Assuming you're coming from south of Newton... Salt in Byram. Highly recommended.

Following btownguy's assumption - Black Forest Inn is another suggestion.

Andre's, right by the theater.

I have never been, but a lot of people seem to like Andre's Restaurant and it's a short walk from the theater

I personally like Thai Nam Phet 2 which is also within walking distance but certainly not as close as Andre's

The County Seat has very good food also.

Narin Thai is the best in town, and the new Thai Nam Phet on woodside. Also there is a cool dinner/drinks place called Trinity Lounge in town.

Trinity lounge right on spring Street Newton. Hop skip and a jump from theater. Good food. Nice atmosphere. Reasonably priced. Can't go wrong.

I've only been once, but really liked Krave.

Krave

Is Krave good? Drug reps bring their food to us once in a while and it always seems like the place tries so hard, with terrible results. I hope it's better when you eat there as opposed to having it catered.

Krave is fantastic.

Surprisingly there are a lot of decent places in or right near Newton. Everything mentioned is good. If you want an irish pub try O 'Reilly's which is walkable. Plus you have Casa Bellisima, a good Italian place a few miles down towards Andover. There are several others on Main st and 206 but I've never heard anything (bad or good) about them.

Definitely recommend Andre's. His brother Hans is a good friend of mine.

Tuscany Bistro on 206 just south of Newton is also good.

I went to Krave when they were at their old location, so it has been a while, but their food was really good. I'm not sure about Narin Thai but here is my 2 cents about them. We tried going there about a year ago. My wife left 2 voicemails trying to get a reservation and they never called us back. We decided to head over anyway. We got there and the lady said she would seat us shortly. 45 minutes to an hour later and it didn't look like anyone was ready to finish their meals so we left and went to Thai Nam Phet and the food was good. We saw 3 other couples had come that we're previously at Narin Thai. If you get near the theater a couple of hours early, maybe they would be worth a try. It's very small inside so if it's packed I probably wouldn't wait.

County Seat is good and not too far from the theater. It's a pub type environment.

Andre's ("where the Waldmere used to be") is your best bet.

Trinity is great. Just get there early because it fills up when there is a show.

I work in Newton and many clients and my co-workers say Trinity and Krave is really good.

Rootin Tootin Newton.

It's north of Newton proper, but the Chatterbox is a real fun place. It's where 206 and Route 15 meet, across the road from the Cardinals' old minor league ballpark.

They keep the real good oldies playing for background music. During the summer they have Saturday night car shows.

I agree with ready, I did not care for Tuscany Bistro. Salt is quite good, and I like Krave and Andres too.

True Jay. But I grew up up there and Newton was always pretty run down. It's improved a lot in the last 10 years and especially in the last 5.

If you are ever in Newton looking for breakfast, lunch, early dinner or brunch on the weekends, there is a new cafe -- 4Chicks Cafe located at 9 Moran St -- with fantastic food! It is owned by a very nice young couple. Service and food are wonderful. It is nice to have a relaxed coffee shop/cafe in town. We have had Chicken & Waffles, Cuban Sandwich, fantastic Waffles and French Toast. Highly recommend it!!!

Ooops! meant to include their website for anyone interested:
