Happy Tax Day

But, a question: didn't the USPS post offices used to stay open until midnight on tax day?
I finally managed to adjust my withholding so that I actually owe the government something and I wanted to wait until the last possible second to part with my cash.
I was planning to roll up at 10:00 tonight and get it postmarked... luckily, I called the P'burg branch just to check on their hours and I was told that they would be closing at 6pm tonight, their regular time. Good thing I called or the joke would have been on me as I stood in the parking lot with my return in my hand and Uncle Sam's foot in my butt, lol.

On Tax Day 2018, many U.S. post office holiday hours will be extended in consideration for last-minute tax filers. As the number of taxpayers who file electronically continues to rise, the number of people filing taxes last-minute has fallen, meaning that the post office has seen less of a necessity to offer extended Tax Day post office hours. This can make it tricky to know where you can file your federal and state taxes — especially when you need to find the nearest post office box.

Years ago, the Parsippany post office stayed open until midnight on tax day. I would call them up to see if they will remain open tonight. Their number is (973) 335-2587. Good luck!
Same here, ianimal. I’ve owed anywhere from $250-$1000 these past 5 years and I make them wait until the last minute. Heck, if they gave me even a 1% discount for filing early I’d do it. I’d save a couple bucks (it’s the principle for me) and the govt would get the money earlier so they could waste it sooner. Win-win. But that would make too much sense.

Because of issues with the website to pay and file electronically you qualify for a pain free extension to file.
All I know is that for the first time in over a decade, I will pay and pay.....I have been places in the tax code where angels fear to tread. I have gotten unbelievable answers like "just put it there and ask for forgiveness later," or "we don't do that form at ask-IRS."
But what I want to know is how the @#$#$#$ could someone mess up a government web site? I mean only a fool screws up an important web site on the eve that it is needed. Typical government hack implementation blunder done by dunderheads. I mean if this is the start of TrumpTax, it looks worse than ObamaCare but more expensive. Think of all the revenue lost due to waiting 24 extra hours to get all those trillions.
“And remember the $5 billion website, 5 billion we spent on a website, and to this day it doesn’t work. A $5 billion dollar website. I have so many websites. I have them all over the place. I hire people, they do a website. It costs me $3.”
Apparently now we know what you get for $3......
