most affect, by a huuuuuuge amount, on the election outcome. But since Trump won, maybe the reality is that more folks are starting to ignore ALL the propaganda? I think that’s more probable than a mere 3500 Facebook ads that few ever saw.

Again, imo SD thinks that we are all just stupid and blindly follow what we are told (by those wanting to control us). Sorry, I’ll disagree with that all day long.

There certainly exists a group of unelected government and military officials who are employed term after term who effect national policy for sure - look at Peter strzok or John Brennan. Now how much they effect policy is to be determined. There are thousands of career employees at various levels of government that are civil service that have broad discretion in how they do their jobs - don’t agree with a policy? Follow the regulations to the letter and slow roll things to a standstill. This dosent just occur at the federal level.

It's interesting that the haters come on social media claiming that everyone else has only opinions while only they have the facts. Then they proceed to list out a whole bunch of opinions claiming them as facts. The same opinions that CNN and MSNBC spew every day on their stations. I have yet to see one allegation that has actually been proven. You know, like a check written by the President to Mr. Putin or a video of his team meeting with Assange. On the other hand, I have seen actual evidence that there were people in the FBI that hated Mr. Trump and claimed they would not let him be President. You want to talk about deception? How about a phony dossier, paid for by the Clinton campaign and presented like it is the truth? How many months did it take for Hillary to admit that it was created and paid for from her campaign? That's right, she never did admit to it. They had to sue to get the information. But you will never convince the haters that they are wrong because they are enjoying the hate. They get off on it. It's just another tactic to get what they want. I feel sorry for their spouses and children. If they have so much hate that they need to spread it multiple times every day, they must be a misery to deal with at home.

Looking forward to the release of the Mueller report findings. God bless America.

Don't worry Rosie. Some of us feel the same about those repeating the opinions that are being spewed by Fox News as facts! I know this forum primarily favors what you say Rosie, but I do watch many news forums and Fox certainly does like to provide many 'alternative facts' which really means nothing more than lies. I try not to get political on here and wish people would be more civil when in a discussion and I am saying this on both sides. I really do love how conservatives conveniently forget though the awful things they say about liberals and things that were never proven either. Chants of lock her up abounded when there was no proof of anything illegal and I am sure trump would have made sure she was if there was proof. Let's not forget that it works two ways and we would be pretty bored if everyone felt and thought the same way we do. There would be no one to argue with...... of course in a constructive and intelligent way!

Wow, JIT, great post on the Russian spend. Those are some amazing numbers…. even if a year old and completely replaced by new numbers, it’s still low. Here are the HIC numbers, around $100K. According to the Mueller indictment, the ad spend was $1.25M per month (probably across all forums). And lots of clicks, millions of clicks: https://www.washingtonpost.com/news/politics/wp/2018/05/10/what-data-on-more-than-3500-russian-facebook-ads-reveals-about-the-interference-effort/?utm_term=.60b8961e6f86

It’s still amazingly low.

The Presidential campaign was $2.4B. Clinton outspent Trump 2:1 somewhat indicating how Trump received a lot of free advertising based on his “newsworthiness.” And therein lies the fly in the ointment. Is the ad spend the important part OR is the ad reach the important part.

There’s no way to spin this beyond the formal spin statement that it did not affect the election. However, that’s our patriotic urban legend. No one really knows the effect of the meddling or the effect of the campaign finance violations by the President. Whatever that means, it certainly means we really don’t know. Independent of the amount that Americans spent or the number of clicks, do you really feel that any amount spent by an adversary foreign power, posing as Americans, is OK? Does the meager amount they spent overshadow the fact they were pretending to be American while lying through their teeth on the facts in order to get us excited?

No matter how much Americans poison Americans with spin, do you equate that, to anything spent by a foreign adversary to spin your mind with lies? Especially when you can’t measure it and when it can plant fake seeds that virally spread by real Americans that you can’t measure either?

How much one-world-order can you get than world-wide equal rights to spread fake news anonymously under cover of the American flag. I mean it’s bad enough that many believe most news sources are fake, our government is a complete fraud, but now they, of the big they, are not even American.

That said, some amazing numbers showing the Russians are screwing with us for an amazingly low price. And even if you give them credit for stealing low handing fruit via sensationalism using, from your article “ incendiary, divisive, eye-drawing content about polarizing issues, it likely was able to squeeze” more belief per buck, that’s still a big buck difference.

Question is how much is enough to change the outcome? And we don't know that either.

However, that’s only part of the story and you believe that partial assumptions do not show the big picture: We need to know the corresponding reach and re-share rates beyond the 126M people (that includes JR's 500 different times :>) ) that Facebook reached.

Other Russian attempts were out there too, like organizing rallies, paying for participation, and doing other tasks. One guy got paid to put a cage on a truck for lock-her-up, another to play prison-suited Clinton. Much more to learn here by all of us.

Great post JIT, makes me want to know more. Glad to see you at 10K feet :>)

Plus,
"President Trump's approval rating before the November elections has jumped to a higher level than former President Obama's ahead of the 2010 midterms, according to a new NBC/Wall Street Journal poll.

The poll found Trump's approval rating at its highest level for that poll yet, at 47 percent. Obama's approval rating was 45 percent around the same time in 2010, according to a similar NBC/Wall Street Journal poll taken in late October 2010. "

"See, it's not a fact yet that Trump will have more than anyone. For all you know, his next C.O.S. might last the next 2-6 years. You have NO IDEA." Hmmm, no idea. No track record. Hmmmm. Actually, he does have more than Bush, but not saying that you can't even count..... :>) Much less math, forecasting, or even history...….

Gotta love a guy who doubles down on bad math basically saying ---- the past will not be prologue to the future so don't try to use the past to forecast the future.

Since when is 3 over 2 not more than 5 over 8 or 2 over 8 or 4 over 8. Since you're doubling down on your math, let me help you with mine. That's 1.5 per year for Trump; .625 per year for Obama, .25 per year for Bush, and .5 per year for Clinton.

