In Need of Historical Photos of Warren County
Hi, I am looking for some help. My senior capstone project for college is going to be a photo essay that involves photographs around Warren County. I am in need of any historical photos people may have of Hackettstown/Washington/Chester/Belvidere/Etc. Pretty much any place that I can drive to and take a picture of what it is now. If anyone has any pictures they are willing to share plus a little blurb about the history of the place that would be appreciated. Again, this is just for my capstone and these photos will only be used for the project. Thanks!
Idea: I would go here http://www.nj.gov/dep/gis/depsplash.htm# and launch the iMap. Then compare aerial views of Warren County in 1930's with what they look like now. For example - this is a part of Htown in 1930's.
This is the same exact part in 2007. Kind of neat to compare them, and an aerial view might be a very unique take on the development in the county.
Before anyone says it, I know Chester isn't Warren County, but it is close enough that I can drive and photograph.
The Hackettstown Historical Society keeps photo archives of the local area. They might be a good resource for you: www.hackettstownhistory.com/society.shtml
John C, awesome! I know there is a "Growing Up in Washington" page but I wasn't sure if other towns also had them. This is really helpful guys. I am obviously going to make my rounds to historical societies, but this does take a little burden off of having to travel so much because I do also work, intern, and am a full-time student. :-)
Here's a link to the forum search citing "postcards". If you follow the links, a number of them will have posted pictures of different scenes from Hackettstown and the area. Another idea is to check out the library for the "Postcard History Books" (which are also available in bookstores as well). They have a good number of photos and have some history of the places depicted.

Best of luck with your project!
Google: postcards Hackettstown NJ
then click on IMAGES
also do the same in eBay
Right click the images one at a time and SAVE AS
Happy collecting!
Might be some stuff in the Library of Congress on-line archives. Just go to their site and query the database. I see photos from around Hackettstown and Chester - no Belvidere. http://www.loc.gov/pictures/
There's a ton of photos of the Lackawanna Cut-off railroad that runs from Port Morris through Warren County into PA. It was built circa 1910 and ceased operation in the early 80's. Look up the Lackawanna Cutoff Historical Committee or the Knowlton Blairstown Twps page on Facebook. There are a ton of photos of it being built. And the two viaducts (Paulinskill and Delaware River) are great for pictures, then and now.
