Picnic areas in the area

Does anyone know of a picnic place where I can take my 5 relatives in their 50's and up to either grill of just have sandwiches on Memorial Day for a few hours after the parade Originally I was thinking about one of the brew pubs, but they are closed. We would like to have a couple of beers or wine without getting arrested and we don't want a full service restaurant. We want to keep it more in keeping with the observance of the holiday. Is the VFW open to the public that day?

The Knights of Columbus has free hamburgers, hot dogs and salad after the parade and I believe the American legion has something.

Hackelbarney or Stephens State Parks are great spots.
No alcohol permitted so you'd have to be discreet- solid colored plastic cups.
No one will hassle you.
Carry in carry out areas-
Grills and tables right by the water!

Yes to the above. Most if not all of the state parks have picnic areas. My recommendation would be to arrive as early as possible since many other people could have the same idea. At least that's been our experience.

Look for a place that has a roof on Monday...
