Don't ask me why, but I'm hooked on Candace Olson. Maybe it's her height (I don't discriminate against tall women:-), or her design sense. OK it's all of the above and more:-P

We need help no one can make up their minds on anything. Also a very hard living room (very small) and rally no wall space. 13 ft wide at widest point then down to 9x9 ft for dinning area. total lenth of the whole space is 24 ft. Tried every thing to make it look good but it never really looks finished.

Candace is the best, she has the natural talent for room design.
They don't say how much she spends though, and the renderings at the end might not be what she started with, it seems to me that they make them after it's all done.

I know 2 different people who had rooms (a bathroon and a bedroom) done in their homes by design shows. Both were mortified at the shotty work. The one that had his bathroom done now has to rip out the walls because the pipes are leaking and causing mold. The one that had her bedroom done said that most everything was held together by velcro! How much can you really expect in a weekend's worth of work?

Divine Design does a great job, but I hear you pay for it (and A LOT). I don't think that one is a freebee.

Dear Genevieve:

I believe I am eligable for a room makeover as I have had HGTV on from 8:00 AM until 11:00Pm since it started. I love to decorate , and HGTV has NEVER done a makeover on one of their show in Buffalo, NY. My dilemma is my l/r, d/r arragnement. On the south living room wall is an ugly stone fireplace that goes to the ceiling. The north wall has an 8ft. arch to the d/r, a door to the kitchen, LOST SPACE. East wall has a large window. west wall is full, however with the kitchen entrance it is difficult to place furniture. HELP!!!! I have a sofa, loveseat and 2 chairs. I envision a white mantle and wood cabinets on either side of the fireplace with bookcases on top. Another problem, 42 inch TV in there too. Carpeting is gold as are chenille sofa ad love seat. Chairs are moss green. PLEASE come to Buffalo as a first for HGTV and help me. I am a young 63 yr old nana who loves a beautiful home!!!! I will make the crew homemade meatballs and sauce with homemade ravioli. If you can't come, could you please ask design on a dime, color splash or any other of your great programs to send a designer here?

Dear Genevieve,
I love waatching when you design a room.
Welcome back!!! My problem is that we has new
kitchen cabinets and counter tops put into
our kitchen about 16 months ago and still have
ugly kitchen carpet. And i do mean ugly. I am
on Disability and my husband is retired. Well
getting him off his recliner to do something
about the kitchen is a joke. Also we have this
monster buffet that a friend gave us. It matches nothing and takes up a whole wall.
Plus our main back entrance into the kitchen
is asliding glass door and figurreing out a
window treatment that can be closed at night
and when it is cold has been a nightmaare.
Please Help!!!!

OK. I've been thinking..... (yes I do think from time to time). Once upon a time, I did do some staging and minor renovations for "for sale by owners" which grew quickly, but I had to move here. Do you want quick, cheap room renovations? I'll throw you some ideas. The only time involved for you is CLEANING THE CLUTTER and some elbow grease!!! But it has since become a disoriented area that needs a new focus. I have been working for the past several years to update my home both outside and in so when the time comes I can put it on the market but I am running out of energy for the task - especially this room. We downsized and are empty nesters preparing for retirement. We would like to make our third floor an office/guest room. Right now it is the storage area for everything that would not fit anywhere else in the new house. There is no closet in this large room. I would like to have some storage space that is easily accessable. The room is approximately 20' X 12'6".

Because it is a third floor room, there are also 2 dormer windows to which the ceiling angles. In all there are 2 different ceiling angles within this room.

There is an additional adjoinging room that I think is plumbed for a bathroom, but right now it is just an empty room. It measures 7'6" X 7'6".

Hi Genevieve,
I hope for HELP!!! We, like a lot of other people are going through some economic hard times. We purchased a house to knock down to two walls and start over.
We hired an Architect and got great plans. Then the loan market changed and the loan we were told we had was denied. Well, to say we had to make a change in plans is an understatement. We had to move into this 1940s little beach cottage. Dark brown wood, tiny kitchen, (no dishwasher) one bath two bedrooms and another bedroom that opens to the now master bedroom.
The only thing we liked about the house was where it was. Beautiful San Clemente,CA. Waking distance to the Beach! My husband has been working every weekend to make this house livable for our daughter and I but he is one man and its a big job.The room I want help with is the master bedroom. It was once an out door patio. It's cold and it has no storage.I have most of my things still in a storage unit because I have no place to put them. This would be a great gift for my husband to have one less room to do.He really deserves it. Come meet him and see all the work he's done. PLEASE HELP!
It's late and we just welcomed in the new year(at least I did, he's a sleep from working so hard.)Well, Thanks in advance.