At his current rate, Trump will have up to 12 COS if he makes 8 years.

Again, to help you with the math challenge, that makes Trump three times worser than Bill and 6 times worser than Bush.

But dream on in your opinion that Trump will hire well or suddenly develop a personality that people want to work with. He could pivot any day now. He could change from a petulant, passive-aggressive, back-biting, narcissistic, lying, boss that pits people against each other just to see the results into an empowering, efficient, and effective manager. He might show us his taxes right after the audit; there is no collusion with Russia, I never said I wasn't doing business in Russia, I just said I wasn't doing business in Russia. I not only funded my own campaign using RNC dollars, I did not pay off these ladies during my campaign so they would not effect my campaign and therefore those dollars, just like the dollars that funded my campaign are not campaign effecting even if I got my publisher buddy to give me my dollars for this hushing up of the fact that I did nothing wrong.

I am sorry. I can not fix your math skills either.

More like a blue trickle. And I believe a lot of the new Dem seats oppose Pelosi, so that is why many of them got elected. They lost seats in the Senate thanks to the Kavanaugh nonsense. Still, Obama lost a huge amount of seats in 2010 compared to this time around for Trump. The next two years will just show what a horrible leader Pelosi is. Trump is smart to endorse her. Dball --- They will probably never indict a sitting President, and certainly not for campaign violations. However, when he leaves the Presidency, NY and perhaps the Southern District will come down on him, his businesses, and his foundation like a ton of bricks.

Impeachment is a perception and Trump's entire "legal' effort has been dedicated to that cause. Certainly his efforts have little to do with the law. Mueller has been mostly silent and has not divulged more than a peek at his Russian evidence. He needs to be able to turn 50% or so of Republican Senators to win an impeachment. The House is a far easier impeachment row to hoe.

IMO, Mueller does not want that, what he wants is to show overwhelming evidence to Congress, sealed, behind closed doors, that will lead Senators to convince Trump it's over and have him slink away into that good night, perhaps saving his business and family in the offing.

strangerdanger strangerdanger

I am not kidding you Metsman but I am simply in the opposing camp as you. You as well as many others are very adamant about defending Trump when he has proven himself a liar many times.
Though I am a liberal, I want him to succeed. We all live here and our country's successes are good for everyone no matter their side of the fence. I would love peace throughout the world no matter who put it in motion (idealistic but not realistic I know!)! I don't even care who he sleeps.......that makes him not a good husband, family man, or role model but doesn't make him a bad president. I have a problem with the way he uses words to incite violence and bully and mock people (many of those he hired and used to admire for honesty, etc., etc.) I don't like most of his policies but I know many of you on this forum don't agree.
But I feel that many people blindly follow or defend someone without finding out the facts (that is not true for all.....we can and should have varying opinions even with the same facts). On this forum so many determined the dump truck driver MUST have been at fault instead of waiting for more info. We should be able to have a conversation without people (and that is liberals AND conservatives) going off the rails and screaming at each other in type.

"But I feel that many people blindly follow or defend someone without finding out the facts"

I agree with this. But the other side is just as bad (much worse actually): condemning and postulating based on HOPES and conjecture instead of actual facts. Guilty until proven innocent, if you will. And not just Trump- look at the Kavanaugh hearing fiasco!

Russia for example: there is no evidence. Not yet anyway. Even Comey/Mueller has said hasn't found any evidence of so-called "Russian collusion". Yet pages and pages and hours and hours (many days at this point. Weeks?) of "news" has been done on that story. It's not journalism, the MSM has turned into the National Enquirer.

If there is actually evidence- indisputable facts- that prove Trump colluded with the Russians to affect the election, I'd be one of the people calling for impeachment. Altho if they haven't found anything by this point, I'm also fine with not spending anymore taxpayer money on what I see as a witch hunt, based on the FACT that NO convincing evidence has come to light, in 2 years. The only "russian collusion" I can see is the DNC paying to have the "russian dossier" created in an effort to affect the election (and that was after the GOP tried todo the same thing, to keep Trump from being able to be the nominee)

https://www.nytimes.com/2017/10/25/us/politics/steele-dossier-trump-expained.html

And that's another thing- I'm not "defending Trump" at all... what I am doing is NOT CONDEMNING him as guilty until he is proven guilty. But to many rabid Trump-haters on the left, that means "you're defending him, you love him, you believe him no matter what"... no, I'm just WAITING on actual facts to make an INFORMED opinion on... an opinion based not on emotions, hatred, fear, conjecture, or hope... but on FACTS.

SO TIRED of the
"if you don't hate Trump and agree with us that he is the devil incarnate (or at least a russian plant lol) then you agree with everything he has ever said or done, you are a racist, misogynist, evil, capitalist/rich/white man, and I HATE YOU for it" attitude.
ALOT of people really need to do some growing up.

“Russia for example: there is no evidence.” So sayeth some HLers. I say: 33 indictments, 3 company’s indicted, 7 guilty pleas, 3 with jail time. The entire upper echelon of the Trump campaign has been indicted. Five Trump aides have plead guilty. One Senior Advisor to the President went down. This was on dirty, cheating, campaign --- based on the guilty. And Mueller has never once released Russia findings, by design. He does not march to JR's, Trump's, or any other.

“All along, if asked has Russian collusion been proved, I have answered, of course not, and provided a list of interesting occurrences.“ Some say that's my indictment, it is not.

Some more “interesting occurrences” recently entered into s record where some see NO COLLUSION. Just as a rough metric, we look at the three memo’s, Flynn Sentencing Memo (FSM), Manafort Lies Memo (MLM), and Cohen Sentencing Mueller Memo (CSM) all entered into the court records.

FSM – the term Russia or Russian used 14 times with redactions.
MLM – No Russia, just Kilimnik meeting with redactions.
CSM – Russia or Russian used 23 times with redactions.

