Comcast Internet Issues

Just curious, anyone in the area tonight with Comcast internet experiencing a current outtage?? Mine has been out since about 8pm tonight. I rebooted my router and still nothing.
Any info????

Happened to me a couple weeks ago ..I called and they said they were doing maintenance... But I still have problems every now and then with Comcast internet

No problems here. Been fine all day.

Ugg, in the past 3 weeks there are times when my phone doesn't work, the voice mail doesn't pick up, the computer kicks me off the internet, and the picture on the tv actually disappears. Really annoying when Jeopardy is on and it's final jeopardy, or when Judge Judy is ready with the verdict. At first I thought it was my tv, but there is a message saying the show will resume in a short time. I don't even bother to call them. What a waste of time trying to get a live person.

We have had problems on and off for the last couple months. Annoying. Have to keep resetting our modem and have no phone service here and there. They are sending out a technician this Saturday to check it out.

My problems were solved when my new Gateway Modem arrived. A little over a month ago they E Mailed me saying I wasn't taken advantage of there service. Order a new modem , witch I did.

Thanks all for the replies. I called them and they resolved issue over the phone after running some tests.

Looking to downgrade their service soon to basic cable. We're paying over $200 a month for the triple play with no premium channels! It's ridiculous. Anyone have experience with Kodi? I've been researching it.

I have been having problems with the comcast internet service for quite some time. They came out twice and said it was my phone not comcast. Still have problems have to go to different rooms to get the WiFi. Wanted me to upgrade, which I did the first time, now they want me to upgrade again.

We need a comcast revolt.

I am serious!!

The service gets worse and worse, while their prices go up and up.
Comcast is awful.

My bill has DOUBLED over the last few years.

ALWAYS have problems with it. Last night it was out, AGAIN.

Calico - watch out with the tech coming. I had one last month and was told I would not be charged and sure enough on my next bill $40 charge. Yes, they did reverse it when I called and complained, but what a hassle it was.

Like I have said before, I'am stuck with Comcast. No choice. And paying out the ass because DH won 't downgrade and lose some channels. UGH!!!!!

Vic Kodi is great, kodi is a media software/platform that let you watch Movies, Tv Shows, some channels, it's like a virtual DVR that's is connected worldwide

If you buy Amazon fire stick you can install kodi in it (pretty easy)

Constant problems with Comcrust, same as the ones above. They are coming today to check it out, glad I read the comments now I know they will just screw us.

I have relevant news via a commercial account of mine that has Comcast Business. It sounds like Comcast finally went through their system upgrade last night in many areas of NJ. That means some of the older modems are going to have problems. This is the warning that had made to customers about getting modem replacements and upgrades. If you haven't upgraded yet, you probably want to call or stop in to do a replacement.

Comast is just AWFUL. We rely on it for work and it is up and down constantly. Praying FIOS comes through so I have an alternative.

It worked for me. There is no Battery for phone back up in the new one's. You can buy one if you need it.

I have had issues with Comcast internet on and off ( mostly on ) for a long while. We would lose the connection and have to unplug and replu many times each day. I finally had to have a tech come out. He replaced our old cable lines outside. The newer cables are much thicker. He also ran a single connection cable from outside to our gateway, just for the internet. With all that said, WiFi will always be spotty, especially the further away from the gateway you are. In English, we hardly get a good connection upstairs. Anything that needs to be on a " solid" connection must be hard wired to the gateway. Since the tech was here, there have been very few problems. Keeping my fingers crossed. Also checking the bill constantly because it was supposed to be " no charge." So far, no added charges on the bill. Good Luck !

Had sever issues with Comcast when we moved to town 11 years ago. Techs at the house 2-3 times a week for 3 weeks. Finally resolved it as follows. Each time I called they opened a new trouble ticket, each time they came out they closed that ticket, usually within 24 hours.

Finally caught on, when the problem recurred, I asked that they reopen the old trouble ticket. Turns out that each location is rated on how long it takes to solve problems, a ticket that is open for 72 hours (even reopened tickets gets escalated to the region, a ticket that is open for over a week goes much higher. Reopened the ticket twice, third tech out replaced lines instead of just jiggling connections. Have never had an issue since..

