Fall/Winter 2013 Pet Photos
Time to start a new thread, and post more pics of our pets! (Because we never get sick of looking at them, right?) This precious little thing isn't mine, but is up for adoption with P.A.L., and I got to meet and photograph her last week. I thought I would get her face out there... because someone is going to end up with this cutie as their pet!
A real little spitfire she is! Don't let her little stature and innocent face fool you. She's taking YOU for a walk! ;-)
Love everything about that shot, Nosila. Great Fall set-up. Beautiful colors. Leave it to Salem to hop in a little wagon!
Lucky- I hope you are enjoying your little sister
Rebecka- How old is that adorable pup?
You can find out more about Tiny by visiting the Pet Adoption League website at www.palpets.org. Also check out our photo contest we are having. Tiny is as adorable as she looks.
Thanks Rebecka for the beautiful photos you have taken of the PAL dogs.

I adopted him 4 years ago on October 11, 2009, here is a picture taken when he first arrived in NJ from a track in Massachusetts. This picture was taken one week before I brought him home.
PUPPPPPPPPYYYYYYYYYYYY!! Please tell me you are going to have a blog like last time.
And please tell me I'm welcome to come over for puppy kisses once they are here....Do you know how many??
Leila has just two little muffins in the oven.
Blog is all set up and ready to go!! Here: www.thepuppyroom.com
I included the blog of our past litter on it.
Thanks Calico. I actually did go to the link but when I saw what it was got so excited I immediately scrolled down to the photos without reading the heading! I followed the first blog and video whenever there was a post. Loved it!
Thanks for doing a blog again Rebecca! I will be a faithful follower!
just looked at the website - the dogs are gorgeous - so glad you're doing a live cam- I've done some watching of the great dane service dogs - on live cam - great to watch so I'll be waiting for yours, Rebecka
Fun times ahead. Sadie is not fixed and I contemplate waiting a year and letting her have one litter so I can cross it off the bucket list.
Beautiful dogs! Now I want another one. I have labs, but after seeing these gorgeous shepards, I am thinking my next will be one of yours! Can't wait to watch the cam and be a part of the birth!
Here is a pic which is only fabulous for one reason: the cat on the right, Wren, was almost completely not social (near feral, scared to death of everyone and everything) when she came to live with us a number of weeks ago. Now look at her! Dinner with friends! I actually bring the cat bowls into the livingroom and feed them in there, because Wren adopted the livingroom as "her" space. Now she comes to the bowls when I call her with the other cats! She still does not liked to be petted, but she no longer runs and hides when she sees people. Progress!
That's great, Rebecka!
I haven't posted any pics since we got Copper, and now Copper is 11 months old. We think he's part Sheltie or Border Collie, as he's much bigger than a normal Papillon. Here's Copper with Bandit.
Wow, Rich, he is bigger than the average Papillon! It's funny, though - he doesn't look like a mix, just like a really big Papillon. They are both beautiful.
Just got back from our cruise and am sooooo excited to hear the news that Leilah is going to be a mommie!! Congratulations!!!!!!!!
Leila is getting bigger! Here she is enjoying treats this afternoon from the Canine Cafe. This is her elegant face.
Based on her expanding flanks, I think we are expecting more than just 2 puppies.
Rich, great pics of your Papillons. They are soooo cute.
Rebecka, happy to hear your German Shepherd, Leila, is expecting. She's a beautiful dog and I hope all goes well.
Love all these pics! Babyblues - or he could be a bat-eared fox. He's definitely got some ears going there!
Tanner is gorgeous. Is he a type of Setter?
Haha! The look on Daisy's face says it all, Calico. "Get this damn thing OFF of me!!"
Lucky looks like the maze tuckered her out!
LOL Rebecaka, exactly. Interestingly, a lady I work with made that for her out of Shop Rite bags, file folders and green masking tape!
These seasonal pet photo threads are by far my favorite! I love seeing everyone's babies!
Twizz enjoying the last of the fall weather (I can't believe most of the leaves are gone already!). Soon it will be time to dust off his winter coat and snow boots and have to deal with the pathetic sad face every time I make him go outside in the cold.