Before you say, no bloody knife, have some patience. No final report yet either. You can look at the redactions and go totally-JR and say there’s no there OR you can say, hmmm, there’s a lot of words under those miles of redaction.

From the FSM: “members of President-Elect Trump’s transition team publicly stated that they had spoken to the defendant, and that he denied speaking to the Russian ambassador about the sanctions”

“the defendant falsely stated that he did not ask the Russian ambassador to refrain from escalating the situation in response to the sanctions, and falsely disclaimed any memory of his subsequent conversation with the ambassador in which the ambassador stated that Russia had acceded to the defendant’s request.”

“false statements to the FBI about his prior interactions with the Russian government in December 2016 concerning a pending United Nations Security Council resolution.”

From the CSM: “He withheld information material to the investigations of Russian interference in the 2016 U.S. presidential election”

“The defendant admitted he told these lies—which he made publicly and in submissions to Congress—in order to (1) minimize links between the Moscow Project and Individual 1 and (2) give the false impression that the Moscow Project had ended before the Iowa caucus and the first presidential primaries, in hopes of limiting the ongoing Russia investigations being conducted by Congress and the SCO. “

“Similarly, it was material that Cohen, during the campaign, had a substantive telephone call about the project with an assistant to the press secretary for the President of Russia.”

“The defendant also provided information about attempts by other Russian nationals to reach the campaign”

“Cohen received the contact information for, and spoke with, a Russian national who claimed to be a “trusted person” in the Russian Federation who could offer the campaign “political synergy” and “synergy on a government level.”

So no there there, just an awful lot of smoke hiding under the Russia redactions. But don’t say Russia is not there, never mentioned, because Russia is all over these memos.

We've had 2 years of "patience". NO evidence. Feel free to continue living on hopes & dreams, just don't call it "facts" or we will take you down every time. I, for one, would like to see more ACTUAL facts (not SD "facts") and less propaganda ("conjecture") in this thread.

BTW... if Russia "being mentioned" was evidence of wrongdoing, that would put YOU and all the MSM in prison LOL. Let's not forget- at the time, Trump was running for POTUS. A position that would have him dealing with and talking to many political figures and countries, Russia being but one of them.

“Russia for example: there is no evidence.” So sayeth some HLers. I say: 33 indictments, 3 company’s indicted, 7 guilty pleas, 3 with jail time. "

It is clear from these postings that those liking trump feel he is innocent. Those who do not like trump suspect he is guilty of what it remains to be seen. When Mueller completes his investigation and releases his findings then we will know. At that point the facts will be made known and if anything illegal happened only the guilty need worry. Lets wait and see and hold off the games until then.

Actually JR, I have never once said anything condemning him of crimes because I am too waiting for it to play out. I said I don't like him because of his policies and bullying. I also said the blindness is on both sides. I don't find the liberals are worse......or better either. On this forum I do feel some liberals feel very defensive because they are far outnumbered in this area and when people get defensive it turns into nonsense rant rather than an educated one.......though I have seen many conservatives do that too.
I also feel that most people are that are extreme right wing or left wing are scary. Most people seem to think here keep seeming to think all liberals are extremists which is far from the truth! Anyone going too far either way should illicit fear!

Sorry JR but I figured since you quoted me you were! Misread it......my apologies!

SD people pay off extortionists all the time to protect themselves. It isn’t a campaign finance law violation to do that, especially when it’s his own money. Nice stretch there.

Flynn lied about something that happened after the election was over. Has nothing to do with Russian meddling.

Manafort was prosecuted for things that happened years ago before his time with Trump.

Cohen was caught for tax evasion over a taxi business and would have faced substantial time unless he pleaded. Him pleading to campaign finance violations doesn’t mean it’s true.

Everyone else are being put in perjury traps. Corsi is suing Mueller. So if those are your smoking guns that Trump is guilty then that is comical.

Yes, the guilty pleas were not for Russian collusion; never said they were. What I noted were all the uses of the word Russia/Russians in the recent memos filed with the court. All surrounded by redactions of significant amounts of text. Hmmm, interesting.

No, I know what point they are “trying” to make, but they neutered it so much (surely to get consensus from 44 people) that it completely loses any strength.

No, I'm just not blinded by so much hate for Trump that I think this comes anywhere close to being a "dire warning letter".

Some other reader comments (These from those who appear to *agree* with what the letter should have said... but still find it lacking)

"It's not powerful. It's almost entirely without substance. "We believe in democracy" seems to be its central claim. Wow. Yes. Very powerful and very brave... if our standards for bravery have sunk so low, as I suppose they have in this country."

"This says nothing. It criticizes no one -- especially not the people who most deserve our censure, namely, Trump and his quisling enablers. It commits to nothing . Not to insisting on protecting the Mueller probe. No even to affirming the critical importance of the Mueller probe, that it be allowed to reach its conclusions unimpeded by a Trump administration hell-bent on obstructing justice. Just pitiful."

"I'm delighted to see one person agrees with me. All these "Oh, Thank You Brave Senators" responses -- what are these people thanking them for?? Did they read the letter? If they discovered any actual substance: please enlighten the rest of us.
Another missed opportunity by career politicians so concerned about being careful and cautious that they can't see and won't admit the catastrophe that is unfolding before us in real time: the most corrupt, inept, vicious presidential administration in modern history."

"A nice sentiment perhaps But in the end, trying to find something they all could agree on, all things to all people, just watered it down to platitude"

"With all due respect, i've read this twice and I have no idea what is the purpose of your missive. If you want to tell your colleagues :
"Don't protect a clueless crook playing POTUS on Tweeter just because he pretends to belong to your party" - just say it.
Otherwise, don't waste time and paper. "

Plenty more like that... as well as a whole bunch of "Orange Man Bad!" comments.

Either way, it's a swing and a miss from 44 former senators (some of whom were voted out, mind you...)

Where did I express any anger?

Former Senators, much like anyone else, are free to write any op-ed letter they want.
This was just terribly weak one, considering what 44 senators with hundreds of years of political experience among them should be capable of writing, and a dire warning of nothing.