Hi Genevieve,
I watch so many design tv shows and get so many great ideas. Well I think their great ideas until I head to the home store and there I find myself looking at a gazillion colors......and then Im back to white again. My living room is white and have wanted to add color for so long but am scared that Ill mess it up. I wonder how do you mess up white walls. This is the one room that everyone sees when they come to my home it has not one good wall for furniture and three exits and a stair case, and a huge wall of windows.I struggle with even placing furniture to make the room flow. If theres one person in this world that can bring in color and make the room flow its YOU. Please Please I need your help.

Dear Genevieve,

My mom and dad have had our master bedroom empty for ten years!(except for some plants.) They have removed the carpeting and have revealed an ugly plywood floor. They have also removed the wallpaper and now the room sits waiting for a make-over.The master bedroom would be for me because my parents think that i will need the room for not only sleeping but studying and entertaining my friends.I live in a tiney room and need more space. My parents haven't even touched the room since then. They are not sure what to do with the space. They were thinking about having shiny wood flooring installed, and perhaps 1 or 2 more windows. They wanted to remove a closet in order to make more space in the bathroom adjacent.(they gutted that bathroom in order to replace it and make room for a tub instead of the tiny shower that used to be there. They havn't got that done yet either.)I have been waiting 6 years for this to happen. It would be spectacular to have it done. We need some help!

cbel - What they search for is "Free Room Makeover by Genevieve". Really. Try it. It actually brings up our very own HL site as number one above the real HGTV site. ;-)

Personally, I think we should give them our own version of advice. "Genie-Sleve of Hackleburg TV". (HBTV)

Genie-Sleve says:

1. M&M's. Decorate everything with M&M's so it keeps Hackleburg alive.

2. If you're afraid of color, face your fears by painting everything candy striped pink. Everything, not just the walls - be sure to paint your faces as well!

3. If you're afraid of placing your furniture, don't! Get all of your family members in the room, lift all the furniture well above your heads and simply hold it there. We'll be sending Yellow M&M over to tell you when you can put the furniture back down. Don't worry, Yellow will be over any day now.....

4. Anything you see on the show can be purchased at Second Time Around here in Hackleburg.

5. If the advice isn't to your liking, we understand. Remember it's not like you asked Genevieve from HGTV, this is Genie-Sleve from HBTV. ;-)

Funny, GC. I just googled like you said and it brought me here. Are there really so many people who aren't with it enough (I won't say smart enough) to read comments from othere before they post? And now I'm done with this. Let them post away and hope.

Dear Gen,

My favorite lap dance room is in need of remodeling. The decor is, shall I say, gaudy, and the mixture of black lights and strobe lights are very distracting. Plus the seat cushions have grown so soft that I sink into them and they probably need at least a good cleaning, if not replacing.

Thank you for your time and I hope that you can please help in this urgent manner!

Jan '09

Dear Reggie -

You are truly the only one worthy. You win!! All the other entries pale in comparison. (not to mention they all don't even know my name) There's only one problem, your gorgeous room is already designed around the cats. (and I can't blame you for loving the extra fluffy lamp) The only thing I can suggest is accessorizing your lamp with a tuna. A large tuna. A *very* large tuna. Not one of those plastic singing tuna either, you need the real thing. Change weekly. Possibly daily. (there are a few cats)

Your feline friendly Hackleburg pal,
Genie Sleeve

Scoresman -

If black lights and strobes are what distracts you in a lap dance room, you certainly have a disturbing problem. Unfortunately Genie Sleeve has no medical license and does not want to bring liability issues to HBTV. Please refer to the thread on urologists who have a little blue pill that will solve your urgency and soft "cushion" issue.

I am from Nashua NH and I am in desperate need for a kitchen make0ver. The main problem is that my furnace and hot water tank along with my washer and dryer are in my kitchen! Yes there is a door for the furnace and hot water tank but it is just hideous. In order to go from my kitchen to the bathroom you would have to walk through the living room since there is no way around the furnace. It's just not suppose to be there. I have brand new appliances, my husband is very handy and has done alot of work both inside and out. I just need a place for the furnace, hot water tank, and washer and dryer. I do have a partial basement that is dirt, but you do need to go outside through the bulkhead to get to it. Please Genevieve, I have been here for 6 years and I just can't take it anymore. Dear Genevieve,
I don't know how to begin this letter.
I will start by saying I love home design. I just wish I knew what to do in our home. We have a very small home, but cozy for my husband and I. Our house does not have much color other then the items in the house. Our wall colors are white, white and white. I am tired of white walls. Our house is only 28X56. We live by a lake. The lake is called Lake Perry. This house is a 2 bedroom 2 bath. Kitchen and dining room combo. A living room and a living room/man cave downstairs. Which is half the size of the entire house.
I am getting ready to paint. Do you paint a room one color and the ceiling another color? Is the trim to be painted to or can I paint it too. What is the best thing to do? If I could have a makeover I would really want to learn and help in the process.
I would really ease my husband thoughts if I had help.
We live in Kansas. Maybe to far for you to travel. Answering my questions would be fine. I would understand.
I would like to thank-you for your time.

