Thought I'd start a new thread to catch some of the recent current events and issues we all face. I'll start off with the discussion about banning the traditional Christmastime song "Baby It's cold Outside". I think this is a great song and those who are saying it's stalker-like or misogynist or predatory are off the mark. Can't we all just enjoy a simple fun tune like this without getting all wrapped up in knots? Do we have to find offense in everything these days?

It's definitely sad. I hate Christmas music, retail for years has ruined that, but to go to this level is absurd. It's complaining to complain. It really is a mental illness at this point. EVERYTHING must be instantly escalated into high drama, fear-mongering, I'm-right-you're-wrong, No-we-can't-civilly-disagree-because-THE-WORLD-is-at-stake, the country is ending, it's the end of the world, etc etc etc.....

It's very tiring dealing with mental midgets like this. Sheople who LIKE being told what to think, who LIKE not having to critically think for themselves, who like being a "part of the 'in' crowd (or what MSM tells them is the in crowd). Who savor group-think. Who can't handle being disagreed with, because it might make them question their own opinions and WE CAN'T HAVE THAT!!! I CAN'T BE WRONG!!! I am having trouble understanding how this thread has turned political like every other thread on here. Being this area is very conservative and I tend to have more liberal points of view I try not to go into political threads. Both sides have there own opinion about first amendment rights, the right for peaceful protest, and the right to choose the color of your Christmas tree. But this thread is about sensitivity to certain subjects in our culture now. That is a bipartisan issue. Liberals and conservatives alike are sensitive about their own topics. Just because I can understand people's concerns about the lyrics to songs (and that I am liberal) doesn't make me a snowflake......it makes me empathetic. I also feel that people can be too sensitive about things whether it is because they are old so no longer culturally appropriate or they look too deep into the meaning of the words.
I heard someone say recently they would not let her daughter watch The Little Mermaid because Ariel gave up her voice for a man. I see it that some would do anything for love. Different opinions, different approach, our daughters will both probably grow up just fine, and we are entitled to our own opinions as long as we are not hurting anyone else.

Today we have Comey meets Congress, specifically Republicans, specifically behind closed doors, even though Comey demanded a public hearing, they couldn't take the heat, could not stand the sunlight.

Then we have The Manafort Papers as Mueller details the lies leading him to drop Manafort's plea deal. There may be a new deal, perhaps not. The document will probably not be sealed and may or may not be heavily redacted in the right places. First, Mueller may want to assure Trump that he's got some lies in his written answers and Mueller knows. Trump has been talking to Manafort, so Mueller loses nothing to Trump by allowing those things to go public. We will see, but it will shed more light on investigation.

Compared to other current events, it’s a nit

Think Baby it’s cold ban was 3 radio stations, one brought it back already, another is about to, listener demand, and the third is under heavy listener rebuke. To me, that’s a good thing and what PC is all about. Being polite, listening, and trying to take the path of least offense. This time, after some discussion, it seems the song is apropos for the time and not that nasty for our time —-most people love it and so we party on.

Now if I could only get those Blue Oyster Cult lyrics out of my mind. Loved em from the beginning, actually read the lyrics a couple years ago and concluded I was whacked to listen to that crap. Telling me it was sarcasm or humor didn’t help.

Review is always a good thing so I kept the albums :-)

Why does the 2nd amendment not rate as high a fundamental right like the 1st, 4th and 5th amendments do? Why is it ok to keep chopping away at it like it doesn't really matter?


Third Circuit: Second Amendment is a Second Rate Right

The two majority judges followed the trend of other Circuits where the Second Amendment is being degraded and reduced to second-rate status. Only a month ago, the First Circuit ruled the Second Amendment does not apply outside of the home.

The rogue Circuits are able to do this because the Supreme Court has been refusing to hear Second Amendment cases for nearly a decade. The Supreme Court only hears a limited number of cases. They are not required to hear all cases.

