My Mom use to go to him my self and my husband. I did not care for him he is a pill pusher.
He also told my mom that her kidneys were fine but they are not fine she has kidneys of a 90 year old woman.

Dr Kavathia has no bedside manner. He admitted me to the hospital a year ago and managed to alienate a few family members. He also is an attending Dr at Health Village and does not get rave reviews there. I hope it works out for you

My wife and I left him because he wasn't very professional. Joking around about test results...

Wow, I've been going to him for years and family too. I only go for general reasons, no serious issues but I've never had a problem with him. He always seems professional to me. He had to take a phone call while I was in the room and he apologized for that and I can't agree that he's a pill pusher. I requested some meds years ago and he wouldn't give them..anxiety meds. I don't know. I have no issues and will continue to see him.

RUN....if you want a decent, caring doc for an elder try Dr Richard Senzer in Washington. He took very good care of my mother in law for years,he is on the board at the hospital & I have really never heard anything off putting about him. Good Luck..

I have to say that every one relates to some one different than the next person so look at it this with open minds

I agree with the comment to stay away! He is also the doctor for Colonial Manor in Panther Valley. He prescribed heart medication for my 90 year old father-in-law (he is normally in great health for his age) that made his ankles swell so badly he was having trouble walking. The good Dr told him that was just a normal side effect-so the medicine is working. When I took him to a cardiologist I was told yes this is a side effect of the medicine but there was other drugs you can take that work the same but do not have such a bad side effect. Needless to say we don't see dr. Kavathia any more. Another bad thing is I just got a $125 bill from them the other day-2 years since we have been seeing him-they have got to be kidding!!!

He took over ( or bought ) Dr. Markovich's practice. There was no patient notification which in my opinion is very unprofessional on both their parts. You found out when you called the office. My husband was just released from the hospital with new meds. He had many questions and went to the office which is when he found out Dr.Kavathia took over the practice. Dr Markovich prescribed the meds the day before and never said a word about leaving. Dr. Kavathia knew nothing about them or my husband's problems. So he just basically dismissed him, told him to take the pills and sent him home. That was the LAST time we went there. When I went to get his records (another long story) the staff was very rude. I have the feeling they were getting many requests for the records of patients leaving.

That is my personal experience.

I suffered for years with sharp pains in the center of my chest. Went to three different gastro doctors. None of them could diagnose what the problem was. I then moved to Panther Valley and started going to Dr. Kavathia. He was the first and only doctor that had the idea it was a gall bladder problem. Had the test and sure enough he was right. I had my gall bladder removed and I'm finally not suffering from these terrible attacks.

I really like Dr. Kavathia and I never got the impression he was a pill pusher.

Engaging with the elderly is bound to get some negative posts...

I am in my mid twenties and feel that he is the most unprofessional doctor i have ever met. I was extremely unhappy with his care. He first tried to force me off a medication that my neurologists had prescribed for chronic migraines without having any knowledge of my previous health records. Joked around VERY INAPPROPRIATELY about tests results. I finally decided to leave him as my physician when he called my husband with blood tests results instead of me- I had never signed anything saying he could release that medical information and I never even received a call myself- I believe that is against the law.

Hey, the guy cam from India right... the land of 1001 ways to die...

My insurance assigned me Dr. Kavathia. I read up on him through Yelp.com etc, but decided to go see him at least once, with an open mind. Wow.... it would take 20 minutes to tell of my experience. The result, I'm actually SWITCHING insurance companies to get a better selection of physicians. I think that says it all. He truly did live DOWN to his poor reputation. BTW, I don't care WHICH nationality a doctor is from. My **favorite** specialist is from India, I have been that Dr's patient for 8 years.

Again, as his patient for over 5 years, I've never experienced anything negative with Dr. Kavathia.

Wow, I'm actually surprised with all the negative criticism. Like I said, I have been a patient for years and never had issues with him...always professional imo. I also don't or never had "serious" health issues either.

I was originally with Marckovich (like Tanya stated earlier)....I had no problems with him and actually had to move to another practice due to insurance changes. So after 4 years somewhere else, I returned to Dr. K last year. I have always found him to be thorough (especially having been somewhere else for 4 yrs) and not to be a pill pusher. I am disappointed in what I read about in terms of the Medicare issue.

When I compare Dr. K with my wife's primary in terms of being sick and needing an appointment, Dr. K's office wins hands down......I have always been able to get in when sick within a day of calling.

Summerhelp- Dr. Markovich is a woman.....

Did Dr Kovathia perform the sex change on Dr Markovich.. Did he do a good job or should a separate thread be started?