You husband does not deserve to have a room so from now on it will be your room. The latest trends are to paint the wall one color and then have the ceiling another. I would suggest a nice bright burgandy on the walls and pink on the ceiling. The trim should be removed. As far as you learning to I would say stick to what you know best and don't get involved with decorating as this is a highly skilled area and best left to the professionals.
Also, I am afraid that you do not have the ability to pay attention to the finer detail. If you wonder how I know this read some of the other letters here and you would realise that this had nothing to do with Genevieve or a decorating show.

Yours truly,

Firefly

For a family room, I would suggest using a flourescent green color for the walls. Then just paint some red dabs all over the green paint with a small paintbrush. After that dries, take a sponge - dip it in some white paint and dab the walls in a circular motion until there are white circles everywhere. When that dries, pour half a can of pink paint onto a pillow. Throw the pillow at various places on the wall. Take the other half of the pink paint and with a paint brush, splatter it onto the ceiling. Be sure to cover your furniture before starting, and send us pics of the final result. Good Luck!

Dear Genevieve, I am a 47 year old widow with a 29 year old son that is married with two beautiful granddaughters and I have a ten year old son at home with me that me and my husband adopted when he was 13 months old. My husband was killed in a tragic auto accident just after my ten year olds 3rd birthday which left, just me and him alone. We have been alone, just the two of us up until June of last year and then, I met a wonderful man with three children of his own. Two of them are grown and the other is 8 years old. We have purchased an older home in the center of Weaver and it is gorgeous but it needs to be made modern and beautiful but keep the orginal integrity of the house with its crown moldings and wood floors. It needs your touch all the way through. I want modern, elegant and confortable and from what I have seen of your beatiful work, I think, YOU are the designer for us. Dear Genevieve, Saw your show last night and you were trying to hide the computer cords from the TV , Computer set up. A good way to do that is to use the old telephone coil cords that everyone has had at one time and you can buy them new. I always save the old one and cut it in the length I need and then just coil it around the cords I want to hide. You can put about 3 to 5 cords, depending on their size, in one coil and then they are not all over the floor behind the desk or entertainment center. For the ones along the floor you can buy strips to cover them at a home inprovement center. We have used both. Just a tip.

Dear Genevieve,
My husband retired two years ago announcing "We need a project"! We?? I was still teaching school! He decided we needed to replace the kitchen counter with stone. I went along with the idea thinking we could also remove the wallpaper (icky) and put in a new floor(double icky). His response was , "you don't have to match anything. Just choose the counter and then think about the walls and floor". I am a big fan of HGTV and knew it would not work and sure enough the counter went in and he dusted his hands and said "that is that"!
We went through 19 years of restoration on our first house and we were young and could do most of the work ourselves. This house is only 14 years old and I don't want to wait for a kitchen . I made poor decisions when we built this house as all the decorating was left up to me and I am a beige person. HELP, make my retirement a dream come true................rescue my kitchen!!

Genevieve you are my favorite person to do a room makeover for my husband. Genevieve he has always been a giving man to everyone he is around. He was brought up with no money and he had to fin for himself. He and his brother's played in a band to help with expenses. His parents told him that he would never amount to anything so he had better learn to play drums the best that he could to make a living. I can not even comprehend a parent telling anyone that. We have fixed a room with his musical equipment in it...but it really truly needs a makeover. I can not tell you what it would mean to have a room of his own like that. He plays bass guitar at our church, but also loves drums. John is someone that totaly appreciates anything that anyone gives him. He will never forget his childhood but with special things that he get's makes him feel like he is worth more that his parents thought that he was. If you pick him you will not only be a answer to prayers, but you will give others an appreciation to do the best that they can in life no matter what the cards deal us.

Dear Geneveieve,

After moving 13 times as a military wife and at age 50, I was finally able to build my dream home. I am very grateful for my home, however, we did not have a good experience with our builder and as thus, have been trying to make improvements for the past 10 years.

Within two years of moving into our home, our custom cabinets began to "peel or fray." We also need new counter tops and new flooring. I have tried to be resourceful and to make the right decisions. One of the problems is that when I have a company or individual come out , they all give different advise as to what to do about the cabinets....... reface them, throw them out, refinish, stain, paint, etc. I need your help, please.
My kitchen opens right into my family room. This is most likely my last opportunity to turn my living space into what I want. I would love a cozy, relaxing living area (kitchen/family rooom), earthy colors, clean but not ultra contemporary. I don't seem to be ble to pull it all together. I would love a beautiful living space that screams warmth, style and creativity.
I would be so grateful if you would please come and help me.