Heck, there are some individual posters here, with whom I vehemently disagree, that could pen a more substantive and thought provoking letter.

I’m sure McConnell is trembling at receiving such a “warning” from a bunch of Democrats (with a sprinkling of RINO’s thrown in) having just *increased* his majority in the Senate.

(And actually... it’s not quite unprecedented. Ironically 44 *current* Senators signed on to a letter earlier this year. Sure, it was about World Cup Soccer, but at least they made a concise point.)

Tucker is probably the most reasonable anchor on cable news. That's not even open for debate. All these other clowns like Don Lemon just spew hate. Anyone who can't see in these clips of other channels that these liberals aren't doing that clearly have tunnel vision. Apparently it's an impeachable offense according to liberals for paying off women who extort you, but when they do the same thing in congress we're not allowed to know about it. Total hypocrisy.... If this is what Democrats are going to spend the next 2 years doing, trying to impeach Trump, then they're power will quickly be taken from them. People aren't interested in impeaching him. Maybe if you live in an alternate reality like SD and Stymie that's what you want. The rest of us want legislation that helps the country to get done.

"Apparently it's an impeachable offense according to liberals for paying off women who extort you," Honestly, don't make me school you. You can look this up EZ and understand the felony. Also see the corporate contribution solicited by Cohen in conspiracy to defraud the electorate with Donald J. Trump making this two different types of felonies as well.

I find it amazing that team-conservative who spent much more time and money to catch a guy lying about a legitimate extramarital bj at an investigative cost of $12M per year for like $70M over the 6-years of different investigations having an issue with the cost and time of the Mueller investigation. A $70M bj lie. You're getting a deal on this one, be happy.

For it's short time, Mueller has 31 indictments on the table, 7 guilty pleas, and a few in jail. Russians, Russian companies, and a lawyer.... have been indicted.

The Mueller investigation is profitable; it has seized and turned over to the Treasury between $30M - $40M in Manafort dollars. Haven't gotten to the Cohen dollars yet. So, you are making money, be happier.

Just wait till we start seizing the Don's assets. And he's got one huge asset.

That said, chances are they won't indict a sitting President. And campaign finance violations are extremely hard to prove. Even if they have the Don on tape. You do know that, right, Mets, they have him on tape ordering Cohen to do the deed.

That said, impeachment is the only way to make the Don pay for his crimes of cheating in the election and stealing the Presidency. But this one is still not enough by itself given that Hatch, Thune, Grassley, Kennedy, and McCarthy, for example, have all lined up already, before seeing the facts, to blindly support Trump and say there is nothing there, Cohen is a liar, OR it's the Democrats.

Hatch said: “The Democrats will do anything to hurt this president" No, boys, it's the SDNY making the allegations; it's YOUR justice department. You don't have a clue what party the individuals involved might belong to. They DO belong to the team that believes in the rule of law though. How about you? Turn in your membership yet?

For Clinton, Hatch said: "…..it cannot tolerate one who makes a mistake and then breaks the law to cover it up. Any other citizen would be prosecuted for these crimes.” Yeah, belly up to the bar on that one Dude.

Other excuses are "he's new, we all make mistakes," and "Cohen is of low moral fiber and can not be believed." Uh.....there's corroborating evidence, as noted in the filing.....Trump on tape.... Whatever....

These boys better hope for blue skies ahead in Trumplemania because we know what just happened in the mid terms and their time is coming for payments due.

Of course Mets, I would like to see things get done. Let's start by cleaning some crooks out of office.

Let me see if I can summarize…. People in government effect national policy, how much is to be determined. People can follow regulations and bring things to a standstill, aka bureaucratic red tape. I would guess, by extension, that people can shortcut regulations to speed things along too….

Is this not true in the private sector, the non-profits, and the rest? Don’t we all have regulations, guidelines, and rules that we “use’ to effect outcomes?

SD the left makes up rules as they go and you know it. Trump used his own personal money to pay these women. That has nothing to do with campaign money. Today Cohen is being sentenced for lying, tax evasion, campaign finance violations, and excessive campaign contribution violations. Of the last two, Cohen has implicated the President as directing Cohen's actions.

The President who lied about this under direct questioning during the election, lied about it after becoming President has admitted he did it but feels it's a civil matter and not illegal.

The SDNY believes they have the goods on the President, including tapes, and that it is an indictable felony.

Cohen, a lawyer, tends to agree as he looks at a few years in jail over the crime Trump says Trump did, after lying for all these years so he could become President, but Trump says is not a crime. Well, if it's not a crime, pardon the man....

Meanwhile......your petulant President brought Nancy and Chuck to the oval office for a bipartisan confab on the border wall. Trump proceeded to berate, talk over, side snipe, as he issued his proclamation: if I don't get MY wall, I will shut down the government.

Game on Tiny.

"Trump used his own personal money to pay these women." Then why did the Publisher pay? Why did Cohen say he paid? You sure Trump used his own money?

Don't matter anyway. Read what entails campaign finance contribution violations. Even if it came out of his own pocket, if it was used to further your cause in an election campaign, that's against the law.

IOW, if he spent money for the purpose of getting elected, as in hushing some lovers from going public during or just before the election, it's a campaign contribution. The fact that Cohen paid, or worse yet, a corporation paid, just makes it worse.

"SD you can't prove he did it to get elected that's the point." Oh, heck Mets, I have said all along this is a tough case to prove. John Edwards slipped the noose. Menendez slipped the noose causing another Mets hissy fit.

It is still viewed, by the SDNY, as an indictable crime. The do have it on tape. And they do say he did it to be elected, or better said, not to be defeated. He did it. He cheated. He lied. He got elected. All of that is true.

The fact that indicting a President is memo'd as a DOJ no-no doesn't help either. They will probably never bring this case to court while he is President.