Some Circuit courts are gutting the Second Amendment by claiming it is not really a right. Rather, they say, it is a privilege the government may regulate if the government thinks it might do some good to regulate it. These Jurists seem embarrassed by the Second Amendment. They seem to believe their job is to limit it as much as possible, rather than to protect it as a fundamental right.

Looking back at the past year and whatever, which one of us posted “facts”, because facts are our friends, and then jumped directly to a conclusion that Trump and company colluded with the Russians to win the election? Hint: It wasn’t me. Which also means that one of us isn’t following their own advice.

So I’ll say it again, because I guess saying it a hundred times isn’t enough, that only when the investigation concludes will any of us know if the original accusations prove true. So every time you present a “fact” then jump directly to a conclusion I am certain that someone here will point it out and you’ll still argue about it...

At first, I detailed how Trump built his business on top of Russian investment and sales and how he, like much of his top administration, is deeply beholden to Russia not just to selling some things, but to their lifetime careers. Hanging with the like of Sater is like hanging with Don Corleone and not expecting to "do a favor.". Trump and his son have told us the Russians are worth billions to them, the only bank doing business with him owns the largest Russian money laundering fines, and just got raided again in Germany for laundering investigation, again.

That was before the election and, now thanks to recent disclosure, continued during the election. Many of those investments remain today as a historical and present source of potential compromise.

Did Trump collude. Was he compromised. No facts directly say that. Is he dirty with the Russians. All fingers point to him being in a position to be beholden based on his, and his son's, own words, tax filings and other facts.

During the election, there were all sorts of crimes. The indictments, guilty pleas, and people in jail speak to that. Has Russian collusion been proved: of course not. What we do know is:

- much outreach from Russia to team Trump and vice-versa
- a number of face-to-face meetings between Russians, Russian surrogates (Saudi's), and Team Trump
- an arrested Russian spy infiltrating the NRA and other Republicans
- Trump family members and others trying to set up secret communication backchannels from Team Trump to mother Russia
- Trump family business dealings in Russia held secret from the American public, while Trump lied about his dealings as described by Trump himself.
- seeming Team Trump fore-knowledge of specific email releases
- Trump publc request to hack the emails which apparently, timing wise, was listened to, joke or not, you be the judge.
- a situation where, during the election, Putin knew Trump lied about his business dealings ongoing in Russia and therefore Putin was in position to tank the election for Trump at any time by exposing these lies.

There's more, but that's enough for now. So no collusion for sure, but here we have a group of people who frequently flaunted the law having many contacts with Russians while their leader, Trump, is indebted to Russia for his very existence,

So, to say, "only when the investigation concludes will any of us know if the original accusations prove true" is painfully true. But if one can't even entertain the possibility based on the plausibility of their history, their character, and their past deeds, well, that's one way to go.

And for the memos, if you can't read them and come to any conclusions re: campaign finance violations at minimum, instead concluding: "Can’t," I would say you have your head in the sand.

As to the rest, feel free to argue away. That's why we have forums. And you seem a bit testy today so swing away Merrill, swing away.

If they would accept that fact, and moderate themselves towards the center, towards a more JFK-democrat party, they could get rid of him, but they just keep doubling and tripling-down on the lunacy. I have changed rarely a fact I have issued re: Russia. I have summarized above the tedious facts I have provided over the years starting with Trump's primary win, again, as follows:

How Trump built his business on top of Russian investment and sales.
How he, like much of his top administration, is deeply financially beholden to Russia.
How Don hangs with Russian mobsters

All taking place before the election, although now proven to continue during the election, but many column inches needed to describe.

During and after the election, I added all the stupid Trump policies (most of them), and filled many a page especially as HLer's rallied around separation of families because they asked for asylum. During the election, I also covered all sorts of actual real-life crimes that many HLers still discount, as well as covering the Trump family of criminals and Russian sympathizers. The indictments, guilty pleas, and people in jail pretty much speak to the reality of my Rebecka suggested MSM-authored delusions. I've got people in jail, Rebecka has an opinion.