Instead expose it to the world! Make your house value go..... Well, did I remind you this is Genie Sleeve? >:-)

You've been picked so pick up your phone, you only have three short numbers to dial - just remember to tell them you've lost all your sheep and need help collecting them. Don't forget to leave your name as "Bo" and direct them to your house. Some nice men in very very white uniforms will be right over to take you to the new facility, er home, you'll be living in for a while. (it's what you get for doing such a thorough job of posting here... ;-)

And not to forget Cheri - You're quite the winner too. You started your post off so good too - "I need major help". Oh you have no idea just how right you are. You sign up to have all the family get togethers and yet you have no real bathroom for them? You've won a free trip to the Porta Potty Factory. When the smoke clears, I give you a beautiful new room. Well, actually you'll be waterproofing it and making one huge water tank out of it. When it comes to worms vs. seals, don't be stupid, choose the seal!! Throw out the husband if you need to instead of the seal, it's probably better smelling anyway!

Genie,

Can you wave your magic wand and make them stop??

Although it is kinda hilarious what these people write and your responses : )

Jill -

"Can you wave your magic wand and make them stop??"

Now why would you want to make me do a silly thing like that. Think of all the great times we've had here. It's the only way I can one up that awful *other* celebrity who stole my name!!

Now on the other hand, since you mentioned it, I have a nice hill and a pail of water set aside for you any time you'd like an outdoor remodel. We can have the ambulance at the ready if that accident prone Jack comes by. ;-)

(and if you gave him a push instead of that accident I won't say a thing)

Dear Genevieve, My husband and I are retired now. We moved into a small home about 8 years ago. We made our basement into a museum with all the things we have collected over the 48 years we have been married. It has turned into a monster. We have this collection on one wall and shelves with lots of things on them. It is so busy you cannot rest in this room. Every where you look there are things and more things. A wall with something different on it and tables with more stuff on them. We are ready to get rid of all these dust catchers and make a relaxing retreat for us to have a nice tv room with a table and chairs where we can do our puzzles and have coffee and sit with our laptop computer and enjoy life. A sofa and a flat screen tv would also be nice. We have plenty of room for all these things but we are not sure about what colors to use or how to lay this room out. Our upstairs is very colorful. We like lots of color but we realize our home has a very busy decor. That is why we would like one of our rooms to be more relaxing and laid back. Please help us. We have trouble toning down our decor. We always start out small and before you know the decor is over powering. I am a good homemaker but by the time I get done dusting I don't have time for fun. Please help.

Dear Genevieve:
My kitchen needs a makeover badly. My house was built in the 70's and was a model home. The counter tops are poppy (orange/red) colored formica. The wallpaper that we replaced had large poppy-colored partridges which we replaced with tiny hearts/flowered wallpaper 20 years ago. The cabinets are formica and very dark wood colored. Needless to say, my kitchen is a disaster. I don't want to spend a whole lot of money on updating my kitchen but I sure would like to have it done. I have seen shows where the cabinets are painted and even the countertops are painted somehow, and the makeover looks great. That is what I am looking for. I would love to send a picture, but I am not very good with the computer. This letter has taken two months to get done. I watch HGTV every day. I stay up late at night when I don't get a chance during the day to watch. I'm your biggest fan! Please consider me for your next room makeover.

The master bedroom doubles as an office complete with two computers PLUS bedroom furniture. Brad and Jackie are great parents. They both need to work--she in real estate and he is a Miami-Dade firefighter/paramedic. So all their free time is spent with the girls making sure that family is number one. This mom would love to see them in a "new" organized bedroom so any suggestions that you might have wouls surely be appreciated. Thank you, Mary

If you can help in this area and I can get rid of alot of papers this would look great. I am the only one doing this. My husband would like most of this thrown out. Anytime he sits at the desk he tells me when are you going to throw this out. I guess we have to know some of the other things. Dear Genevieve,

Hii it's amazing to write to you!... I just want to start off by telling you your someone the entire family loves, a person I admire and someone i look up to. I am a twelve year old boy who waches ur show all the time. Most weekends I visit my aunts ranch style home hoping for her to redesign her OUTDATED living room. She loves to have family around, but her living room is not very invitiing and most times empty due to the dark, dingy walls. She doesn't have kid friendly furniture either so that makes it hard for her to let her 8 year old little girl and her 3 year old little boy step in to the small and narrow room. Off the living room is the front enterance that is never used because stepping into the space seems uncomfortable and depressing for all the family to enter. It hurts knowing her husband ( My soon to be uncle ) and my grandmother ( Her mother ) got diagnosed with diabetes and she and I would like them to come home and vacation from the hard work they go through. she has been going through alot of stress lately because of juggling her children, the wedding and her students who need special attention and care. I want to give her a designer room as a surprise wedding gift but I need YOUR help to do it. GENEVIEVE PLEASE come and help us!!!!

