Psycho Killer --by-- Talking Heads
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pA1oFSMwRDU
yes this song was released in the 70's but I like the lyrics they go with and against a curmudgeonly poster as read above and I think the Talking Heads can be considered an 80's band
in honor of it being BASEBALL SEASON again!

I'll put up three videos from 85 that all involved a mystical cross-over from a mundane imperfect life on this earth into a world of excitement, romance, and feeling like you'll live forever.
The first one is from the Norwegian group A-ha and it features a girl who was sitting in a coffee shop reading a comic book .... and then ...
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=djV11Xbc914
In this one, Martha Davis gets away from her unhappy life by seeing her alter ego on a billboard and taking a big, bold step into the great beyond ...

Who's gonna drive you home? -- The Cars

Africa - Toto. Only Toto could work the lyrical magic to fit too many syllables into a verse and pull it off. :)
I Want to Know What Love Is - Foreigner
What walk down the '80s memory lane would be complete without a trip to the mosh pit? The pits at Exodus were always over the top violent... but usually respectful at the same time. If you went down in the pit, you were just as likely to get a hand up as a boot in the face.
Exodus - Bonded by Blood (1985)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tjTrr7wiVeI
The band Fear caused a riot on Saturday Night Live back in 1982 with this performance. NBC shut down the show several minutes early because of this. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Frud5RFtTi0
Get Crazy the movie from 1983. Lee Ving sings " Hoochie Coochie Man" with audience participation. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oWPKeDs4P_I
Rosanna -- Toto ... so much going on in this song, really amazing.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qmOLtTGvsbM

Elvis Costello- Don't Let Me Be Misunderstood
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-JlfiDGVB9s
Did the mosh pit thing once, and only once, and that was once to much lol. I was at a Ramones concert at the time, and I'm sure they played this song:
I Wanna be Sedated

QUICK TRIVIA QUIZ:
What band does the former singer of Fastway, currently front? (no looking it up!)
Nice!! Flogging Molly ROCKS!!
Or jigs, or reels,..... or whatever you call that ;)
Out of all his great songs, this is my favorite Springsteen tune, because we are the same age and I grew up just 10 miles south, down highway 9, from where he did.
I can relate to the events he's singing about.

There were two songs not allowed in my parents house, one by 2 Live Crew and one by Sir Mix A lot. If you know who they are, I'm sure you know the songs. Sitting at my desk hysterical laughing because I can remember driving around in a friends car and all of us singing them at the top of our lungs. Good Times!!
I am going home and taking out my guitar after work. I do so many of the songs listed and have not had time to play. Thanks for the thread and the memories. What great songs.

Blade Runner -- A massively awesome movie
Lay your hands on me -- The Thompson Twins
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vYBHPYKeU1c
I think I'm the biggest U2 fan there is... Right from Boy..but Achtung Baby is undeniably the best album and that didn't come out until '91... I've Stalked them, travelled all over to be at every single east coast show front row, on the floor, center stage you name it! One of the original fan club members when they used to send out oversized paper magazines to keep us fans in the loop way before the internet was even a concept!! Lol
However if you are going to do the 80's
You have to mention....
The Buggles " video killed the radio star" ( 1st video to air on MTV back when MTV showed videos)
George Michael " I want your sex"
Toni Basil " oh Mickey!"
Tracy chapman " fast cars" ( that whole album was fab!)
Dire Straits "( money for nothing"
The Smiths
Morrissey
Stacey Q " two of hearts"
Huey Lewis& the News " I want a new drug"
Oh I could go on and on
Not sure about the best, but most of the worst music ever made (before today-we are approaching uncharted waters in that respect) came out of the '80s.
Video killed the radio star. Napster killed rock and roll.
The 80s were the decade of Gorby and Glasnost, which led the Pet Shop Boys to do this video, which is only notable for the historical context.
In hockey it was "do you believe in miracles?"
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7NZ04BG7TfA&feature=kp
Circle in the sand -- Belinda Carlisle
http://www.dailymotion.com/video/x1vd2r_belinda-carlisle-circle-in-the-sand_music
Genesis Land of Confusion
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_XjAAmGoGq8
(continuing the Gorby connection with Reagan)
It's a mistake -- Men at Work
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TACsTyUC5_U&feature=kp
Manic Monday -- The Bangles
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XbHxwFxdXXc&feature=kp
Baby I love your way -- Will to Power
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=blcpPDGCWUo&feature=kp
Shattered dreams -- Johnny Hates Jazz
I think this video is creative, very good (a lot of them are like, huh? What was that?)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ctwqa3QCwMw&feature=kp
Here comes the rain again -- The Eurythmics
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cC9OhK2Ovw0

Motörhead yes, name changing no.

What's Angel Witch without a little Diamond Head chaser?
Diamond Head - Am I Evil?
https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=TVid_fLzN5g
One of the wild cards, just outside of the Big 4... Overkill and Exodus would be in this group as well.
"Join the insanity or die as you fall... In-to-the-pit"
Testament - into the Pit
https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=ePEFBxDGRw8
Vastly underrated... King Diamond got a lot more notoriety as a solo artist; but he never put out anything as good as this:
Mercyful Fate - Into the Coven
https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=LyRao18lxX4
Mercyful Fate Melissa was the best IMHO. Fate was better than anything King Diamond did solo:
Does not get much better than this:

Reunion with Metallica in 2011:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JvVmPmM3M3w
99.999% of the bands today could not put together such quality Metal songs as Fate, they are better than Metallica if that is saying anything :)
To me Mercyfate's best is actually the Melissa (ie Denner) version of Curse of the Pharoahs - the duel (sic) guitar part and the bridge will knock you down every time. The first two recordings of it however were pretty darn dry, one of which is on the "In the Beginning" from the Burning the Crosses demo.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ld3PWrd8sbE
This band was a trailblazer in the early days before NWOBHM ultimately evolved into the American thrash metal scene... They formed in 1980, but it was quite a few years later before they got their first record deal.
Metal Church - Metal Church
http://m.youtube.com/watch?v=6fLN0Nypji8
Before Pete Steele went goth with Type O Negative, he was a post apocalyptic caveman in a band called Carnivore...
Carnivore - Thermonuclear Warrior

Maneater -- Hall and Oates
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yRYFKcMa_Ek&feature=kp

Do They Know It's Christmas -- Band Aid 1984
This was the new Christmas song that was getting all kinds of air play on this date 30 years ago (I feel like Rich Appel doing this) ... contributions from all the big name British artists of the era.

The Power of Gold -- Dan Fogelberg and Tim Weisberg
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8bxiI47Q12s
Has this 80s music thread managed to get all this way without Billie Jean and Thriller being mentioned?!
They've been mentioned now. As for me, I like to bring in songs I haven't heard on the radio for a long time, the forgotten under-rated songs that it takes an industrious DJ like Rich Appel to dust off and play.