As to you hating Bill's bj but loving Trump's spanking, groping and sexing it up, that is your thing. I say, indict them all and take it to the judge. But this isn't about which extra marital affair you hate and which you ignore. This is about an campaign finance violation, including an illegal corporate contribution spearheaded by Donald J. Trump in furtherance of his goal to become POTUS. He cheated, he lied, and became President and you still love him because, as you say: "They all lie. None of them are truth tellers."

Hey, if you accept these lies, why not accept the Muslim tape over Benghazi fabrication? After TEN investigations, 6 by your guys alone, after over 4 YEARS of study, mostly by your guys, all resulting in innocent, do you rest easy? But nooooooo, you still think that one is open.

And the answer to Trump's guilt in this will never be provided in court. It will be answered, with the Russian report, in the Congress. Hopefully, the public won't even gain information access for a few decades. In Congress, it is not innocent until proven obvious, it is "high crimes and misdemeanors." Last time I checked, a Trump felony trumps a Constitution-based misdemeanor.

Last time around, the House impeached on a lie about a bj, the Congress said, "nah, not that bad." What will it be this time, starting with some hush money instead of an October surprise, and then whatever the Russia report shows.

On this one, do you really think he paid off to protect his family OR to become President? Really wan to know.... I mean the hush money plan was in place for years, why did they suddenly implement it in October of 2016.

I realize you would have voted for him anyway even if you knew what you know today. That's how you roll. You love the guys antics.

As to the lying, oh come on man, can't you count? 6,420 falsehoods in 649 days. Like a lie every hour of the business day. https://www.washingtonpost.com/politics/2018/11/02/president-trump-has-made-false-or-misleading-claims-over-days/?noredirect=on&utm_term=.ec0fdf2cf4c3

"120 times he had falsely said he passed the biggest tax cut in history,
80 times he has asserted that the U.S. economy today is the best in history and
74 times he has falsely said his border wall is already being built."

I mean this guy lies even after being totally exposed for lying. Do you really think a habitual liar like this needs to pay off hush money to protect Melania? From what, more lies? She's accepted everything so far, what's another extra marital affair?

If you can even get to a 50% level of equivalent lies and falsehoods with any other President, I will concede. Maybe even 25%. Otherwise, just keep sucking it up, bending over and taking it. Let's face it, you just love the lies from your guy. The more the better, the bigger the bouncier. Eat em up. It's your style to accept.

strangerdanger strangerdanger

You expect us to take this article seriously? They take each statement and count them as multiple falsehoods. Things also depend on your point of view. Certain aspects of the tax cuts like slashing corporate taxes probably is the greatest tax cut as far as that goes. Lowest unemployment in a very long time including lowest all time for certain groups and highest stock market ever could be looked at as greatest economy. Some rundown fencing has been replaced. Prototype walls have been built. So technically something has been done. If he said chocolate ice cream is the best flavor ever you and other liberals would say he’s lying. Excuse me if I actually listen to experts in law over talking heads like Don Lemon and the two loony toons over at MSNBC. Your side is just desperate. It’s all about what you can prove and they can’t prove Trump paid anyone off to influence the election. It’s the word of Cohen over Trump. That doesn’t lead to convictions of any kind. When actual evidence is presented that proves Trump is guilty of something then most people will listen and react accordingly. Spin like you spout out isn’t enough to prove anything.

I can't see Trump going to prison. I'm not saying he shouldn't; any one of us would most likely already be there if we'd pulled some of the stuff he has. But I can't imagine a scenario where someone with his money and, now, the power of the Presidency behind him will ever spend time behind bars. He may very well fall from whatever in his realm qualifies as grace, but I'll be shocked if he ever truly does time.

Again SD because you don’t know how to read, it’s only a lie if it doesn’t fit your agenda. Saying “I did not sleep with that woman”, is a lie. Saying Iraq had WMD’s, that’s a lie. Saying “You can keep your doctor”, that is a lie. Saying these are the greatest tax cuts ever, is based on a POV. The Democrats are the ones that blocked the tax cuts from being permanent by not voting for them. Cutting corporate taxes and getting rid of certain regulations was needed. You’ll then say “Oh but the debt”… Congress and the Senate are the ones that pass spending bills. If they’re so concerned with the debt then why aren’t they coming together and doing something about it… They don’t because whatever side isn’t in power doesn’t want to make a sitting President look good. You’re all for letting illegals jump the crappy fences we have up… They cost us over $100 billion a year and overburden our school systems and cause our taxes to go up. You think that number is going to go down if nothing is done at the border like the Dems want? We’re going to have a major economic crisis one day from all the poor people coming here illegally and leaching off the system. They are just trying to reshape the country so that they can keep their power. This country much like the Roman empire and every power before it will cease to exist because of the BS that the two parties cause. But you’re worried about Donald Trump…. Right….

Third Circuit: Second Amendment is a Second Rate Right

"The Second Amendment is an equal part of the Bill of Rights. We must treat the right to keep and bear arms like other enumerated rights, as the Supreme Court insisted in Heller. We may not water it down and balance it away based on our own sense of wise policy." - - - - 554 U.S. at 634-35.

Yet the majority treats the Second Amendment differently in two ways. First, it weighs the merits of the case to pick a tier of scrutiny. That puts the cart before the horse. For all other rights, we pick a tier of scrutiny based only on whether the law impairs the core right. The Second Amendment’s core is the right to keep weapons for defending oneself and one’s family in one’s home. The majority agrees that this is the core. So whenever a law impairs that core right, we should apply strict scrutiny, period. That is the case here.

Second, though the majority purports to use intermediate scrutiny, it actually recreates the rational-basis test forbidden by Heller. It suggests that this record favors the government, but make no mistake—that is not what the District Court found. The majority repeatedly relies on evidence that the District Court did not rely on and expert testimony that the District Court said was “of little help.” 2018 WL 4688345, at *8. It effectively flips the burden of proof onto the challengers, treating both contested evidence and the lack of evidence as conclusively favoring the government.