As always, thanks for sharing your pet pictures...one of the few threads where civility prevails all the time, LOL. Earnhardt, your pup is getting big and very handsome! Daisy, I can't believe they dressed you like that..twizz, always nice to see you, and Lucky, well you know how I feel about Lucky :) Nosila, I tried to make your picture of the babies in the wagon my profile picture on FB and couldn't do it, not sure why. Rich, I say your babies sitting in the window the other day, and as I was passing by, I realized "Hey, I know those dogs". They make an adorable window decoration. Honestly..this is my favorite thread.
LaDeeVee - Barny my big orange Tabby sends a shout out to Killian. Is that an Irish name, btw? Never heard it but love it.
Looks like that Shepherd pup is trying to hide... "ain't nobody here but us pumpkins...", LOL
Well, Tigger, that certainly is a unique cat expression. Remember what your mother told you, though -- it could freeze like that.
my spare - who is now permanent - Amazing Grace because she survived an awful injury caused by an unknown source - aka Gracie Mae ---on prozac because she can be rather hard to manage - or put more accurately she can be extremely aggressive - but her sweet side does come out with help from chemistry -
Roflmbo Ian! What exactly is kitty expecting for Christmas?
We had a cat on Prozac too, 5cat mom. Just for 6 months. It helped him adjust to a new male we took in (a stray). Sounds like Gracie was lucky to find you. :-)
Oh, I am so happy this evening. Our foster cat... okay, she's probably going to end up staying here... Wren, who was not socialized and scared of everything when we took her in... as I type, she and Nora are running around the livingroom playing together! Bouncing off the furniture and running behind the TV. I couldn't be happier! She is coming out of her shell and being a cat.
Yes, Rebecka, it sounds like Wren will have to stay or at least go to a home with another cat, but it sounds like she's fitting in great with your family. No reason to break up a good thing! Don't want her to have to go on Prozac.
This is the best thread on HL! Love all the furkids.
Nosila, love the wagon photo, they posed themselves nicely, nice composition there. :)
It's amazing how that happens, Rebecka. Feels so good to see them change and become social. One of mine took several years - but now he sleeps on top of my legs and loves to be petted. RE Gracie - she is lucky. She lived one day with a friend who gave her back - and lived 2 1/2 months with a friend of mine who tearfully gave her back because she was biting and drawing blood. Fortunately I seem to read her body language well - and know when to back off. Aren't they all great...............
Rebecka-
How is Leila feeling? She looks like she has gotten quite a bit thicker! I can't wait for puppy cam 2013:).
Fall is for watching football and the best way to watch football is wrapped up in a blanket.
"What exactly is kitty expecting for Christmas?"
I don't think you exactly understand Rebecka. It's not a matter of expectation but the reality of what orders have already been placed because you can bet the cat has got the credit card number memorized. Not that I know anything about this at all as I see $5 from my wallet being handed to the UPS guy that Tigger knows by first name saying "thanks for the door to door" while he looks up at me sternly and says "this doesn't concern you".
GC....please keep Tigger away from my kitties....it's hard enough to pay their expenses now...I don't need them to learn how to do their own ordering
Iggy - enormous to you is a grain of sand and a snow flake. My little sister is twice your size. But I will admit you do have a purple fashion sweater and one glitter collar up on her. ;-)
Hey Killian - they just don't understand about the sun thing do they? You look like you were interrupted from a good warmth induced coma. Hate that. Rock the snooze dude. Screw them and leave you the *!&@^ alone.
Halfway there - Send tuna. Seriously. I have it on good authority the world's supply is getting low so buy now while prices are still reasonable. Send to:
Emperor Tigger
Ruler of the Known Universe
101 Palace Road
HackCatsTown NJ 07840
"the cat has got the credit card number memorized" ROFL, GC!
HH - that is one happy pup you've got there. What a warm, lovely picture.
Leila is feeling good, I think... although she is markedly less agile and nimble. I suppose she doesn't look enormous, unless you are used to looking at a really thin, lithe girl.
Iggy says he thinks Tigger needs Prozac.