Aug '15

Glad I'm not the only one having problems. I've gone through my 3rd modem in a month. The service keeps disconnecting so obviously something is wrong with their lines. I don't get how the TV portion works and the internet doesn't. Makes no sense. The signals are coming from the same line.

Metsman Metsman
Aug '15

I was right, Comcrust came by today, told me our cables have current, as in low voltage electricity is some how bleeding into the majority of cable lines within the house. No explanation of how only suggests a faulty ground wire, somewhere.
If anybody has any clue I'm all ears, thanks.

Roywhite Roywhite
Aug '15

Roywhite - How old is the inside wiring? Most likely you need to rewire from where their cable comes in from the outside to the rest of the house.

Watch out Roywhite. They will charge you $40 for the tech coming out. Keep an eye on your bill.

Some of the cables are about 20 years old, the other half is less than 10.
I will be watching for the service charge. Thx

Roywhite Roywhite
Aug '15

Age of your interior cables isn't the most important thing, but rather what their construction is and how many connections/ splitters you have. First of all, look at your cable. If the printing states "RG-59" you have substandard cable lines in your house. The best current cable should be "RG-6U Quadshield", that cable not only has a thicker center conductor, but also has a variety of outer metal shieldings under the jacketing, usually consisting of a wire mesh screening, a drain wire and a foil wrapping.

All those serve to help keep all outside RFI (Radio Frequency Interference) from affecting your signal, as well as to help keep any electromagnetic energy from nearby parallel-running power lines from affecting your signal (inductance). If possible the cable lines shouldn't run close to and parallel with your power lines anyway and if they cross each other, they should be at right angles to each other.

Any splitting should be done as close to the entry point on the inside of the house as possible. The splitter should be a high Hz rating and you should "home run" each cable to its modem or cable box. One line should go directly to the modem and the other lines directly from the splitter to each of your cable boxes with no other split outs along the way. All connections should be securely made also, even to the point of taking a small wrench to snug (but not overtighten) them down. If you have any left over outlets on your splitter, they should be terminated with a "terminal cap". That closes off another entry point for interference.

Any cable from your modem to your router/wireless router should also be high quality and the connections checked for tightness also, unless you have a combined unit,

I hope that helps anyone to self-check their own interior house cable wire routing to see if you may need them to come out to upgrade it if you don't wish to upgrade it yourself.

Phil D. Phil D.
Aug '15

Thanks Phil, I can look into all of those suggestions, except where the cable is in the wall. Most of splits I have have been there for 20 years but it can't hurt to check everything.

I had similar issues; cutting out, and boxing. Internet was constantly losing connection to my desktop. A guy comes out, and installed filters on the 3 tv's, and it seemed to be better for two day's.
I called back, and the 2nd tech. said "Who the heck put these filters on?" They don't work with these boxes....so he ripped them out. Found a poor incoming signal, and found old original cable from street to house from 1963 when it was Storer Cable.

He replaced the section of entrance cable, and all problems were resolved.
I know when it rains and it is windy, the cable internet signal acts up.

Embryodad Embryodad
Aug '15

Agreed Embryodad!

Sometimes it's the cable from the pole to the house. I was having picture dropouts about 5 or more years back. I checked all my inside connections and everything was fine. A pair of guys came out one Saturday and found that the wire from the pole to the house (about 120 feet worth) had issues. Once they replaced that, all was good again.

By the way, I was on wireless in the library today and it was excruciatingly slow, so I'm guessing there may be some issues going on with the cable co. all around at the moment.

Phil D. Phil D.

There's wifi called Xfinity wifi that everyone can connect to if your lines are screwy. That is what I am connected to right now until they fix my issue.

So Comcast was supposed to come today between 11 and 1. They never showed up. I got an automated call early this morning that said to press 1 to cancel my appointment or to press 2 to confirm it. I pressed 2. It told me that my appointment was confirmed and a technician would be here between 11 and 1. At 2:00 I called them to tell them that nobody showed. They said my appointment hadn't been confirmed with the automatic phone call. WTF???? I waited 2 and half weeks for this appt. Stayed home waiting for hours. Now they are going to have a supervisor call me back. Grrrrr!

anyone pay 78 bucks a month just for internet for comcast ?