All I can say is Genie Sleeve should let that "Aunt" run the show. Anyone 6 kid juggler is better than Penn & Teller. I've seen bowling ball jugglers, and juggling chain saws, even a bowling ball, a chain saw, and an apple all at the same time. But six kids in the air is more work than Genie Sleeve can do...

I am a single mom with two and I care for my mother who is 79. I work 50 to 60 hours a week to make ends meet it definitely is not easy. Between work and the kids I have no time or the extra funds to do any renovations or just upkeeps for that matter. I keep it clean and thats about all I can do. My future goal would be to move to jacksonville to be close by my family but I know with my house not being updated I wouldn't get much if I sold it So if your show is ever in my neighbor I would love to have you make over my place.

Been watching your career for years and now I'd love your HELP. I was recently diagnosed with cancer in my happy place and it's really brought me down--that and my living room! Apparently all my old neighbors got a deal on faux stone and it's everywhere (pool, spa and unfortunately fireplace.)

Re: HGTV Possible Free Room Makeover by Genevieve!

Hi Genevieve!
I guess I'll start by saying that I have design dislexia...hehehe. I have no idea what to do with my house that we bought in Garland Texas 2 and a half years ago. I have a sunk in formal living room with a step up to what is supposed to be a formal dining room...but I refuse to make it that because then I'll just end up having to cook for people at Thanks Giving and X mas lol. The formal dining room area is next to a large dry bar area that I love. Part of it was made out of an old piano(You have to see it to know what I am talking about). I have always wanted color in my house...since I have always rented before this and have always had to have just white walls. I have painted the room...which by the way has vaulted ceilings(I had to ask my hubby what those ceilings were called lol). I painted a wall(huge wall)chocolate with the other walls a greenish color. (I took that idea right off of a paint swatch booklette at home depot). Now I have no idea what I could possibly hang on my huge dark brown wall. That Is my main issue I guess. I would like to make this space comfortable and pleasing to the eye since it is the first area you see when you come into my house. I have no idea what my style is but I do know what I hate. I love rod iron and wood. I love warm colors...brown is my favorite. My husband and I are exactly the same in our tastes so he wouldnt be a problem having a difference of opinions.
I grew up on a farm in a small house in Canada that well...lets just say design was not a priority.
I also have lots of other design dilemas in my house that you might have ideas for. I would love to have your help.

Dear Genevieve,

I am from Westminster, CO and I am in desperate need for a basement makeover. I bought my house for five years now but I never have any desire to spend time in my basement b/c it's very dark end empty. The only thing that I use the basement is to do my laundry and store my clothes in my walk-in closet. Every time it rain, the water from outside goes in my basement and it flooded my basement. I have to pull up the carpet to dry it. It takes a week to dry it by using the electric fans, a rag and bucket to get most of water out from the wet floor. If there is lots of rain this summer again then I will be very sad because I will be busy cleaning my basement week after weeks.

Please Genevieve, please help me by giving a makeover on your show soon so I can enjoy my summer and not worry about my basement. I love your show very much and I love all the shows that you did the makeover for others.

Thanks

Round and round it goes, the Genie Sleeve wand is about to land!! (run for your lives, where ever it lands it's gonna blow...)

I hereby transport the Queen of Hearts to your basement. (you didn't think I mean *that* Queen did you??) And ever time it rains she'll shout "Off with Michele's head!! Off with Michele's head!!". Michelerella has to slave over her rags and mops cleaning up the water and can't go to the Colorado Ball.

Lady, IT'S CALLED A SUMP PUMP. You don't need a make over, you need to fix the flooding before Noah pays you a visit.

[big heavy sigh] Once again my job here is done.

Genie of the Royal Sleeve

I do have a sump pump, I even paid $650 to put a new sump pump part in but the flood problem still exist. I really do need a makeover because the makeover members will know how to solve the problem for me.

Michele - You still don't realize do you? This forum is a bunch of people from a tiny little Hackettspatch NJ. It has absolutely nothing to do with the show, the network, or her. Right? Are you aware Genevieve doesn't even take feedback any more they got so much of it?

PS. "makeover members will know how to solve the problem for me." They only do interior design. You don't have a makeover kind of issue, you need an engineer not an interior designer. You don't need a show to get you one of those. But if you did want a show then something like PBS Ask This Old House would be a far better bet.

Dear Genevieve,
First i want to start off by telling you i have the best mother in the whole world. Growing up my mother has worked very hard to make sure my sister and I have had everything we have ever needed on a very small income. As a child my Mother and Grandmother both raised my sister and I and May of 2009 my Grandmother got very ill and passed away as well as my Moms younger sister in November. Over the years the kitchen has gone to shambles. The linoleum on the floor is peeling badly and the cabinets and counter tops are falling apart and the kitchen table is might i say very dated as well as the chairs. All though i would love to just tear this house down and build her a new one the kitchen is probably the worse part of the house. I love my mom very much and I would love to give her something to lift her spirits after everything she has gone through over the past year from losing her best friend and Mother. Genevieve PLEASE! consider my mother for a free kitchen makeover. She truly deserves it!!

