Knechel Ford

What's going on at Knechels? Lots of dumpsters and activity. Sorry- it'll never be Hackettstown Ford...

I saw them throwing all those chairs and desks in the garbage. What a shame.

nothing has been finalized/confirmed about what is going into the site. There have been talks about another micro brew moving in to the front building. Too early to discuss what might be moving into the back building.

Hi folks, actually it's been confirmed that Dollar General is coming in the front sales space, can't confirm the back space just yet!

Boo is right. :P

Why darwin? I though you were all for businesses who want to add to our business district?, especially ones who want to fill vacant space.....much like CVS dollar general is just another chain store.

Not a fan of Dollar General. BUT remember this is NOT a Dollar Store. We had one in the strip mall on Rt.57 next to I Hop and that did not last.

Re: Knechel Ford

Dollar General is a limited assortment cheap store.Go to the one in Washington NJ. You have to push a button to call the cashier to the register. By the way thats when the button works. Absolute crap.

A tipical look at the world we live in if the desks were put out with a free sign on them they would be gone in a day or two

What ever happened to the great little antiques stores in the town?

Grace Y
Jan '15

the desks are still in there, and lots of chairs which the owner will sell, broken walls and flooring were in the dumpster, don't know who saw good desks in the them, unless you climbed up and looked inside

Yuck. I was hoping for a car dealership. That Mitsubishi dealership wasn't even here for a full month, it seemed. We need a Volkswagen or maybe a lincoln.

You are correct CA..many people are into repurposing things these days. You can give just about anything away.

Bessie Bessie
Jan '15

There will be no new car dealership at that location -- those days are gone...

I physically saw them throwing chairs in the dumpster. Not sure if they were broken or not.

The Dollar General in Washington on rt. 31 is horrible. Check and know your prices! The Dollar Tree by Shoprite is much better and cheaper.

The Main street crowd is gonna love it .

Give them a chance to open the store in town, everone is always complaining about the vacant stores in town, maybe you don't like the store,,so don't go to it, but there is a big difference between the Dollar tree and the Dollar plus store that use to be on Mtn Ave.
Dollar General has a lot more then just $1 items, go to the one in Newton, its a good run store, this one will be like it.
Gosh,

Sally Jo
Jan '15

look at there web site and see the difference, maybe we will not have to waste our time and gas to run to Wal-Mart for everything

It is showing you the quality of merchandise and economic downturn of lower income clientele this town is now catering to!! Not a good thing!

Dollar General should do well on that side of town, there is nothing over there like it !
The great news is, it has parking for customers,

I get a lot of things at the Dollar General in Washington. I don't find it that "junky". It's definitely better than the Family Dollar store by the diner. I buy all my greeting cards there since they are so reasonable. Usually either 50 cents or $1. They are decent cards too.

Doesn't the car detailing business occupy some of the Knechel Ford building too? Bought a certificate from there as a Christmas gift, hope they aren't moving.

I'm with Calico and others. We shop both of the Dollar General stores in Newton and Washington and have been happy with our purchases there...

I guess ill be meeting you (joyful and Calico and a few others) when the store opens.

The car detailing is in a different part of the building to the side

I heard a Brewery will be opening in the back, pretty much done deal! That should do well, craft beers, who knows maybe even Hackettstown Light!

I heard Napa Auto Parts was taking over the building, but the I got the facts from this forum and here they are .......

The back part where the offices are is going to be Hackettstown's fourth Quick Chek.

Front part is going to be Dollar General and the middle a Rite-Aid/Echert Combo with a McDonalds, Burger King, Pizza and Wendy's kiosk.

Awesome. Just what we need to go with the cash-for-gold place, and the pre-paid calling card/airline ticket/payday loan place. Main Street is really shaping up!

im just gonna put this out there . . . .

i like the dollar general, they're ok in my book,

im tired of those really fancy stores like target and kohls.

i like the dollar tree too, and the buddy's small lots,

i still like the 5 acre flea market also, so go figure . . . .

Target and Kohls are fancy stores? Makes me feel good that I shop in fancy stores.

Any mention of "Dollar' brings out that persons own opinion. The name in some form or other applies to a number of different franchises, each to be judged on their own merits.
That being said,I certainly hope BID,the Town and everyone else has higher aspirations for Main Street!!.Panic to fill every potential ratable is an invitation to sleaze(refer Bergen Tool)

I am used to and enjoy driving to other areas to go to "fancy" stores. That is just the reality of living in this beautiful area. It is less economically advantaged here but I need to be near trees every day, lots of them, or I feel disoriented. But of course I enjoy working in big towns that have fancy restaurants and stores like Trader Joe's, just for the variety. There is nothing wrong with a Dollar General on Main Street; get over yourselves, HL elitists! Dollar General is needed here much more than another CVS.

If anyone spends any amount of time on Pinterest, you can see that many of the supplies used to make these projects come from Dollar type stores. I think they have their place in most towns.

Spring Fever Spring Fever

The newer Dollar General stores have a nice limited selection of Dairy and Frozen foods along with there other general merchandise, wont have to run over to Wal-Mart for everything, the one in Newton is set up nice. Its also in the old Acme store building

Sally Jo
Jan '15

It's a store. It's just a store. If you like it shop there, if not don't. It will either survive or not because it meets people's needs or it doesn't. I don't understand why the Shoprite employees are so scared of it.

Any update on what will occupy the space in the back of Dollar General? Heard rumblings of another brewery?

I have it on good authority that it's going to be another brewery. Can't say how I know this, though.

The BID should think about an Oktoberfest type event....now that may generate buzz for Htown and draw some crowds to Main St

Brewery is Correct - Czig Meister - and there are plans in the works for an Oktoberfest, not definite date, but there is a group working on it!

Oh and Auto Perfection is moving to High Street (the original Kevil location) so they will now have a beautiful space too!

Looks like nothing going on at Knechel Ford and now there is a realtor sign for "2 commercial buildings" out front.

http://newjerseycraftbeer.com/breweries-brewpubs/czig-meister-brewing-company/
They were supposed to be going in that location, and there was so much work being done for quite a while. Now it looks like no work is happening, and there is a FOR SALE sign out front for 2 commercial buildings.

What happened?

I saw a sign at the Stanhope Dollar General on Friday that said they started hiring for the Hackettstown store.

Ydnew Ydnew
Jul '15

Those "For Sale" signs have been there a good while. The building is still in the process of being sold. There are 2 businesses that will be leasing the property once the sale is finalized. One of those business seems to be the Dollar General (this was the place where the construction was being done). The other business is Czig Meister Brewing. I was talking with Matt (the owner of the brewery) the other day at the Homebrew University and he said he has to wait for the sale to finish before he can start his construction. He said hes been waiting for a while for this sale to finalize but has hopes that he will be in there soon.