Whether strict or intermediate scrutiny applies, we should require real evidence that the law furthers the government’s aim and is tailored to that aim. But at key points, the majority substitutes anecdotes and armchair reasoning for the concrete proof that we demand for heightened scrutiny anywhere else. New Jersey has introduced no expert study of how similar magazine restrictions have worked elsewhere. Nor did the District Court identify any other evidence, as opposed to armchair reasoning, that illuminated how this law will reduce the harm from mass shootings. Id. at *12-13. So New Jersey cannot win unless the burden of proof lies with the challengers. It does not.

Well this came out of nowhere... I wonder if the GOP is finally thinking it would be better to keep Trump than to lose to the democrats (or have him impeached)? If the wall gets underway, that would go a LONG way to securing his re-election, imo. Of all his campaign promises, that one was the big one. And no- we don't care if the US pays for it LOL.

It's likely nothing will come of it. DC can't get ANYTHING done in 3 weeks. The next big fight (besides trying to impeach Trump), will be Trump using the military budget to fund the wall, since it is literally a national security issue.

Yesimpc - great post. Well thought-out and balanced. I agree.

(can't believe I'm agreeing with someone who has "PC" in their screen name LOL)

The new dem house might have enough "evidence" to impeach, but unless its way more damning than campaign finance violations (which were smaller than Obama's), the senate will not impeach.

Heck- Clinton lied to the American people, and then lied to congress (which is what he was impeached for), and even a REPUBLICAN senate wouldn't convict. Clinton was impeached on grounds of perjury to a grand jury (by a 228–206 vote) and obstruction of justice (by a 221–212 vote).

The whole political field has turned into the National Enquirer, and like Rebecka said: alot of it is nothing but a distraction to keep us from seeing the bigger picture, and certainly from coming together as a people. It's virtually planned chaos- it's not chaos yet, but they're working on it.

The Second Amendment is an equal part of the Bill of Rights. We must treat the right to keep and bear arms like other enumerated rights, as the Supreme Court insisted in Heller. We may not water it down and balance it away based on our own sense of wise policy.

The majority repeatedly relies on evidence that the District Court did not rely
on and expert testimony that the District Court said was “of little help.

LOL in reality it's more half and half; just like the election results. It's a perfect split down the middle, which is exactly how DC wants it. Keeping up the hate and division only serves them.

Depending on which poll you believe, Trump pretty much has the same approval rating as Obama did around midterms; pols can be controlled of course, so some polls say Obama was higher, some say Trump is higher, the truth, AS USUAL, no doubt lies somewhere in the middle.

"Trump lost the popular vote by 3 million - not exactly a 50/50 split "

In the grand scheme of 128 million votes cast, that makes the tally 48.8% to 52.6%... well within a "margin of error"... technically half? No. Technically most? Yes. But REALISTICALLY, it's very close to a 50/50 split, much closer than you and others would have the rest of the people believe.

And of course I don't have to tell you we elect by Electoral College (for good reason), not popular vote (mob rule).

Traitor to his country? Completely unproven. Just your opinion, which you entitled to have. But spouting your opinion as fact (a favorite pastime around here) means nothing. If it's shown he committed actual treason, kill him. But then I'd be all for going back and digging super-deep into the Clintons as well.... dirtiest hands in politics in a very long time....

Re: Current Events Thread

"SD you’re the only one interested in the so-called 6,000 lies. The rest of us are happy with the direction things are going." And they say I am in an alternate reality. The reality is that you hate Hillary so much that you sold your soul to win. You now accept hate speak, lies, cheating, as common fare. You are willing to do any deed to succeed. And you soothe your soul by saying "it's just more of the same, "THEY" did it first."

You selected your snake oil salesmen with his Mafioso management style to clean the swamp. Reap what you sow. JIT loves a root cause. The root cause is that Trump is corrupt. He made his fortune flaunting laws and leveraging capital to do so. His private, clandestine organization is mostly family at the top, crooks and fixers at the next level, and then the soldiers. The root cause is they are a corrupt, criminal, organization. And some applaud their antics.

InaugurationGate has cropped up again as Federal Prosecutors review the finances. There are $10's of millions missing. Good news: they will probably hang this on Gates as being responsible for managing the funds. So it will be InaugurationGatesGate. Question is what happens when we follow the money. Was any of it foreign? Was it for access? Why were all those Russians in the front row at Trump's inauguration? Time will tell but what is known is that Trump hires crooks. Lots of them.

Campaign Finance Gate has upped their ante with Trump's tiny friend, his Pecker, who has gone soft and flipped on him announcing publicly that Trump was there, Trump directed the action, the action was designed to win the election, and that the action included a corporate donation violation component as well. Cohen concurred in court and has pleaded guilty to the charges. They have Trump on tape. This is a Trump indictable criminal offense, no matter what the Don tells you.

ButinaGate has our first Russian to flip. She will now tell all about how she influenced you through the NRA. I know, you are open minded patriots that never would fall prey to Russian propaganda. Yeah, we said that about the Benghazi Muslim hate tape too. Butina's guilty plea sort of says, no --- the NRA did fall prey. And you fell prey to the NRA. Like Trump answering Butina: "we will remove the sanctions," you fell prey. The interesting part will be to follow the money. The NRA donated much more to Trump than in past elections. Time to follow the money and see if any was foreign, as in Russian.

RussiaGate is still behind Mueller's closed doors. He seems content to continue his investigation while perhaps doing a little orchestration with SDNY, DC/MD State, and DOJ/Spy Team. Why did the Nixon impeachment plan hit the FOIA release at the penultimate moment from a request from a couple of K-street attorneys?

ManafortGate turns slowly as Manafort appears to be heading to sentencing. This one is very weird as it appears Manafort is doing everything he can to get as much time as he can. CorsiGate is tracking right along this same path as well. Time will tell whether life in prison, tell all, or pardon will result.