5catmom - I promise to do my best but you have to understand he has this friend Bubba D. Truk. The two of them conspire to visit certain special houses in the area while I'm away at work. Bubba's mileage mysteriously increases and Tigger comes home smelling of Fancy Feast and some rose perfume called "Joy". What's up with that? My advice is change the credit card password regularly and pay off the UPS guy more than he does. Cats run the world, we just have to try to keep up.
"Iggy says he thinks Tigger needs Prozac."
Hey Lovey, do you hear that? Some dog actually said a smart thing!!!
Tigger is getting to be like most males...."kiss and tell"...but, I still love seeing Bubba D's headlights shining into my human's driveway....He is my Hero!! XXXXXOOOOO.... Miss Kitty. P.S.: I don't care for Tuna myself but will see what I can do to steal some for Tigger's next visit...
Believe me Tracy - I researched this until my fingers couldn't type any more. :-) Yes, if it's late in the pregnancy and the pups are developed. No, if it's early on. And we're going to a vet who is a fertility specialist (Dr. Mary in Washington). She wouldn't do anything that was unsafe.
Rebecka, the x-ray image is so interesting. Thanks for the tag lines. They made it so much easier for me to understand what I was looking at.
Rebecka, of course I assumed you wouldn't have had anything done that wasn't safe. I was just surprised to learn that it was. Can't wait to see those babies!
INDY, I love you! Not only are you a beautiful puppy, but you know what I want to do today.
JeffersonRepub, thanks for sharing.
Wendy
Indy is my kinda dog!
Here is Leila... and Iggy... in Leila's whelping box. Leila is much calmer and happier when she has her little poodle bestie with her, so I think he's going to be around when the puppies come.
She is showing all signs of getting ready to deliver. I think it's going to be a long night. We are live with the puppy cam on our blog www.ThePuppyRoom.com but I'll probably take her upstairs in our bedroom for a couple hours to see if we can both get some shut-eye before the fun begins.
OMG he's being really cute right now with his chin resting on the side of the box. He knows you are watching him, because he's putting on a show of being a well-behaved little dog. It's an act, trust me.
I don't have FB to be able to comment on Iggy being a nurse. All I know is his pink nail polish and purple turtle neck are very fitting for the job.
[dog]
jiro - the first picture should be in a calendar. The second made me laugh out loud. What kind of dog? The ears are priceless. He/she looks like a real character.
Tigger - Iggy says to be careful he's got a syringe full of Prozac just waitin' for you.
We had puppies once, when my band were all living in the same house (we were young)- and the 2 band dogs had puppies. What a chaotic mess that was! One of the dog's owner's bedroom became the birthing room...
jiro03, your pup looks like a real character!
Rebecka - Sssshhhh, don't tell nobody, I use Ninja mode. I help Nurse Twiggy hold Tigger down. Oh, brother, special delivery just for you. ;-)
Lol Sugar.
The spotlights are there just to light things up during delivery, bbu. After that, they will go.
I want to steal Iggy. I think after the puppies are born, you should maintain an "Iggy Cam" for the rest of us. I'd watch him all day long.
OMG so funny. Iggy needs his own fan club! Not much going on right now. I am heading upstairs to lay Leila down to put the uterine monitor on her. I have to stay with her for the whole hour because the vet who was reading the data said she was moving around way too much! So I basically just have to lie next to her and keep her calm. I'll probably fall asleep...
I watched last night for awhile as well. As soon as I returned home today I tuned right in!! Rebecka thanks so much for sharing this exciting time with everyone.
I would suggest getting Iggy an agent. Clearly he will soon be in great demand for film work! LOL.
No broadcasting tonight -- just got off the phone with the vet specialist who is monitoring her progress via phone (we send data over the phone to him from her uterine monitoring equipment). She is definitely not in labor yet - only a few contractions per hour. So no puppies for another 24 hours probably. :-( She had us all fooled!
But seriously, the puppy cam will start to get really fun in about 3 weeks!!
Leila is making us wait. And wait. And wait. I want the puppies NOW but apparently the muffins are not yet ready to come out of the oven.