All along, if asked has Russian collusion been proved, I have answered, of course not, and provided a list of interesting occurrences:

- much outreach from Russia to team Trump and vice-versa
- a number of face-to-face meetings between Russians, Russian surrogates (Saudi's), and Team Trump
- an arrested Russian spy infiltrating the NRA and other Republicans
- Trump family members and others trying to set up secret communication backchannels from Team Trump to mother Russia
- Trump family business dealings in Russia held secret from the American public, while Trump lied about his dealings as described by Trump himself.
- seeming Team Trump fore-knowledge of specific email releases
- Trump public request to hack the emails which apparently, timing wise, was listened to, joke or not, you be the judge.
- a situation where, during the election, Putin knew Trump lied about his business dealings ongoing in Russia and therefore Putin was in position to tank the election for Trump at any time by exposing these lies.

Now we have the government listing two indictable felonies where the President is implicated not only by his long-serving personal lawyer, but now also, in court, the Government. Sure, it's alleged, but the Government has tipped it's hand saying it has the facts.

They will undoubtedly not indict a sitting President. It is up to the American people and Congress to decide his fate.

And anything Russia has been redacted form the memos; there are pages and pages of redactions that obviously point to Russia, and IMO it's a pretty strong bet that Muller will not come a cropper in all of this and has the goods of this guy. Can't imagine he's come this far with a nothing burger. He certainly has pages and pages redacted on the subject already. If it was innocence, why redact? Just like if these guys weren't guilty of something far worse, why did they take the guilty plea and plea bargain escape? But we don't know that....yet. And saying "no collusion proven" is as stupid as saying "he colluded."

It's a long way to getting enough Republicans on board and folks here may never get there. But I am hopeful, for the good of the country and the office of the President, that Trump sees the light and takes a long walk into that dark night. In which case, we may not know for a few decades or so what really happened. And that's OK with me too.

And naysayers? They has their opinions, and in the face of two felonies, their beliefs that the news is fake, the government corrupt and the only truth they have is what they believe is the truth. Well, bully for them.

There certainly exists a group of unelected government and military officials who are employed term after term who effect national policy for sure - look at Peter strzok or John Brennan. Now how much they effect policy is to be determined. There are thousands of career employees at various levels of government that are civil service that have broad discretion in how they do their jobs - don’t agree with a policy? Follow the regulations to the letter and slow roll things to a standstill. This dosent just occur at the federal level.

It’s still amazingly low.

The Presidential campaign was $2.4B. Clinton outspent Trump 2:1 somewhat indicating how Trump received a lot of free advertising based on his “newsworthiness.” And therein lies the fly in the ointment. Is the ad spend the important part OR is the ad reach the important part.

There’s no way to spin this beyond the formal spin statement that it did not affect the election. However, that’s our patriotic urban legend. No one really knows the effect of the meddling or the effect of the campaign finance violations by the President. Whatever that means, it certainly means we really don’t know. Independent of the amount that Americans spent or the number of clicks, do you really feel that any amount spent by an adversary foreign power, posing as Americans, is OK? Does the meager amount they spent overshadow the fact they were pretending to be American while lying through their teeth on the facts in order to get us excited?

No matter how much Americans poison Americans with spin, do you equate that, to anything spent by a foreign adversary to spin your mind with lies? Especially when you can’t measure it and when it can plant fake seeds that virally spread by real Americans that you can’t measure either?

How much one-world-order can you get than world-wide equal rights to spread fake news anonymously under cover of the American flag. I mean it’s bad enough that many believe most news sources are fake, our government is a complete fraud, but now they, of the big they, are not even American.

That said, some amazing numbers showing the Russians are screwing with us for an amazingly low price. And even if you give them credit for stealing low handing fruit via sensationalism using, from your article “ incendiary, divisive, eye-drawing content about polarizing issues, it likely was able to squeeze” more belief per buck, that’s still a big buck difference.

Question is how much is enough to change the outcome? And we don't know that either.

However, that’s only part of the story and you believe that partial assumptions do not show the big picture: We need to know the corresponding reach and re-share rates beyond the 126M people (that includes JR's 500 different times :>) ) that Facebook reached.