Trump FoundationGate can proceed a NY State Supreme Court judge ruled recently. Campaign finance violations again (and a really mean way to run a charity) but this one includes Ivanka, Don Jr., and Eric. Note to rich fools: do not include your kids on your foundations. Ask Don or Bill how that's worked out..... The defendants must respond by January 2019.

Chief of Staff Gate: Don has more people not wanting than wanting to be Don's last CoS. The tweet refusal was the cat's pj's of a dis. Basically, the Don hires and fires more lame talent than any other President in our history. Can't wait to see what clown he convinces to take this beating. Note to Trump: do not have prospectives interview with ex-CoS's…. https://www.cnn.com/interactive/2017/08/politics/trump-admin-departures-trnd/

EmolumentGate: Maryland and DC are still suing Trump over unfair competitive practices at his DC hotel that caters to the foreign and famous including hundreds of room rentals by the Saudis. Judge rules in the summer that the Don's case can continue, Trump is appealing (legally that is). This one is big in that if it goes to court, Trump may have to reveal his guest list and that could be a killer.

Much to do and if it's Friday ----- It's Mueller time!!! Keep the faith folks, he may be innocent. And then again ---- see picture :>)

You're funny, always grasping at straws.... Captain Desperation.

She's self-employed, there is no corporate matching. And the $2700 was pure profit, does not include the deposits. No idea what she's invested in, but I'm sure it's diversified.

And Ian- it's a long story, but she only started saving several years ago (she had a good reason to not be able to save prior to that), so while I know she's been putting as much away as possible, we aren't talking 30 years of deposits. I don't think it's even been 10.

Rumor has it that Trump is considering Chris Christie for Chief of Staff... which will cement the comedy gold coming out of the White House for the next two years at least. My only concern is how will Trump tell Christie and Sarah Huckabee apart?

And what should Trump be locked up for LibertyThinker? Do you have a crime in mind? Paying off women to keep quiet is not illegal. And even if it’s a campaign finance violation in the end, Obama had a much larger violation and only got a fine. No, you just don’t like the guy. If there truly are high crimes committed by this President no one would stand by him. It’s gonna take a hell of a lot more than this to get rid of him. And back to your popular vote nonsense… You do realize that 3 million came from California right? Every state is like it’s own little country with their own set of laws. There should never be a popular vote except within the states themselves. That’s just a cry baby tactic used by the left. I can tell you I wouldn’t have said a word if it was the other way around and Trump lost even though he had more popular votes. There’s wisdom in having the system that we do.

"Paying off women to keep quiet is not illegal." I am sorry, but in the face of frequent push backs as to the legitimacy of your claim, this is a completely stupid remark. Or spin, take your choice. He may not be found guilty, but there is a campaign finance violation and these payoffs can apply. Especially now that Pecker has come forward.

The crime is not paying off women; the crime is campaign finance violations, one is a corporate donation crime. Over and over..... Do you have a link that dares to say this is not a criminal act?\ One written post Pecker?

Clearly, if Cohen and Pecker already pled guilty to this crime, do you need a dollar to buy a clue? If you are right, they are the stupidest people on the planet. If you are wrong, Trump is a liar. Tough one to believe who is right......

Let's go with Times: "Trump Said Campaign Finance Violations Aren't a Crime. Experts Say That's 'Nonsensical'"
http://time.com/5374619/donald-trump-campaign-finance-law-crimes/

Or do you just hear lawyer Trump and you agree?

Perhaps this is where you are coming from: https://thehill.com/opinion/judiciary/403072-did-president-trump-violate-campaign-finance-laws

Problem is that's before Pecker firmed up and framed the third-party corporate contribution, motive, and intent. Think people might believe that Trump put this plan in place in 2015 and would have done anything in October of 2016 NOT to get hit will another Billy Bush scandal? Good luck with the jury on that.

And so capping it off is US News sort of putting Summer Alan Dershowitz on the outs as the Pecker development rose up..... https://www.usnews.com/news/national-news/articles/2018-12-13/michael-cohen-ami-and-the-legal-peril-facing-donald-trump

Doesn't matter. It ain't the indictment, it's the impeachment that matters and as Spock would say, this crime or lack thereof is just "Sauce for the Goose," This is just the foundation for the Russian deluge that will go on top for Congress to consider. If Trump lasts that long.

New Jersey Democrats’ Diabolical Gerrymandering Scheme Is an Affront to Democracy
By MARK JOSEPH STERN

https://slate.com/news-and-politics/2018/12/new-jersey-gerrymandering-plan-bad.html

Yup, Democrats gerrymander too. Gerrymandering has been commonly done by both sides. Look at any deep blue state (California, NJ, Maryland etc) in 2018 and the % of R seats is always much lower than the % of R popular vote. Just like in Texas, Georgia, etc. but with the opposite party. Gerrymandering has pretty much become part of the US political system at this point.

Meanwhile - NJT wants $300M out of FEMA

https://www.nj.com/politics/2018/12/nj-transit-asks-trump-wheres-the-300m-you-owe-us-for-sandy-damage.html

So NJ wants to thumb their nose in the face of Federal Law by not cooperating with ICE and proudly declaring themselves a sanctuary state, yet are shocked that the feds don't cooperate.

Totally Trumps fault despie - NJ Transit trains remained in Kearny yards during Sandy even though plan called for moving equipment

https://www.nj.com/hudson/index.ssf/2013/08/post_361.html

1, Hurricane Sandy happened while Chris Christie was your governor.
- Christie did a absolutely HORRIBLE job at allocating the funds properly and favorably chose the wealthy in NJ to receive the funds first, leaving the average NJ citizen without any money for repairs or stuck in the government black hole in an attempt to claim said money. People I know personally affected by the storm are STILL trying to get the money they were promised.

2, More importantly - while all of this was happening, Barack Obama was president and had 5 years to handle this with the previous governor. Yet, neither party worked together to get it done properly.

Now, all of the sudden, the money which the previous governor and president had 5 YEARS to hand out, is Trumps problem? He's the cause for all of this now?

will the last one of you out of NJ please take the flag..

