NJ Public Reform 2014

http://www.nj.com/politics/index.ssf/2014/07/christie_kicks_off_no_pain_no_gain_summer_tour.html#incart_m-rpt-1

Christie is starting the process now, we can no longer put our heads in the sand or kick the can down the road...

Typical nonsense from a blowhard do nothing politician.. Insteade of pandering to a national audience Mabey Christie should do something productive... The public employees made their contributions so maybe the state should should to... This guy is an absolute joke!!!

Isn't Christie trying to break, not some misguided promise of foolish politicians of the past, but rather his own promise that he previously ballyhooed?

When he first took office, I applauded his goal of cutting spending (even though I didn't vote for him.) Since then, he's proven that his words are hollow.

Yes, the pensions, the grossly absurd payouts for sick days, union contracts, etc. all need to get fixed. However, we also have:

1) Helicopter rides for personal business
2) His cronies getting hired with crazy salaries and double dipping pensions
3) Giving taxpayer money (when the tax payer is struggling) to repair private businesses (isn't that what insurance is for?)

He's simply taking money away from one group and handing it to another when he should be handing it back to the taxpayer.

Sorry, but the guy had his chance.

"starting the process now" - Years too late to be credible. What's he going to start next, car insurance reform?? Not even close.

"We can't kick the can down the road..."

...said the guy who kicked the can down the road.

It will be interesting considering he looks to be on a national stage. Therefore, if he wants to be Prez, he can't afford to totally alienate all government workers, and their friends, like he has so far in NJ with his bullydog personality.

Clearly something has to be done. Probably for new and younger workers while grandfathering older ones with some sort of "you can profit" shill plan that cuts payments but gives younger workers upside via investment. IE, trade-in your guaranteed pension for upside potential with risk.

Wonder if he will go for other bene's too? If he does, I would expect he targets them to be "commensurate" with the private sector.

But because of the national stage, I would expect a more "balanced and fair" prudent approach without the normal Christie histrionics

Mistergoogle you are right when you say something needs to be done... The state should pay into the pension funds all the money they have neglected to pay over the last 20 years or so... If they pay their portion and the fund is insolvent then Mabey talk about cutting benefits and payments to retires.... Christie has no plan or foresight into how to fix the problem so he is doing the easiest thing possible... Crying Wolf!!!!

Yes, we need to pay into the fund but that can not happen overnight and must be done at the same time the pension is re-engineered.

Just like we SHOULD pay this...

Wow and he is going to collect $163,800 yearly pension. The former chief who retired two years ago and received a $319,000 payout for unused time. And the kicker is he is now the Bayonne Public Safety Director. Another double dipper. When will the insanity end?
