Cheap Activities for Small Children
I'd like some more ideas.
SO far we have been to Hackettstown and WC libraries,
Fed animals at Alstede Farm in Chester,
Gone to Rock Spring Park playground in Chester,
Visited Godlewski Farm for plants and flowers in Great Meadows,
Visited the fish at Hackettstown Pets,
And gone bowling in Mansfield
Any more ideas?
Walk thru Waterloo Village, Nature walk thru Riverfront and Stephens State Parks. Pack lunch eat outside. Make a scavenger hunt out of it.
The splash pad at Turkey Brook will be opening memorial day weekend I believe! It's free to enter and fun for big and small kids!
A friend just went to the Alpaca Farm right off of Kings Highway; you can feed them and even take one for a walk! I believe it's open on the weekends.
Turkey Brook is in Mount Olive/Budd Lake. Google Mount Playmore, it's the name of the play structure. And next to it the splash pad.
I second the splash pad at Turkey Brook and the park in general!
Check the BID for festivals in town but also keep your eye out for festivals on. neighboring towns. www.visitnj.org/events.
Rutherford Hall in Allamuchy often hosts mommy and me painting activities.
And you could always revisit farms for strawberry picking in a few weeks!
Have fun!
Go to the fish hatchery with them, there are nice displays and hands on activities for the kids. There is also the runway in front where the kids can feed the trout. There are also picnic tables to eat at or Hot Dog Johnny's is just down the road.
Chef It Up in Mount Olive has children's cooking classes, and sometimes they have pop-in activities for a small fee.
Also in Mount Olive (by Sam's Club) is Ticklez, an indoor play place--one price for all day play or Sky Zone, indoor trampoline park.
Other indoor play places--Clown Around (Gold Mine Road, behind the Lowe's in ITC); Riverside Kids (Hackettstown, shopping center across from Kohl's); Pump It Up--Randolph, off Rt. 10.
Ort Farms in Long Valley has animals to pet or feed, in addition to their regular farm activities.
Donaldson's Farm for strawberry picking.
Also, the Mount Olive Carnival is the week of July 12th-16th.
Kids under 16 don't need a fishing license, you could get inexpensive poles at Target or Wal*Mart and some bait at Hackettstown Pets, take them to Mountain Lake. My kids used to love getting meal worms and catching sunnies up there, you just throw them back. Bring something to wipe your hands on though :-)
There's also a swimming area, not sure if there's a fee.
Jenny Jump State Park has some great hiking trails.
There will be solar eclipse this year on Aug 21, so some star gazing might be fun.
Jenny Jump Observatory- you can find out about the programs here- http://www.njskylands.com/attractions-jenny-jump-observatory
And at Morris County College, there are programs at Longo planetarium- http://www.ccm.edu/planetarium
Centenary University Young Performers spring shows start this week- Mary 26- these are great because all/most of the actors are children- http://centenarystageco.org/ypw-festival-of-shows.php
Hope you have fun!