Other Russian attempts were out there too, like organizing rallies, paying for participation, and doing other tasks. One guy got paid to put a cage on a truck for lock-her-up, another to play prison-suited Clinton. Much more to learn here by all of us.

Dball --- They will probably never indict a sitting President, and certainly not for campaign violations. However, when he leaves the Presidency, NY and perhaps the Southern District will come down on him, his businesses, and his foundation like a ton of bricks.

Impeachment is a perception and Trump's entire "legal' effort has been dedicated to that cause. Certainly his efforts have little to do with the law. Mueller has been mostly silent and has not divulged more than a peek at his Russian evidence. He needs to be able to turn 50% or so of Republican Senators to win an impeachment. The House is a far easier impeachment row to hoe.

IMO, Mueller does not want that, what he wants is to show overwhelming evidence to Congress, sealed, behind closed doors, that will lead Senators to convince Trump it's over and have him slink away into that good night, perhaps saving his business and family in the offing.

I agree with this. But the other side is just as bad (much worse actually): condemning and postulating based on HOPES and conjecture instead of actual facts. Guilty until proven innocent, if you will. And not just Trump- look at the Kavanaugh hearing fiasco!

Russia for example: there is no evidence. Not yet anyway. Even Comey/Mueller has said hasn't found any evidence of so-called "Russian collusion". Yet pages and pages and hours and hours (many days at this point. Weeks?) of "news" has been done on that story. It's not journalism, the MSM has turned into the National Enquirer.

If there is actually evidence- indisputable facts- that prove Trump colluded with the Russians to affect the election, I'd be one of the people calling for impeachment. Altho if they haven't found anything by this point, I'm also fine with not spending anymore taxpayer money on what I see as a witch hunt, based on the FACT that NO convincing evidence has come to light, in 2 years. The only "russian collusion" I can see is the DNC paying to have the "russian dossier" created in an effort to affect the election (and that was after the GOP tried todo the same thing, to keep Trump from being able to be the nominee)

I find it amazing that team-conservative who spent much more time and money to catch a guy lying about a legitimate extramarital bj at an investigative cost of $12M per year for like $70M over the 6-years of different investigations having an issue with the cost and time of the Mueller investigation. For it's short time, Mueller has 31 indictments on the table, 7 guilty pleas, and a few in jail. Russians, Russian companies, and a lawyer.... have been indicted.

The Mueller investigation is profitable; it has seized and turned over to the Treasury between $30M - $40M in Manafort dollars. Haven't gotten to the Cohen dollars yet. So, you are making money, be happier.

Just wait till we start seizing the Don's assets. And he's got one huge asset.

That said, chances are they won't indict a sitting President. And campaign finance violations are extremely hard to prove. Even if they have the Don on tape. You do know that, right, Mets, they have him on tape ordering Cohen to do the deed.

That said, impeachment is the only way to make the Don pay for his crimes of cheating in the election and stealing the Presidency. But this one is still not enough by itself given that Hatch, Thune, Grassley, Kennedy, and McCarthy, for example,have all lined up already, before seeing the facts, to blindly support Trump and say there is nothing there, Cohen is a liar, OR it's the Democrats.

Hatch said: “The Democrats will do anything to hurt this president" No, boys, it's the SDNY making the allegations; it's YOUR justice department. You don't have a clue what party the individuals involved might belong to. They DO belong to the team that believes in the rule of law though. How about you? Turn in your membership yet?

For Clinton, Hatch said: "…..it cannot tolerate one who makes a mistake and then breaks the law to cover it up. Any other citizen would be prosecuted for these crimes.” Yeah, belly up to the bar on that one Dude.

Other excuses are "he's new, we all make mistakes," and "Cohen is of low moral fiber and can not be believed." Uh.....there's corroborating evidence, as noted in the filing.....Trump on tape.... Whatever....

Don't matter anyway. Read what entails campaign finance contribution violations. Even if it came out of his own pocket, if it was used to further your cause in an election campaign, that's against the law.

