Passing of Mr. Don Hendershot
The community has lost one of its kindest, most generous and certainly hardest working members with the peaceful passing of Mr. Hendershot last night. His
tireless support of Veteran causes and Hackettstown Tiger sports will always be remembered.
You will always be remembered for how much you gave to this community. You had a life well lived.
We love you Don!

Don Hendershot was a longtime and Dear Friend of ours. He was in reality Mr. American Legion of Hackettstown and as most of you know the Organizer each year of our Memorial Day Parade. When you say that someone was a true gentleman...that was Don. He has left a legacy to his town that he knew and loved and to all of us that had the honor to be in his company or to ever work along side this man. R.I.P. Don...you will be very much missed...
I got to know Don in the 1970s from playing in the men's softball league. I also worked with his wife (another nice person). And he was in charge of the Independence Township Committees (can't remember if it was planning or zoning) where I appeared. I lost but he was fair. I'll miss him.
Mr Hendershot was a great man who would do anything for anyone. He will be missed by many. Another great old time Hackettstown person gone. RIP Sir.
My heart just breaks at the passing of Mr. Hendershot. What an amazing man that made me laugh. My first deer meat was at the Hendershot’s. My deepest sympathy to the Hendershot family.

The name sounds familiar, but I just can't place him. In Independence and Hackettstown he did what?
Here is the obituary for Mr. Hendershot.

Don Hendershot lived just beyond the culvert where Grand Ave. becomes Rockport Rd (across from Allen Rd.). He was a longtime member of the American Legion Post on Willow Grove Str. in Hackettstown, where he and his wife Janette shopped for, prepped and worked the kitchen for the Legion's Friday Night dinners. He also organized, for may years, the town's Memorial Day Parade and ceremony at the cemetery. He was a true gentleman, and the town is poorer for his loss. He will be so very missed by those of us who knew and loved him.
So sorry to hear about his passing. It was an honor to be able to escort the veterans with my army truck! Will be greatly missed
RIP you were a great man and admired by many, thank you for all you have done
