A word we don't hear very often and use it in a sentence..
Fascinate
Her boobs were so big, out of 10 buttons on her shirt, she could only fascinate.
Pedantic
Sometimes, Jason is so pedantic in writing the perfect paper that he forgets to properly manage his time.
Paradigm.
This past Tuesday's election results will lead to a paradigm shift in Congress.
-or-
This past Tuesday's election results are unlikely to lead to a paradigm shift in Congress.
-or-
I got a paradigm's as change from a $10.00 bill when I bought the $9.80 word.
Sen. Sam Ervin, chairman of the Senate Watergate committee and a man of many words when a few would have done, described big oil and gas companies that expected something for their fat campaign contributions.
"These are not eleemosynary institutions," Ervin intoned.
Love that!
"winner"
"Whip.......you're not as much the loser as you appear to be"
^see............even my example couldn't use it.
Just for you, joyful (-;
officious
Condescending to dictate to others how they should choose to celebrate a particular holiday is an extremely officious thing to do.
or
Mike Tyson knocked out Marvis Frazier with officious uppercut.
It's really hard to dig graves this time of year; one man can't do it, you need a pair-a-dig-ems.
supercalifragilisticexpecalidocious
The song Mary Poppins sang in the movie was: Supercalifragilisticexpecalidocious.
confounded - I dislike sitting in the confounded bridge construction traffic in Broadway.
Pmnsk, obfuscate is a favorite of mine, appropriate far more often than not.
Conflate is another good one that's not use too often.
Persnickety:
She was so persnickety that we must have gone to 15 stores to look for the exactly right earrings.
Calamity
A calamity could happen when HL posters express their true feelings about a HL thread that they have extremely different views about..
Joyful- Lol...my dad use to use "tarnation" ALL the time. You brought back memories for me. Thanks :)
Peggy C: Boy, did the word "fur" bring back memories.... My Mom used to say: Fur? Cat fur....Did you ever see it on dog fur? Made no sense at all....
Joyful-is he from the south? My dad was from Texas, so I thought maybe it was a southern word.
Anyhow
It's OK if we don't go to the movie. I'm not that interested in seeing it anyhow.
We were told not to go, but went anyhow.
lollygagging -
production output is lower than last month because some employees are lollygagging around instead of working
Your "chuckle" for the day: The word "khakis"
For most people when you lose your "khakis"..you've lost your pants. When you live in Boston or Maine and lose your "khakis"...you cannot start your car.....
licentious
Rob Ford's licentious behavior resulted in the voters forcing him out of office.
Brotherdog, we use "lollygag" to describe the sense of urgency our dog has when she is looking for the perfect place to potty on a warm sunny day! LOL!
... I love this thread..... so fun!! Dickering, Cockamamie (never knew how to spell that one!), tarnation, persnickity, conflate, paradigm....
thank you OP!
britches:
The girl who talked back to her mom in Shop-Rite was getting too big for her britches.
This one is from my 4 year old grandson. Apparently he heard it from a Harry Potter movie (he is obsessed)
Hither........ Gammy come hither!
LOL!! Love that kid!!
20 years ago "penultimate" was a friend's favorite word for a while.
It means "next to last" in a line or series.
I was the cashier's penultimate customer before she went on break.
Apparently it's also an digital app for ipad which allows you to "handwrite" on it.