IOW, if he spent money for the purpose of getting elected, as in hushing some lovers from going public during or just before the election, it's a campaign contribution. The fact that Cohen paid, or worse yet, a corporation paid, just makes it worse.

• ⁠2012-2016: Federal funding via FTA paid recovery bills for NJT until late 2016.
• ⁠When funding ran low, FEMA said, "How about you take the federal money we're giving you to protect against FUTURE damage, and use THAT to pay recovery?" NJT said no, we need that for what it was given for.
• ⁠Dec 2016: State of NJ appealed to FEMA to start paying the bills.
• ⁠April 2017: FEMA denied the request
• ⁠June 2017: State of NJ appealed
• ⁠May 2018: FEMA denies appeal, says "FTA was supposed to pay for all of this" (they were not)

It seems they did, just took a while to put all the legal pieces together.

ACA was passed, and the Individual Mandate was stated as being a critical linchpin to the ACA overall (not severable from the rest). The tax for not purchasing a plan was a separate section of the law (triggered by not purchasing a plan). SCOTUS held that the Individual Mandate was unconstitutional by itself, but legal because it triggered a separate tax.

Congress then eliminated the tax last year. Without a tax trigger propping it up, the Individual Mandate is (again) ruled unconstitutional - just like SCOTUS did. Since it’s not severable from the rest of the ACA, the whole thing should get tossed.

The tax was the weakest link in the ACA, and without it, the act no longer holds together.

Got it. Great, means SS and EUI are safe for now. So, all they have to do is force everyone to pay health insurance taxes which we can use to buy insurance, or not (but you lose the money) and it will all be well, basically unchanged, and a tax again. Maybe CUT TAXES at the same time by removing the Corporate Tax break on providing health insurance to employees. I'm tired of paying that anyway. I do understand Dershowitz's view but was waiting for him to make the same statements now that the Pecker confession is on the table. He hasn't to the best of my ability to find out.

Unfortunately, Cohen and Pecker's AMI made/accepted these payments muddying up Dershowitz's claims. The amounts are in excess of corporate contributions, that is a crime. Cohen, being an agent of the Trump campaign, can not accept these contributions, another crime.

Campaign Finance Law is byzantine and unusual. For example, on this one, ignorance of the law IS an excuse. You must be knowing and willful about breaking the law. I guess they wrote the law figuring no one can follow the law honestly and they didn't want to convict everyone on ignorance.

In this case, Trump is not ignorant of the law and is on record as saying that, starting with his expert knowledge and opinion on the John Edwards case. Subsequent meetings with Pecker and Cohen on the matter, trying to hide the money, tying to hid his involvement, phone calls directing Cohen --- all look bad.

Also, there has to be a provable, publicly provable, intent to sway an election. Thus John Edwards slipped the noose saying he did it not for the election but to save his dying wife the agony. They could not prove differently.

In this case, the timing for Trump is terrible, weeks before the election and weeks after Billy Bush in one case. A game plan constructed in 2015. Pecker on record saying he made the payments, with Trump's concurrence, so Trump could win the election. Again, does not sound good for the President.

So it isn't the amounts or the fact that the President paid hush money, Dershowitz's main points. It isn't that paying someone off is illegal, it's the knowledge of the wrongdoing and the intent of said payoffs that will be the issue for Trump. A dead banger no brainer: NO. Dershowitz's no problem, not illegal: not bloody likely.

But until we hear post Pecker Dershowitz, I give the guy a chance to redeem himself against this new information in that his arguments seem to be made before Pecker's statements. Chances are Trump won't be indicted, the real court is pubic opinion and Congress's red line for "high crimes and misdemeanors." Given 17 different investigations underway at the State and Federal level against every Trump organization imaginable: his charity foundation is a personal honeypot, his company evades taxes and emoluments, his campaign is in jail, his inauguration committee"lost" millions, his family has helped, his administration is crooked, and that's before we use the word Russians.