Thank you, Sincerely,
Brandy

Brandy - "Lift her spirits"??!? Oh no, you don't need me and a make over, you need John C and his Ghost Hunter TAPS friends. Either that or it's a different kind of spirit and you need Calico and her Rolling Rock!!

In either case, Genie Spirit bows out on this one....

Dear G

Re: HGTV Possible Free Room Makeover by Genevieve!

I have a basement that needs help. We watched HGTV ten years ago and painted the walls green and white stripes as we couldn't afford to finish it off. You had on Tv to paint the concrete for a laundry room. Loved it for all these years, and the grandchildren called it Barneys room. They have out grown it and now we need an extra bedroom and bathroom down stairs for the children and grandchildren to use when they come to visit. The plumbing for a bath is in, but needs to be hooked up. We are in our 70's, and are still watching HGTV for hours a day. Love your programs.

Sincerely,

Gram - I just love you. You're Barney lovers from the 70's? And you're time traveling into the future to get my advice?? And of all things you fixate on that horrible, awful HGTV thing?

Oh, no. This isn't that crap, this is Genie on Hickstown TV. And I know just how to fix things....

Have your kids get together down stairs and all hold hands in a circle. Start swinging your hands and sing - "I love you, you love me, screw that witch on HGTV. Help us out, with our dream, Satan put the hoop on the i-beam."

And magically a giant green and white striped lizard will appear, but do not be afraid. This is Can D. Stripe, a pre-historic dinosaur of ultimate retribution. The lizard will proceed to consume not only the hideous furniture, but also you and your husband. This is the town's punishment for violating code and getting live wires near a huge grounded piece of iron. Your children, your grandchildren, and the whole town will feel safer and live happily ever after without dangerous grandparents or the almost as deadly bedroom suite. Now lets all get together and sing another song....

It's either that or back to the 70's with you!!

My name is Annette Ayers and I need your help in my kitchen!

I purchased my house 12 years ago while serving in the Navy. I've recently retired after serving 20 years of active duty. Moved back into my house and became an avid HGTV viewer and doer. I've redecorated every room in my house and love it! But when I attempted to redecorate the kitchen-nothing seemed to work at all! I have tried everything-kocked down a wall, hung new curtains, removed the breakfast bar, relocated a cabinet to another part of the kitchen and retiled the floor but now the kitchen looks worst than it did before I started. I know what I want my kitchen to look like and how I want it to function, but I need your help to bring my vision to fruition.

Paint everything blue. And when I mean everything, I mean *everything*. Paint the floor blue, paint the ceiling blue, paint the fridge blue, pint the sink blue, paint the cat blue, even yourself. All Navy Blue. Then drop a huge boat anchor in the middle of the kitchen where that awful, awful wall and breakfast bar was. Get some good MDF and start building a boat around the anchor. Occasionally start to sing "Anchors Away". Your kitchen may still look like sin but if your lucky/unlucky/not sure/bi-curious/etc. the Village People may stop by. Oh, we're "In The Navy" now!!

Knock out all those walls, the hurricanes will do that anyway, and when I mean knock them down, I mean *ALL* of them, including the outside walls. You don't need anything but four corner pillars to hold up that flimsy roof. Don't know where to start? Simple. Have no where to begin.

Live in the world's largest patio, you won't need tile or anything! Replace any nice furniture with cheap green resin table and chairs and wicker that leaves a mark on your butt. (Hey, it's gonna match that horrid plastic poinsettia Christmas theme table cloth you already have)

Get rid of all the family pictures and replace them with lawn gnomes. (be afraid if your friends can't tell the difference) Pink flamingos and whirligigs in the living room, inside/outside who can tell the difference? Shower au naturel and let the neighbors talk.

Did I already say it blows?? My job here is done. (I can hope it's done can't I?? Please. Please say it's done. Please read even just one word of what's been posted. One. Just one. Is it too much to ask.)

Dear Genevieve,
My husband and I love your show and variety of colors and styles which go together so wonderfully and flowingly. You give knowledge and desire to try and incorporate a variety of colors, techniques, surfaces, textures so well. One of the shows you had was so special for me because it seemed so new, rare and unexpected. I loved it. You used a painting technique , which covered the previously white one with a special technique
using a variety of paint types, as I remember. The end result was fantastic and made a
low ceiling appear much higher, like an optimal illusion. You also matched the flowing curtains with a totally complimentary shade. On television it appeared that the ceiling was a shiny putter like color, but classy...the curtains, as we.., were so rich and complimentary to the rest of the room. In our case matching Knotty pine with the richness of granite for the bar, new flooring, new gas fireplace, and much more. (hopefully)
My husband has taught for thirty-four years and I have taught for thirty-nine years.
We faced reality, when the economy crashed and decided to make our home a place thst
we could once more appreciate since moving to the beach was no longer an option.

