PA priests molestation
Here we go again. The Catholic Church has more pedofiles than anyone can imagine. These poor kids and and their famailies who have been effected and have had their lives ruined. When will the church be held accountable for this atrocity? It is unreal that these people for the most part are sent to other places and not to prison. If the common person did this they would be put in prison for life or sentenced to death. Can someone please enlighten me on why these people are protected ?

Metsman Actually, this isn't "again". This report is new, but the events stretch back a number of years.
I heard the PA AG on the radio yesterday, and while he was not defending anybody, he did make it a point to point out that the numbers for all sexual abuse have gone up, across the board- they have been "prosecuting alot of this in recent years", he mentioned prison guards at female prisons, a university dean who was prosecuted for covering up sexual abuses, etc.
But yeah- the cover-up, the "moving bishops around" (part of the cover-up as well as to delay the legal proceedings to wait out the statute of limitations), is unforgivable. Much like the 2 major political parties, the church over the decades has actually become it's own worst enemy. What the real shame is, is that most people don't seem to be able to separate the church from the faith, which means they throw the baby out with the bathwater, unfortunately.

I'm an atheist, but was a long time member of the Catholic church. I found my fellow parishioners to be caring, giving and thoughtful people. Of course there were a few wackos, but statistically you just can't avoid that.
I loved being part of that community. It's just the whole believing-in-god part that keeps me away ;)

strangerdanger HKT Wife, the parishioners aren't sick people, nor are they hypocritical. They sincerely believe what they believe. They very possibly love God as much as you do.
It's the priests, bishops and on up the ladder, who have known about this and that have done little to nothing constructive to correct it for generations, who are the hypocrites. The hierarchy of the church has some serious soul searching to do.

Words cannot express the profound disappointment I experienced reading your stupid and mean spirited comments regarding Catholics and the few very bad priests. It goes without saying that all pedofiles and other sexual abusers are evil. The vast majority of Catholics and priests are strong believers in their faith and fine people.

SD, I agree with you 100%, altho I must say, at this point, I don't think the correct adjective is "unable", but UNWILLING. There's been WAY too much cover-up and self-protection, and for far too long. For whatever reason, the church doesn't WANT to do as you suggest.

Indy Too much self-righteousness going on inside those buildings. Sure the majority is fine, but as HKT wife has mentioned earlier I have had similar experiences with "the involved parishioners" and found them less truthful and very self righteous. One guy I know, his wife was cheating on him, then serving the communion in one of our local churches.
Some involved parishioners were very nice, and most people are good. As usual, a few rotten eggs ruin the whole truckload.

You know we solved most of this pretty easy in Scouting. Just have two parents minimum, at all times, with all kids. Never a single parent, single kid situation allowed.
FYI, and I'm not trying to take anything away from the seriousness of the issue, just a point of fact:

Matthew I've had dozens of private homes and businesses give me permission to metal detect on their grass. Never had a complaint.
Asked at several churches- and literally the hostile, aggressive, negative responses would make you think I am the devil himself. I should film it sometime and put the video on Youtube.
Kicker- IF there was a god, he wouldn't care if I searched the grass. I'm hurting no one and there are worse hobbies to have. I'm not sitting on a couch with a heroin needle in my arm. I am out in the sunshine, enjoying the day. Looking for lost history.
My neighbors have many acres. Been in their family since the early 1800's. They see me searching in my yard all the time, ask me what I have found, I have talked to them and showed them what I have found. They know 4-5 of the other neighbors down the street have let me search their yards.
They are highly religious going to church every Sunday, always talking about praying and community- but I guess only when it suits them.
Really disappointing how narrow minded the 'accepting' people are.