I would rather public corporations (who have accountability to shareholders) decide where to spend money than the federal government (for whom accountability is a 4 letter word).

You also realize that stock buybacks are different than paying back debt, right? Not that either is bad, but it’s a sign that the company thinks the best place for their money is in their own equity. Investing in themselves, so to speak. Not really a sign that they think the future is bad (in which case you’d think they’d want to keep their assets in cash).

Finally, I can pick and choose what companies to invest in. If I want to choose companies that pay dividends or increase share value by purchasing back their own stock, I can. I can’t say the same for Federal spending, which may or may not benefit me at all depending on how/where they choose to spend my money (goes back to that whole accountability thing).

It used to be lying to the FBI was a slam dunk crime. In Trumplemania where anyone looking at Trump in a negative light has the mark 666 on their forehead, the intelligence community comes under fire for being totally evil, inept, and part of some weird conspiracy out to get the Don. First, the FBI questioned Flynn in their duties for the Russia Investigation. Should they have not interviewed the guy who sat next to Putin? Does Mets think he deserved a pass since we already knew what he did? He lied. Perjury trap: really, for this guy, a seasoned General, Security Expert, and Federal Government sort of guy? He willingly, without coercion, pled guilty to the lie basically stopping prosecution on his other nefarious deeds of which who knows what all they were except that the FBI does, so how many other deeper and richer crimes did Flynn escape the gallows with his plea? And Mets: that's how law enforcement climbs the ladder to get more and bigger fish. Already, on the more side, two of Flynn's buddies just got indicted. Wonder how the FBI got that info. Getting to unspeakable yet?

Flynn pled guilty to two conversations with the Russian Kislyak, specifically he lied about asking for Russia constraint in their response to Obama’s sanctions over the 2016 election meddling, Flynn pretended not to remember Kislyak's response (which was no retaliation since that would hurt Trump's election chances). Flynn also noted his report on this meeting to a “senior official with the Presidential Transition Team" linking another Trump senior staff member yet to be named.

I dunno, doesn't that spell c o l l u s i o n? And asking Russia to do things while Obama is still President, that's another nothing burger for you? Not quite unspeakable yet?

For the second meeting with the Russians, Flynn lied about the UN Security Council Resolution condemning Israeli settlements. Flynn said that a Trump Transition Team senior official ordered Flynn to contact Russia to get them to vote no. Again, Flynn forgot the response which was no, we don't know the unnamed senior official on this one either, and, of course, he did this while Obama was President.

What do you call it when someone perverts our national agenda with a foreign party in order to win an election? Conspiracy? Unspeakable?

And then there's the illegal lobbyist work Flynn forgot to file for his work with Turkey, even while employed by Trump doing his foreign agenda work and while in the Trump administration. Sounds almost like a double agent. Good hiring Don.

The third charge against Flynn says he misrepresented the extent of his work on behalf of the Turkish government through his firm, the Flynn Intel Group.

I don't think this plea is a nothing burger. I think Flynn, as Mueller has indicated, has been a wealth of information and corroboration of crimes. And if we get the bigger fish, the plea will have been worth it IMO.

He asked Flynn in FBI correced him, no. Was he guilty; yes. He basically had Flynn blow up the defense and Team Twitter spins. Later, the defense lawyers took it on the chin saying theirs was a bonehead move. The judge saw something else that told him Mueller was too lenient, IMO. He walked back the treason line since it was stupid and technically impossible. He went with traitor to the country instead and said even if Flynn confessed more wrongdoings, there could be jail time. But take 90 days and give it a try.

So IMO, the judge was shocked that a person at Flynn’s level could stoop so low, but also that Mueller was responded with too much leniency.

It’s also a message to Don, don’t go to court.

One year after he pleaded guilty to lying to the FBI, there is still no evidence that he is a traitor.

Remember when Michael Flynn was a traitor? It was early 2017. Democrats were still stinging from their defeat at the hands of Donald Trump. Every day, it seemed, brought news of another contact between Trumpworld and Russia.