Looks like she is in early labor based on uterine contractions this morning. Vet specialists says best estimate for pup delivery is now 8-12 hours, making that this evening.
Ok Chicken Little....er...uh....I mean Rebecka. ;-)
We will be anxiously awaiting.
I'm just jumping for joy! I'm running all around in the absolute excitement!!
Either that or I'm just snoozing away as usual. Call me when something real happens. Like Nurse Iggy pees himself. He wants to give me prozac, and yet his mommy calls him clinically certifiable?? Yep, snoozing away. ;-)
I think Iggy as a nurse probably looks like this:
http://cdn.mrcostumes.com/images/pz/22210/6022-precious-poodle-costume.jpg
Rofl Tigger!! We said Iggy is clinically insane but in a GOOD way!
Yes I do feel like chicken little, Calico! Leila fooled us on Monday. Now she is days overdue, though. If she doesn't have them soon - c-section.
Rebecka - Not fabulous, Fabulous Poodles are this:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sgNDEjFQ7w8
That picture is "just wrong". ;-)
Looks like Leila might be headed for a c-section. She gets started with contractions but then stops. Going to vet.
I had a feeling when we didn't hear anything you might be headed in that direction. Sending good wishes and a safe delivery.
Leila- Best wishes to you and your fur babies.....we will all be thinking of you today. Tell your Mom to keep us posted.
Nov '13
Congrats to Leila and so so happy all went well. I'm so relieved even though I don't even know you. I've been following the whole journey from 3 days ago. Give Momma a big hug from me.
Puppy cam is on and I turned on the volume so you can hear the puppies squeaking.
www.ThePuppyRoom.com
Rebecka, the puppy cam is terrific! One puppy just crawled out and over its bed...must be hungry. They are so darling. Hope Leila recovers well.
Puppies are smart, they want to sleep. Camera hog poodles not so much. ;-)
My brother is right, Iggy needs a HUGE ribbon on him. To go with his pearl necklace.
Catz rulez.
Ooh, I tried again, I can see now! Nurse Iggy was just checking on everyone. Poor groggy Leila, her ears even seem groggy.
I rather play "tail the donkey with a pin".... ;-)
Uh oh, here comes daddy and he doesn't look happy. Run! Run! Sugar did it, White Shoes said it! What ever it is, wasn't me.
I shall be the official judge of this brand new carpet. Allow me to sharpen my claws and get a hair ball brewing and I will give my final approval.
Sincerely,
Cypress
Congrats on your 2 sweet little bundles. Speedy recovery wishes to Leila. Iggy is going to have a blast when those two get a little older!!
I tried to watch the stream, but all I get is black. I'm on a mac, tried both Safari and Firefox, no dice.
UPDATE:
for anyone having trouble viewing the cam...
...I went back a little while later, and it seemed to work fine. Weird. So give it a couple of tries if you're having issues.
I had the same issue, not on a mac. I think once you go in, you have to go back in again and then you can see it. It worked for me on the second try as well, but not the first.
DH just had to hit the refresh button on his browser and then it worked. Not sure why you have to do that. :-(
You have to either play one of their ads or it ends up dark. I think the first time around it takes so long to get the video player on the screen it thinks you never played the ad.
Ugh, that is annoying, especially because I paid for a premium membership for which there are supposed to be NO ads preceding the broadcast!
Anyway, Leila is nursing the pups right now if anyone wants to view.
+Nosila I also have had no problems and also no ads. Keep up the good work Rebecka it is such a joy to watch them.
I haven't had any problems or ads either. I'm using Chrome with an ad blocker though.
Leila is such a beautiful pet and a even more beautiful Mom to her adorable pups...So happy for your family, Rebecka...
awesome! Leila looks so much more comfortable now =o) they all look so cozy together.
Nov '13
Hi, Rebecka.
I have never seen puppies so young, so am wondering - when they are snoozing, why do they wiggle & make their cute little sound? Sometimes they look like they are running, are they dreaming??
I know their eyes are not open, can they "smell" mom & their sibling?
I have the site up & the sound up - love their little sound and I crack up when someone else barks.
Thanks for sharing and for the answers.