Tiger parent you need to get your own personal experience with this doctor or any other doctor for that matter. If you keep reading the posts most of them are negative for the majority of the doctors. I have not read a Dr. review yet that does not have several negative reviews.

Nov '14

I agree with Angela. I have worked with Dr's since 1979. and believe me ,everyone has an opinion good or bad,but it should be based on personal experience . You have to find the right Dr. for you...for me Dr Kavathia has been great. Make an appointment,go and meet him and decide for yourself...

Greg and Jerseycash 5,

I know but I did not say that she wasnt.....I started with Markovich and ended that thought and moved to Dr K. which is what the thread is about.

If you continued to read you would see that I was with Markovich, Dr K, then somewhere else for 4 yrs and then back to K as of a year ago.

So, not sure when Markovich left but if you know you could take 2014 and subtract the 4 years I wasn't with Dr. K due to insurance reasons and then take the year she left and come up with the total number of years I have been with Dr. K.

"I was originally with Marckovich (like Tanya stated earlier)....I had no problems with him and actually had to move to another practice due to insurance changes."

A reader could come to no other conclusion after reading the above that Dr. Markovich was a male. Therefore at least for, me there would be no reason to attempt to decipher a time frame or what doctor was being referenced. I just happened to be reading the thread and noticed Dr. Markovich referred to as a male. I had been a patient of hers in the past and laughed to myself that's all.

Greg....10-4.....

When writing in a conversational format (me and my "...." to separate thoughts) things can get lost.

I only saw Dr. M for a short while before Dr. K was on the scene.....seems to me that they were both there for a little while and then Dr. M was gone. I couldn't tell you how long ago that was but I feel like it was 15+ years.

I will reiterate that I had no idea about the license issue and am surprised. Having said that, I think that I receive good care from him.

I've been a patient of his for seven years now and have never had a problem. I have many health issues and he addresses them all with kindness and professionalism.

After over a year of telling my mom that she had allergies, arthritis, anxiety, etc. she was dead after 3 weeks when we brought her to the hospital bc Kavathia would not order a chest X-ray. My mom was in stage 4 lung cancer, spread throughout her body. She was dilligent about her Heath, going to Kavathia every 2-3 months, yet despite the multiple symptoms she listed, never a chest X-ray, ordered after being a smoker for 40+ years, ( having quit for 20 years). When Kavathia saw us at the ER, he asked, "what brought you here?" SHE CAN'T BREATHE WITHOUT PAIN!
PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE KEEP AWAY FROM KAVATHIA

I do not use the good Dr. but had a short encounter with Dr. M. previously who indeed has a long controversial record.

There may be complaints about Dr. K but one must remember that ticked off people tend to write faster than happy people. Plus when dealing in geriatrics, diagnosis is harder, chance of loss greater and it's human nature to assign blame upon loss.

Not saying anyone here is wrong, but the Consumer Affairs link is gone, you can't search there successfully on the Dr.'s name or business name. BBB has him under a A+ rating with no complaints and no governmental actions pending. Granted he's got no reviews either but BBB will investigate complaints if you lodge them. Certainly you should pursue given some of the suspected giant misses noted above.

Beyond that he's got a low number of reviews on the ratings sites with a middle of the road rating and plenty of naysayers. Usually that means grain of salt time for me and if I was going and satisfied, I would continue. If something serious pops, I would second opinion. Just saying.....

He Sucks! He treated me like I was stuppid! I had to bring my sister in with me to get him to refer me to get a scan of my thyroid. He said, (referring to my sister) "She's smarter then you." So I went to another Dr. nearby to him, and he wasn't good neither. I finally went to a Heart Dr. that at the time took my insurance. But now I go to Zufall, thank God!

Looks like the complaints noted from the last link above are 1 from 2010, 1 from 2011, 1 from 2012, and 2 from 2014. That's five complaints in a 5 year period. I go to Dr. K and have no complaints, so this is in his defense. However, I would never go to my husband's doctor if he was the last MD on earth, who misdiagnosed my husband for two years until the 'specialist' we finally went to cleared everything up with a simple blood test. Unfortunately, my husband thinks this doctor walks on water and extends every excuse for him.

I say run so fast. That man told me my mom needs a blood transfusion. Then he asked me what is your mom name again. So I said it again. He said oh sorry I was reading the wrong person. Just run and FYI they use that jack ass in the House of Good Shepherd. Made my mom wait 5 days to get test results back for a uti and then treated it. She was there for rehab she had a knee replacement