Aug '15

@calico - that happened to me once and they should up 3 hours after the end of the window as if nothing was wrong. Then I had the pleasure of fighting the service fee for 4 months - they'd take it out and add it back in the following month.

Ridiculous that many of us pay approx. $2,400 a year for cable, phone, internet.

Potsy - I do. I have directv through verizon and use comcast for internet only.

Me too, Potsy, I have Blast at $79.99. Unlike most people on here my Comcast internet is rock solid but then again I am not using any of their equipment.

Denis Denis

Denis

Just for giggles, recheck all your connections. Sometimes there is rotational stress on the cable from being unwound and if you don't watch for that when you're connecting the cable to boxes and splitters, etc. it's possible the connection will "back off" all on its own just enough to give you issues. That can also happen if the connection is made in an attic or drop ceiling and the splitter and/or cable isn't secured to a joist due to both that rotational stress and heating/cooling cycling.

If you've owned a Chevy with the good old side terminal battery, you'll likely get what I mean. I had a friend that had lights, etc. on her Camaro, but the car wouldn't start and I knew just what to check for first. I saw that the side terminal had been tightened so that the weight of the cable was on the "up" side of the turn and vibration and the weight of the cable had backed off the screw so that it made good enough contact to supply light current to work the lights, but not enough to allow the amount needed to start the car through the connection. I retightened it so that the cable was just a bit shy of being straight downward so the weight of the cable would tend to tighten the connection and all was good again.

Aug '15

If your even a day late on bill they run a program that randomly disconnects all services until your caught up. They told me this themselves. Shady and soon illigal

Dh I can't see how this could be true. My bank made an error and I did not catch it until the next bill came in for two months of service since I missed a payment. No hitches or loss of service with one month late. I think someone was pulling your chain to keep you from paying late.

I always pay late. Sometimes miss a month or pay 1/2 the bill. My service is crap. I guess I get what I pay for, or maybe they are messing with me because I don't pay on time.

Looking for input on Comcast service. They have been soliciting in my area as I have Direct TV. I'm happy with it but they sat they can beat the price. Is Comcast service ok, my last experience was the service was not good at all. Thanks!

Mrjon Mrjon
Aug '15

I would never change from DirecTV for TV service. Never an issue with them, they have lots of promotions and free premium TV weekends. This past one this weekend was buy one get one free on pay-per-view. I do have Comcast for internet but do not use their equipment and my internet is rock solid. There are other people on this forum all the time complaining about Comcast service for TV, Phone and internet.

Srry was in rush with last post.
Fell behind on bill 50 days we carried a balance. Other bills more important at the moment. We got service shut off. We paid next day and had service restored. While paying used the online chat for xfinity and asked about the random disconnects we had been getting for about a week. He said they use software that shuts off all service momentarily to annoy customers into paying. He said we paid enough to have service but still had some balance so in 3 days the program would start disconecting us again which is when the next month would be due. This again started and happens typically for a few moments during high bandwith use in the house so the program from what im seeing monitoring it really tries to annoy the whole house. The more bandwith we use the more likely it will shut off service.

Sigh...anyone else having issues with Comcast tonight? Initially after 8pm tonight the internet was spotty with the connection cutting out frequently. Now we have no cable as of around 10pm...message says " One moment please. This channel should be available shortly." on all channels on all our cable boxes. Grrr!!

First outtage over an hour for a very long time.

If you ever need to check on status of what's going on, instructions are here:

https://customer.xfinity.com/help-and-support/internet/view-outages-my-account

You can also put their App on your iPad/iPhone or Android and it will do the same thing over the cell line.

Hot spot definitely uses data plan. That's why I've got Sprint without any data limits and it doesn't matter to me if I need the hot spot in a pinch.

Call Comcast - and speak to rep and request a credit to your account for the outage. I Received a $20.00 credit to my account.

htownnewbie htownnewbie
Sep '15

Wow, $20! I called to request a credit and initially they offered me $4.80. By then end of my call, they bumped it up to $10. I'm happy with that. Every little bit helps and it's better than nothing.

I did the "on line chat" method and they do have a valid outage number that you get credit for. They say it's "one day" worth which could mean different things to different people depending on which services you have. For me it was $10.75.

But one way or the other, everyone out can get a credit.

We had no phone / internet / or television. out at around 8 and back on at like 5 am