Wendy
Wendy - yes, the pups have little puppy dreams! That's why they are making sounds and moving when they sleep. The movement actually helps to get their muscles toned for when they start walking.
Their eyes and even their ears are not open and working yet. They rely solely on their sense of smell and touch to find Leila and nurse. Their sense of smell is already so acute that some puppies have a favorite teat and refuse to nurse on any other!
Rebecka - I just viewed Leila and her pups on the puppy cam and I'm overwhelmed with amazement. Thank you for sharing this beautiful miracle with us. She looks great and so do the pups !
Someone met her future daddy today, and someone met his future girl. A few more weeks with mom first...
Great looking puppys, there is nothing cuter then a Shepard pup. Best of luck with them.
Rebecka, thanks for the info - I did not know that they needed to squiggle to grow strong or that their hearing was not working 100% yet.
How long b/4 their eyes and ears are open and hearing?
How long will they stay with mom b/4 they are off their forever loving family?
Thanks again for sharing.
Wendy
@Mindy's Mom - LOL!
@Wendy - I think eyes and ears open around 10 days, if memory serves. Puppies should stay with their mom for at least 8 weeks for the best socialization. They need to learn from their littermates and mom what is acceptable behavior, i.e. if they nip at a littermate, he will squeal loudly letting the pup know that this is not allowed; it hurts. Some breeders unfortunately let their puppies go at 6 weeks. This is too early. We will keep our pups for at least 8 weeks, maybe 10 depending on the new owners' feelings.
I always wondered what the mommy dog thinks after her pups have gone to their new homes. Do you think Leila will adjust ok? Too bad you can't keep one of the pups.
Nov '13
Poppy Girl, I wonder the same thing.....Not only about cats & dogs, but what about other animals.....
I know that elephants morn the loss of a loved one, but how about tigers? and do deer know that their "family" just got shot?
I have to stop, having a bit of a weepy day today & this is not helping.
Thanks for asking the question.
Wendy
Many times a mom is totally ready to see the pups leave! Sort of like some human moms, I would imagine.
Anyway, Athena is actually not leaving the property. She will be going to her forever home right next door to us, so all of us including Leila will be seeing her every day.
Wendy- There are too many species to list and they vary considerably when it comes to long term/forever maternal attachment.
I know that dogs, cats, raccoons, bears, etc. instinctively detach themselves from their young by a certain age. However lions form a pride and usually stay together, Tigers are very independent creatures basically loners. Whales (especially the Killer Whale) form a pod and are very attached to their offspring and stick together for life.
I can go on forever....I just wanted to give you an idea about the variations with different species. :)
Elephants are probably some of the most attached animals to their offspring, at least from what I've seen. But the saddest sight I witnessed in Africa was a hyena mourning her dead pup, killed by a leopard. No one can tell me hyenae don't have feelings.
Re: dogs - if you've ever seen 8-week-old puppies around their mom (jumping, play-attacking, running circles around her, still trying to nurse, and basically driving her nuts) - you can understand why she's not that unhappy to see them go!
Positive & Rebecka
Thanks for the answers - It is a big old animal world out there and as you both stated they are all different.
Rebecka, I can't wait to see your puppies at 8 weeks & you are probably right Leila will be "happy" to have them leave & then visit Athena from time to time.
Thanks again for the answers -
Wendy
Suzique, if you really want those I could def make them, lol! Love the expression on the faces of the dogs in the pic!
Rebecka, that is wonderful - how sweet.
I see the comments on the puppy cam site & here that she does not leave those babies for a long period of time - and something was mentioned about Leila not eating and not letting anyone (or other animal) into the room - Is this all normal for a new puppy mom?
I missed Iggy sneaking in and out yesterday.....But I did hear some barking from Leila & another dog yesterday afternoon.....
This site has been come a bit addicting, I love seen those puppies schooch around.
Rebecka, I also LOVE the bedding you have down now.....
@Wendy - more than just normal behavior. It's typical behavior. Nothing at all we are worrying about.
We are just being careful not to let any animals in the whelping room. She might make an exception to her no food except steak policy and eat a cat. :P
Happy Birthday Leila - Glad you got a steak for your birthday dinner.
