Fat Tuesday
Can't believe it's that time again already... Mardi Gras is tomorrow. That means Hurricanes and Muffulettas at our house. Not a big fan of doughnuts (-;
We are making up a big batch of Hurricanes at our club and I'm picking up the King cake!
Laissez les bons temps rouler!!!!
There are probably a million recipes but this is the best, IMO.

ianimal - Sacrilege!! Fastnachts for everyone! I've got a half dozen on order.
Calico696 - Just don't swallow the baby! Hate that.
No local bakeries, but readily available in both Shoprite and Weis.
You might want to check over the threads from last year as well as the year before too. Paczkis were discussed both times.
Try this for fat Tuesday:

Salute a cent’anno!
I found the baby in the King Cake at work in 1990. Guess who had a baby in 1991? Lucky me.
Sadly, my family never celebrated Fat Tuesday/Shrove Tuesday/Mardi Gras so I'm not really aware of the traditions but have a great day if you do!
Got mine at Shop Rite. Not the best but not bad either. No babies were in it. Choking hazard.
can someone explain a king cake to the uninitiated ?

is this it?
I get my cake at Shop Rite. Last year there was a baby with it. I will let you know later if that has changed, I plan on picking it up at lunch time.
Had a nice slice of King Cake today at Shoprite -- they were serving them in the bakery dept. Yum!!

So King Cakes come from the epiphany on January 6. Why are we eating them on fat tuesday and not January 6th?
Ah yes, Mardi Gras, where people celebrate the baby Jesus by eating cake and then go out and flash their t*tties for some beads at night. Good times.
Nation of wusses!, No Calico. A nation of lawyers creating a nation of wusses. Did you ever hear of the ACLU.
Calico696 - Sounds like 18 hrs from now you'll find out you're mistaken. Told you to be careful about eating it. ;-)
Happy Mardi Gras 2017 !
Hope you all enjoy your Hurricanes, King Cake and Fastnachts.
For us when I was growing up we always had pancakes for supper.
I already have a half dozen homemade Fastnachts on order and am picking them up over the weekend. That's about all Mardi Gras means to me. ;-)