As for your unedited "letters" well let's just say it's no problem or my name isn't Genevieve!! (oops, did the "reality" bubble burst yet?)

As for your house, the Genie's wand goes round and round, be prepared......

Let's calmly take your room, and remove all the heavy, unneeded, sharp objects. There's some nice wall covering pads available from your local mXeXdXiXcXaXlX sXuXpXpXlXyX I mean home improvement story, get a nice strong security bar with double lock and key on the outside. Don't worry the dXoXcXtXoXrX I mean design consultant that visits you every day will administer some nice medication that will make you believe you have a putter in your hand and are golfing all day long. The putter might even be putty colored. (putty, the color is putty) Plus they'll give you some nice golfing attire. Never mind how the sleeves tie together - golf, your "reality" is all golf just like this is HGTV and I'm Genevieve.... And if you keep banging your head against the wall, not to worry we got that padding for you, remember?

Congratulations you're on "Reality TV". That's Genie Sleeve's reality for you anyway, my illusion is entirely optimal...

Genevieve, you are without a doubt the most talented, personable designer I have seen on HGTV. I would love to have a bathroom makeover. I would like to have a claw foot tub installed, with all the old time hardware. Also, I would like an old dresser made into a vanity with a crock style basin and a pitcher-pump style faucet. I have had a tub and a
dresser given to me. They both need some minor renovation. I simply do not have the money at this time, as I am on disability-but, I do have the dream! Seldom does one see any primitive style on HGTV. In fact, I guess I never have!! The only time I view the type of ideas I have are in various country magazines I subscribe to or pick up at a magazine rack. Surely, there are other viewers who would enjoy seeing a makeover such as this-one so totally different from the "norm". I have always liked country and now tend to appreciate primitive pieces even more. I am very new at computers, as is quite evident. There are no pictures to share with you. I could take some and land mail them, but I do not know how to send via computer. Thank-you for reading this and for being so enjoyable to watch on television. Your laugh is so contagious and delightful!

Hello JIMMIE LEE in Texas -

You'll do everything bigger down there, dontcha?? Well, maybe not quite everything. "im pretty sure your wondering" - That's for sure, but I have to stop you there. Believe me, how long you've been married is *not* exactly on all of our minds. Well Jimmie Lee, Bobby Ray, and Nama Numnuts that lives with you - I sure have a surprise.

That awful Homechannel wench is busy, you've got the Genie on the line here. Can't live with "high school girl room" but you can live with MIL in your drawers? And the Magic Wand will commence....

The "high school girl room" disappears and "high school boy room" takes over. A new set of posters adorns the room - a Ford Super Duty with Jegs stickers, Bobby Rahal in a Formula One, Daisy Duke leaning on the General Lee, and a White/Engvall/Foxworthy/Larry "Blue Collar Rides Again" poster signed "Dang, yous more redneck than us". A hairstylist awaits to make sure your mullets are in order. The pink bed sheets are replaced by Sesame Street bunk beds. The frilly lace curtains become Blue Clues. (now there's a real thought)

Another wave of the wand also turns your inlaws into Stiller & Meara. Because if there's one thing you need, it's Jewish sitcom parents. They will be escorting y'all to school everyday as well - you're all in the same grade. Happy Bar/Bat Mitzvah. That should be any day now. Any day.

This is McGruff the Crime Dog here. I'll be putting my paws on this make over at the Genie's request.

I'm sure glad you have a parent with you at the moment. This site has a minimum age requirement that you don't meet Cameron. This is a dangerous place without a parent there. It seems there are some minimum requirements your parents aren't aware of either... ;-)

But not to worry, McGruff is here.

We'll be redoing your room with McGruff's Top 10 Internet Rules for Tweens wallpaper. Not to worry about mom & dad either - we'll be doing half of their room over the *exact* same way. The other half with be done by my fellow canine in a Blues Clues theme. Do you think they will be able to find Blue?

Remember we all have to stick together to take a bite outta Crime!!

Round and round the Genie's wand goes, and presto! An eight foot exacto knife!! All of "us" walls have been carved out into a silhouette of the Virginia Sky Line Drive. It does sadly resemble Joan Rivers face as well, come to think of it. Oh well, the knife will be left in your room just in case you'd like to look like Joan/your room/Nip & Tuck/you choose. Happy Self Origami.

That's your momma Melina. The Genie of the Waterlogged Sleeves knows just what to give for a birthday present.... Round and round that wand goes, where it stops, well we all know it's not gonna be pretty.