So how did Washington get sucked into believing that Michael Flynn had betrayed his country? Part of it, surely, is guilt by association; the proposition that Trump wants to appease Russia

The evidence that Flynn was acting on behalf of Russia, however, is lacking. Yes, he attended a gala for Russia’s propaganda network, RT, in 2015 before joining the Trump campaign. But during the transition, as incoming national security adviser, Flynn would have been expected to have contacts with Russia. It was Flynn’s concealment of his communications that attracted the FBI’s interest.

It remains a mystery why Flynn, a man with a reputation for integrity and valor as both an officer and government official, would lie. Perhaps it was untoward, but there is nothing unusual about an incoming national security adviser contacting foreign diplomats during the presidential transition.

In no other era would these be grounds for treating a national security adviser like a member of a crime family. And yet that is exactly what the FBI did. On Jan. 24, 2017, then-Deputy FBI Director Andrew McCabe sent agents to discuss the phone call with Flynn without letting him know that he was being investigated. McCabe himself urged Flynn not to have a lawyer present, according to recent court filings. The agents interviewing Flynn knew exactly what he had said to Kislyak — they had a transcript of the call. The purpose of the interview was to try to catch Flynn in a lie.

What was the FBI investigating? The closest Congress has gotten to answering that question is in the report of the House Intelligence Committee, which says it received three conflicting responses.

One is that the FBI was investigating a possible violation of the Logan Act. This law, which dates to 1799 and makes it illegal for private citizens to conduct unauthorized negotiations with foreign powers, has never been successfully prosecuted. If this were what the Justice Department was investigating, it would at the very least be an abuse of prosecutorial discretion. Do Democrats want the Trump administration investigating John Kerry’s recent conversations with European and Iranian diplomats about the 2015 nuclear deal?

The other explanations are equally troubling. One is that the FBI continued its counterintelligence probe into Flynn even after its director wanted to end it. The other is that the FBI had an obligation to investigate Flynn’s “potentially misleading statements” to Vice President Mike Pence.

If that’s true, Americans might want to ask themselves if they want the FBI to investigate senior White House staff for misleading their colleagues. If this is the case, the current crime wave in official Washington dates to the late 18th century.

None of this is an excuse for Flynn. Lying to FBI agents is a serious matter. And not only did he lie about Russia, he also failed to register as a foreign agent for the government of Turkey, a crime that two of his former associates have now been charged with (Flynn has not).

But the context of a lie also matters. Nearly two years after the FBI trapped Flynn, the crime the Justice Department was investigating remains unknown. If it turns out that the reason Flynn was a target is as flimsy as violating the Logan Act or not being candid with his colleagues, then that itself is a scandal. The FBI’s independence is not a license to interfere in American politics.

Let's be clear: I am all for bringing our kids home.

I am not as clear about ceding Syria to Assad, Putin, and Iran with a possible resurgence by ISIS. How many gifts are we giving Putin this Christmas? Giving him countries, dropping sanctions, being soft on Ukraine and the recent Russian naval attack, and more, the Russian Ambassador tweeted: "The US decision to pull its troops from #Syria creates good prospects for a political solution in that Arab country. " Guess they have a solution......

I am clear about stopping Russian aggression which has been on the uptick well before Trump but escalating and even being supported by Trump.

I am certainly not clear about running out on the Syrian rebels, Kurds and Christians in the country. The Kurds will fare badly as both Syria and Turkey pound the xyz out of them. Assad and Russia will crush the Syrian rebels. And once again, no one can trust the US to be there until the job is done.

I am not as clear about leaving Afghanistan although after 17 years, not sure we can go any more good or damage here. Actually not sure of Trump's plan which is probably the same position our President is in.

We need Presidents to fight for reform, but reform costs and everybody kicks the can down the road; this applies at the state level as we are well aware of. We don't need a 30 foot wall except for where the border is in towns where homes are on the border and they use the wall as a third wall for their outdoor kitchens. otherwise just 2 chain link fences, barbed wire, surveillance systems, drones, etc.