You do realize these indictments they're laying down are silly right? Flynn was told by the FBI not to bring a lawyer because they made it sound like it was a friendly chat. First the FBI said he didn't lie then Mueller came along later on and decided to go after him. There's a judge looking at the case as we speak. I hope he throws the plea deal out and dismisses the case. Still where's the Russian collusion? Talking to a Russian is not illegal. The guy lost everything over that. There's something wrong with people who think lives should be ruined over dumb crap like that. Trump Jr had a brief meeting with a Russian, nothing came of it. Now they say he may have lied. Again where's the Russia collusion to tamper the election? Why was it ok for Hillary and her team to obstruct justice and lie but Mueller is going after people for petty nonsense... There's no such thing as equal justice when it comes to the Democrats. And you liberals come on here saying forget about the past, well no... It's not a fair system. You have a former FEC director saying Trump didn't commit a campaign finance law violation, because Trump is a brand. Much like a Hollywood starlet would pay someone off to protect their name, you could argue Trump did the same thing and would have had he not been running for President. John Edwards actually used campaign donations to pay off someone and his case got dismissed. So please tell me where are all these really bad crimes Trump has committed. There aren't any. If he did something really bad I'd be on board with impeachment. I'm sure JR would be too. So no I wouldn't follow Trump off a cliff. That's a figment of your imagination.

Did you read the article, skip?

"In separate legislation providing $60 million for Sandy relief, federal lawmakers said FEMA would cover 90 percent of the costs of hurricane-related damage, with state and local agencies responsible for the remaining 10 percent.

For NJ Transit, that put the federal government on the hook for $728 million of the $809 million damage assessment. The deal was that Federal Transit Administration would pay the costs until its allocation ran out, and FEMA would cover the rest.

The transit agency ponied up $445 million. FEMA suggested that NJ Transit also use $188 million in federal transit funds earmarked for projects to protect against future storms to help pay the damage from the last one. NJ Transit said no.

That left FEMA on the hook for about $283 million.

After the federal transit funding ran out, NJ Transit asked FEMA to start paying the bills. That was in December 2016."

So, Trump was President-Elect and Obama was already on his way out the door when the initial request for FEMA to start making their statutorily required payments was made. It was probably six months into Trump's term when some bureaucrat at FEMA even LOOKED at the request... so, this doesn't have anything to do with Obama or Chris Christie. Just Trump being Trump...

Re: Current Events Thread

"Gerrymandering has pretty much become part of the US political system at this point."

THAT is tyranny, in my book.

Isn't the burden of ALL natural disasters typically put on the federal taxpayer? Don't tell me North Carolina taxpayers are paying for all the damages in your state due to Hurricane Florence, are they?

Honest question Metsman, do you consider yourself a well read and well informed person? In this thread you've posted 5 links, 4 of them from foxnews.com. In the North Korea/Immigration thread, you posted foxnews.com links over 35 times. I'm not even sure you posted any links from any other site.

It makes sense for you to go to their website because you know you're going to see the news you want to see. Although don't you think it's a little strange that without doing serious digging on their website, you can't find an article that questions the presidents actions or discusses the possible implications of the investigations circling him?

The funniest part is that Trump has you convinced that ratings = truth. Look at how often you bring up ratings when talking about news networks. Is it that strange that we elected a president that had every word defended by, and was completely supported by the network with the higher ratings?

Reasonable Reasonable

Your right Ian Inre-read it. There was maybe a month where Obama could have done something.

This issue started in Dec 2016.

• 2012: Federal transportation amendment (written by Menendez) notes that FTA was the primary funder of transit disaster recovery, with FEMA picking up the tab if FTA funding ran out.
• 2012-2016: Federal funding via FTA paid recovery bills for NJT until late 2016.
• When funding ran low, FEMA said, "How about you take the federal money we're giving you to protect against FUTURE damage, and use THAT to pay recovery?" NJT said no, we need that for what it was given for.
• Dec 2016: State of NJ appealed to FEMA to start paying the bills.
• April 2017: FEMA denied the request
• June 2017: State of NJ appealed
• May 2018: FEMA denies appeal, says "FTA was supposed to pay for all of this" (they were not)
• Aug 2018: After the statute being pointed out to them, FEMA amends the denial to say it made a 'discretionary decision' that FTA was supposed to pay for all of this ("Screw you, we decided to ignore that statute")

FEMA under Obama asked NJ to use disaster prevention funding for recovery efforts. Trump shut it down

grow up liberty, nothing fake about it, Dershowitz renders a spot on correct legal analysis.

He's right in what he says. Nothing illegal in it even though it looks bad.

Reasonable if you can't come to a logical conclusion that the Mueller investigation is nothing but a smear campaign, then IDK what to tell you. They've had 2 years to produce evidence Trump colluded with Russia and their evidence is of something else, that he paid off two porn stars and no one can seem to agree whether it was a campaign finance violation or not. If John Edwards case got dismissed and he actually used campaign funds, then Trump isn't facing anything. Come up with something real for crying out loud.... This is what you liberals want to impeach a President over? I didn't think Clinton should be impeached either. So I'm not towing any party line here. This is all politics as usual. Both parties trying to sabotage each other. Unless something substantial comes out, you're not coming close to a 2/3 vote in the Senate.

Now you look at the convictions Mueller got.... Manafort... Convicted of crimes from a decade ago that had nothing to do with Trump... Cohen... Caught evading taxes but pleads to campaign finance violations to get out of hefty jail time... Everyone else, caught in perjury traps for misspeaking over things that weren't crimes to begin with. Give me a break....

I'd like to see you liberals prove why Fox is fake news. I won't hold my breath. I've seen anchors on Fox say they don't agree with some of what Trump does especially with Twitter. I don't agree with everything he does either. I posted something from the daily caller 6 hours ago by the way.... I'm at work when I post usually. I don't have time to be looking around at a million different sites to appease your wanting of diversity in articles...
