Ski/snow board resort advice

I know absolutely nothing since I don't ski or snowboard, I am looking for ideas for a Christmas gift to send someone for 2 days but don't want to send them to Shawnee or Camelback since they go there all the time. I am looking for a place that they can just walk outside their hotel and ski without driving or getting on a shuttle. Looking for pa or ny locations.

I really cannot recommend PA or NY locations. Eastern PA is pathetic and the Catskills has quite a bit at Hunter while being a good ski area is not really the place to stay slopeside IMHO.

This is a good article, the locations are pricey. I have skied all 10 and have stayed slopeside at 3 of them. As a former cabin owner at Killington I can tell you that slopeside can be overrated, especially on the East Coast. Top places I have stayed slopeside on the East Coast are:

1) Mount Tremblant (Quebec)
2) Sugarloaf (Maine)
3) Snowshoe (West Virginia -- interesting because this is a top down resort with the lodging at the top of this high 4800 foot mountain)
