A day without Ernie is a day without "Sunshine". ;-)

Class, dignity, and skill always.

Looks like a doubleheader is scheduled at the Field of Dreams tomorrow...

He was Mr. Cub and everybody liked him, I mean everybody.

I remember hearing the cheers he got when the Cubs came to Philadelphia ...
if they cheer you in PHILADELPHIA ... you're a Saint.

He was introduced at the 1993 All-Star Game in Baltimore and the O's fans gave him a great "O-vation" to welcome him. It gave me chills to be part of that.

Yep, Shoeless Joe, Eddie Cicotte, meet Mr. Cub, never a nicer person in baseball.

"You generate happiness within yourself. If you aren't happy where you are, chances are you won't be happy anywhere else." ... words of wisdom from Ernie Banks.

Also, I remember him saying on Kiner's Korner (another guy who is hitting them out at that corn field in Iowa)...

"The Cubs are due in 62"

"The Cubs will thrive in 65"

"The Cubs will be great in 68"

"The Cubs will shine in 69"

Well, can't hold optimism against anybody.

Of all the great players I have seen in my 60 years of being a baseball fan he is at the top of my list as the most special player that there ever was. Talent, humility, and a great sense of humor not to mention his perennial sunny outlook on life. The world will miss this gentle soul.

The blizzard passed us by,

LET'S PLAY TWO

They've got to have a doubleheader at Wrigley in Ernie's honor this year,
they've just GOT TO.
