Sick of A/C
Is anyone else sick of air conditioning? I can't take it anymore! I am looking forward to the cooler nights that are expected later this week.
We are fortunate to have a very shaded property and we can usually do without a/c most of the summer. Normally, when it cools down at night we open all of the windows and get the temperature as far down as we can. Then we close everything before leaving for work an usually return to <70 degrees. This definitely has not been the case this year. No window opening for awhile and the a/c running at night. Ugh!
Aside from the expense of so much electric, I'm just sick of not being able to air the house out.
I agree with you.
It’s pretty nice tonight! We have all our windows open.
I absolutely hate A/C and have had it on more his year than any other summer
Yes, worst summer in years! So humid and so much rain. It's like Mississippi. I feel like I wake up every morning and the windows are all steamed up. Triple yuck!
It's almost like this has been happening over the past few years. Wonder what might have causes it.
Winter lasts waaaaaaay too long so that’s a big NO from me.
Did we already forget how crappy May was?!
It has only been ~ 3 months of warm weather and the cold nights are already just around the corner.
I’m rooting for an endless Summer, although that slippery white garbage called snow is inevitable in just a few short months.

Thank God for AC. (actually, thank Willis Carrier.)
But yes- as much as I am thankful for and love AC in the hot & humid months, I would prefer to live somewhere where it is never needed, as fresh air (so long as it is NOT hot or humid) is always nicer.
There's always someone who can't take the heat. Ironically they will also start the it's too friggin cold thread. Deal with it. You live in NJ, we get 3 months of summer at best the rest of the year you can bundle up and shovel the white crap.
I agree with you Calico, but I am more sick of the humidity than the AC. I have the "luxury" of being off this summer, and what I actually do miss is the "free" AC that work provided my body during the day. Since I don't fully AC the house, just the bedroom, I found that this summer, being home, the constant heat and humidity was more wearing me down than anything.
I found myself sweating through at least 2-3 shirts a day if I did anything, and for a couple weeks, was doing almost a load of laundry a day, just for my clothes that I sweat through and the associated towels I used to try to keep the sweat at bay.
I did actually enjoy the respite of AC during the night in the bedroom, but am inclined to just run fans in the house during the day to keep the air flow moving.
As a younger man, early 90's, I did the "move to Arizona" thing. I will tell those of you that think that is the preferrable option- there are too many people packed in that small livable area called the Valley of the Sun, I never felt crowded like that here in NJ. And, the heat, forget that "dry heat" stuff. You ever put your head in an over while baking something? That is dry heat also, but not what you would want to live in.
Even at night, oppressive heat, and there it is for 7 months where you would wish you were back in NJ. Eventually, I moved back, and am glad for heat-cold-crappy snow and all that comes with it- I am here for as long as I can afford it!
haha Calico , we got you beat bad cause we don't even have any AC over here to turn on, haha . . . . . (oops . . . wait a min) . . . . . maybe we could bunk in on your couch for the next heat wave? ya think?
lol,
Not a big fan of air conditioning either until this summer when the air outside was so thick and humid you could cut it with a knife and the temps were high. I have bronchial asthma and if it were not for my inhaler and the air conditioning in our home.....I don't think I would have survived.
Lol Meister!
I think I get what Calico means..I for one need A/C due to this heat, but I hate being a slave to it to properly function. Nothing like cool fesh air.
I don't know how the Florida residents do it...
I have never liked air conditioning. I think it smells odd and I much prefer an open window with a natural breeze. I’m always cold though the heat really doesn’t bother me to begin with. I’d happily turn off the A/C in my all electric house and just save the money I’m throwing at JCPL. I could go on a nice vacation with it. Then there is my husband who loves the A/C and is very particular about the settings. I also don’t really use the A/C in my car for the same reason. I’d go so far as to buy a car without A/C, but we all know that the resale value on that would suck. I’m odd though.
LOL, yes Meister. I want it to work when I need it, but I don't want to have to need it day in and day out and especially all night long every single night.
Postive - I agree about Florida. I don't know how people stand it.
I agree about the A/C- we mainly hate the noise and to us it is still nothing like fresh air (and sunshine, what is that, may you ask?) !!
Hoping that we have a mild Fall, but not too mild that we cannot leave the windows open and the A/C off! Ps what was everyone electric bill last month? Ours topped over $150!
Would love to know how everyone else fared with that.
Joyful - PS - ditto on the A/C need for asthma- :) We would have keeled over if it were not for the A/C- such a necessary EVIL.
Positive and Calico, I and my Hub also wonder how Do people stand Florida's weather? We've visited FL occasionally, and we definitely know we would never enjoy living in Florida (or in the Carolinas either.) I guess we will pay NJ's high property taxes forever!! We enjoy the 4 Seasons also especially when they Happen the way they should!!
$235 last month for an 1,800 sf house. Of course, people are home all day, so the A/C runs all day.
Solar panels...$100/month, every month.
Loving today's weather! Enjoy it while it lasts. 90s and humid again next week?
2600 sq ft, A/C on for kitty & witty but set reasonably
Electric was $97 last month.
Two years go had the HVAC overhauled completely and sprung for the best unit that didn't require going to two stage. My bills used to be $160/$175 and sometimes even more. HVAC is paying for itself with the savings.
