Panhandlers Under Brooklyn Bridge

Did anyone else see the story on Fox 5 this morning? Panhandlers were chased away from living under the Brooklyn bridge. The panhandlers said they make about $60 a day. Damn! Think I will quit my pt job and take up "panhandling". Unbelievable! Generous NYers.

There was a story a few years back I think in the post where they followed a panhandler back to there BMW and watched them drive home to there beautiful brownstone. They pulled tax returns and they were legit claiming taxes and all and I think it was a little over 100k .

I saw that. The woman crying made me a bit sad, but when I heard how much they make, I realized they could pay rent with that kind of cash. Not in NY, but if they went to Dover or something they could live in an apartment. For any of the sane ones, they don't have to be homeless really.

My main point of this thread was how much money a day these people make. Thats why I called it making a living. Moderator changed the name, so that change doesnt represent what point I was trying to get across. Oh well!

I'm amazed that someone can afford a BMW and a beautiful brownstone on a little over 100k per year.

Every business you got into now panhandles with the little tip jar...never saw that 10 years ago.

Saw the story - they are getting kicked out cause these idiot Russian's keep climbing the thing & now they upped security and kicked out the homeless people living under it.

Even at DD they have a tip jar at drive-up window. Lol

Out in San Diego, there are panhandlers near a Costco. The town wanted to pay them x amount of dollars to stop panhandling there and the panhandlers also said they make more money panhandling than what the town was offering; so there they remain.

i know musicians who have set up on a street corner or on a subway platform, open their case, play a few songs, and lots of people dropping ones and fives into the open case,

one guy i met made over 200 dollars just at lunch time, not bad at all, i stopped by and sang a couple songs with him, this was in philly down in the subway station, (he knew all the stylistics songs, i love those tunes) he was making dough hand over fist, wow!

BDog: That's not panhandling, that's Busking! Buskers work for their money and some are well worth it. In NYC there are even guides and top ten lists. Their "trade" is even protected by the 1st amendment.

In NYC, the MTA even holds auditions to allot the 20 best spaces through Music Underground New York (MUNY).

Subject to disturbance laws and other weird charges, there's even a protection web site: http://buskny.com/my-rights/

Some make up to $80K on a good year.