The Genie wand turns you into an actually grateful daughter who kisses the ground dear mom walks on, darn well tells her that the room looks *gorgeous*, and doesn't need a single thing changed even if it's 100% hideous. You march right over there and tell her she's the best decorator the planet has ever known. Either that, or I grant Reggie's wish. (*and* we're all gonna tap on the glass...)

My aquatic job here is done.

Genie, you're amazing!!!

Maybe you can help us out too. Some creep broke into our Lounge and changed it to what looks to be a strip club! Now it was all fun and games for the first few minutes, but turned tragic when Banana Boy slipped on his own peel and went flying off the stage! Poor thing will never be the same again.

So I ask you Genie to please lend us a wand and change our wonderful Lounge back to the way it was. (I don't think it was doing any good for the health of den mother anyway.)

Thanks Genie, you're the bestest!!!! :)

Hello there!! Greetings from the Robinson's. I hope I am writing to someone in regards to our poor neglected home. My husband owns a towing service, so if he is not working or working on the trucks, then he is eating or sleeping. Our home was built in the 70's, so it has the yellow counter tops in the kitchen and the kitchen is so small that its not even funny because I believe this once was a summer house at one time. I have absolutely no decorating skills what so ever, so I'm almost embarrassed to live here. It could be such an adorable house!! It has an acre of property (I love that) with a pool, but it lacks pizaz!! This house just has so much darn potential, but we don't have the time or money to put into it. Trust me, this would be a perfect house for your show. Everyone that comes over practicly tell me so. Oh and I forgot to mention, most of the rooms still has the popcorn ceilings. Wah!!!! Thanks for such a cool show!!!!!! Kimberly and Kevin Robinson

Kimberly - Popcorn Ceilings!! The Genie of the Early 70's has just the "fix" to match your Early 70's decor - I wave the magic wand and send the Swedish Chef to install "Hot Butter - Popcorn":

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AvDvTnTGjgQ

Batgirl - "Dark Room"?? You got it - with a wave of the magic wand all your rooms have been painted jet black. Plain jet black, not one single hit of color. And not just the walls, the whole room - all the furniture, all the fixtures, all the pets, everything! We've taken the liberty of also filling in any doors or windows. You want dark, you got it. Complete and total darkness ready for an old fashioned good time... You may have trouble getting in the house though without any doors or windows. Oh well, minor inconveniences.

[sigh] My job here once again is "done". (!?!)

The Genie

Rich/Calico - It's actually worse than that. Look above and see that there was once someone who did actually come back and look. But they *still* didn't get it and argued they did deserve the makeover after all.

Nuts.

LOL Genie. Put that magic wand away.

Rebecka - I believe the Genie would love to, but so many people keep making special requests. And oh how special they are... ;-)

FYI... two years ago we made it to the final round of interviews and photo sumbissions for this show. we were rejected because we would not exceed the budget we had set to contribute to the renovation. so, be informed before you sign on ... they do expect you to put out cash.

dear genevieve, i'm living in el paso texas til my son comes home from iraq. my husband and i left our home in utah to help our daughter in law and 4 kids while he is serving others. my husband retired early to do this for them. at home we have the most ackward family room. we have a fireplace that doesn't work. but the crazy thing that is weird but dangerous is the "pit" that is some kind of decorating thing by the fireplace. i have no way to show u. but believe me you have never seen this kind of design before. i would love u to makeover this odd family room and surprise my very unselfish husband who has always put everyone ahead of himself. thanks so much for even having this place to share, colleen

Dear Genevieve,

My wife and I worked very hard (no contractors...just our own elbow grease) to finish our basement for our two young children, and we found out we have vinyl asbestos tiles down there and water that gets in with heavy rains. We would love to finish our basement properly so that we can sleep at night knowing that our children can play in a safe and healthy room.

But have no fear, the Genie will make it all clear. (as mud)

Dylan - Sorry for the momentary lapse, never mind those others, The Genie fixes all. Permanently. Maybe not quite the way you envisioned. But then again, it's free. So you've got grease? In the basement? And still not waterproof? Sounds like you just didn't use enough of it. Presto! Your Home Makeover Genie fills the basement with a six inch layer of industrial lithium grease. If it doesn't keep the water out, a little may make the voices in the head stop too. And just to make sure your kids are all having fun, we've delivered 9 pigs in a poke to liven it up. They're slippery suckers so do try to hold on tight.

Play. Safe. Healthy. At least one out of three isn't bad for the Genie. Well sort of one. If they're lucky. Actually zero is looking just fine, right?

Signed,

Genie of the elbow greased Pig

I think Dylan's and the ones where the poster does not specify where they live, nor put their first and last name are just (busting our chops) continuing the fun of this thread.
