Warren County in the News 2015

I thought we should have a news thread for Warren County news outside of Hackettstown since many of us live in the "suburbs". ;-)

Sadly, more animal mistreatment locally. The writers for the Express Times really need to improve their skills. The title is confusing. The layout of the article and pics also make it seem like The Barnyard Sanctuary was where the abuse was, instead of the truth that The Barnyard Sanctuary is helping the abused animals.

Updated article. At least 75 animals were found dead at the two locations. These people need to be locked up for the death and mistreatment of these animals, not to mention the mistreatment of their own children. Scum, for sure!

On April 4, 2015 at 11:59 pm an officer stopped a vehicle being operated by Glenn A Wilkinson (48) of Port Murray for an equipment violation. The officer detected the odor of an alcoholic beverage and the driver performed several field sobriety tests before being arrested for driving while intoxicated. He was issued summonses for DWI, maintenance of lamps, and failure to exhibit documents. He was released to a responsible adult pending a court appearance.

Hikers lost in Washingtown Twp.? Not sure how a 54 year old and two 17 year old kids got lost enough at Lake Marguerite and Griffith Woods that multiple emergency personnel needed to respond. This area is borders Brass Castle Road and Jonestown Road which are quite busy. There are tons of houses all around the edges of the area. I have hiked in there tons or times and can always hear some kind of noise from the "outside world".

I was in Kittatiny sp yesterday and the map provided does not include all side trails. I did use my phone map to get a better idea of which trail would lead to a certain wetland. That and the road sounds from 206 helped.

Bothered - Both are very nice. The parking area is at Lake Marguerite (near the corner of Jonestown and Brass Castle, by the old Roaring Rock restaurant). There is a lake there and then marked trails that lead through Griffith Woods. The land was donated by a doctor to the Township years ago. Daisy loves going for walks through there and swimming in the lake.

Calico, it could have been a mom and daughter and friend or even a grandma or something.

Glad they were found.

I've never heard of it either, that said I don't know where a lot of places like that are.

littlelu littlelu
Jun '15

Coralie - My point was that a 5 minute walk in any direction would have produced either the sighting of a home or road noise. I know those woods very well, it would be impossible for 3 people of that age to get lost there IMO. I think they panicked prematurely.

Calico696 Calico696
Jun '15

So are a mom, daughter, and grandma not capable enough to go on a hike in the woods by themselves? Perhaps they should be kept at home in the kitchen then? Why do women use that line of logic? Do you realize what you're implying?

If you're not familiar with a wooded area, I'm sure it could be frightening. Wasn't there a story a few years back where someone got lost in a corn maze and had to get "rescued?"

I would think having a walking GPS app on your phone is a given these days.

Oh wait, there is one thing. Police wanted to harass my DH because he didn't come to a "complete" stop in front of Kohls. By the way, you don't have to. The sign reads"Stop for pedestrians crossing the road" If no one is crossing, you can do a slow "rolling" stop. And they know that. SMH!

pampurr pampurr
Jul '15

Not being a lawyer (if I was i guess that i'd be running the American Legion baseball league to my team's advantage), my take on it is that you don't have to come to a complete stop even if there are people crossing (of course not to hit them.)

How does Kohl's have the right to put up such a sign? What if every store in that strip mall did that?