Oh no, Leila would not eat Barney or another kitty.....But let's not chance it.
I'm glad to read that her behavior is typical. I am learning so much on these sites.
Besides those puppies are so very cute, can't wait to see what next week brings.
Wendy
If anyone wants some cuteness, the puppies are nursing and making cute squeaks on the puppy cam right now. www.ThePuppyRoom.com
if you love dogs and puppies, you may like watching http://explore.org/#!/live-cams/player/great-dane-service-puppies-indoor-puppy-room
Livecams follow great danes from birth (one is having pups right now on cam) through their training to be service dogs - Great danes are often used as mobility aides because they are so tall --have a look
Oh lovely, now I've got someone else's puppy cam to watch in addition to my own! The Dane pups are so adorable. Watching it made wonder if I should change the angle of my cam. Theirs is quite a bit more above the whelping box looking down.
I peeked into the Dane's puppy cam - they are very colorful puppies, what a variety.
I believe they lost a puppy - someone was working on it for the 5 mins I was watching and then they took it away....so sad.
but then I just focused on the wiggly puppies.
Wendy
Service Dog Project, Inc. is a 501 c3 non-profit charity. Our mission is to increase the number of service dogs available to people who are mobility- impaired.
Our main focus is training Great Danes and other large breed dogs to assist balance-impaired people. This would include, but not be restricted to, Parkinson’s and MS patients. Preference is given to Veterans and their families.
Wonderful group ----
pup was just lost a little while ago - they just held up a sign with the pups listed in chronological order - number 9 was just born -- more to come
Rebecca I started watching the great dane last night. She had her first at around 11:30pm on a couch no less. Then when I got up this morning she had 6 overnight . I then went out for errands. She was about to birth another as I left. I just got home and was about to go look. I'm so saddened to hear they lost one. I don't know enough to wonder if that's common with so many and such a long birthing period. Anyway they are cuties for sure.
It seems that when they have so many one or two often don't make it ---they sure work on them a long time though before they give up
from one of my eaglecam friends: Since I started watching (about the same time the cam at SDP started up) in October of 2012 there have been 8 litters from 7 bitches with 4 different sires with a total of 65 pups!
It is unfortunately common to lose puppies with big litters, and even sometimes with small ones. If we hadn't been monitoring Leila's contraction patterns and her puppies' heartrates, we would never have known that she needed a c-section, and we could have lost both pups.
I worked on a puppy, the last to be delivered from our 2010 breeding, for 20 minutes before she took her first breath. She was fine! Rule of thumb is to work on them for half an hour, can you believe it? They sometimes just need time, but it's amazing that they can be without oxygen for that long and suffer no damage.
Well as of right now she has birthed 11 total and it looks like they expect another. Two haven't made it. I actually get nervous watching them. Such a huge dog and so many pups. I just hope the people assisting know what they are doing. She must be exhausted and I don't know enough to figure out if this birth is normal. . I didn't witness the ones that passed.
Kit Kat they know what they are doing - have done this many times - they are wonderful, committed volunteers - it's very interesting to follow the camera as they sometimes show older pups either being trained or playing in the puppy yards -
Okay it has been a busy weekend and I have not had time to check in on the puppies.
OMGosh, they have grown!!!
I'm back at work, so will be tuned in all day - can't wait to see them move around and maybe hear them howl.
Thanks again for sharing.
Wendy
I saw a kitty check out the pups yesterday - just doing a sniff around & out it ran.
I believe it was Fuzzy, but not sure.
Wendy

Bumping this up
I need my fix of Leila & her pups
And I need this thread to find the website to peek in.
Wendy
Too cute for words. I've been following them on the puppy cam and it's amazing how they are growing and changing every day.
I nominate Leila for the Dog - "Mommy of the Year Award for 2013".
She seems so patient and protective...a real doggie role model!
Buster is decked for the holidays - and he wishes you health and happiness - but he also feels cats are currently being underrepresented - and as a senior he is somewhat offended
I can't believe Buster went with the getting decked up for the holidays.. I couldn't get a collar on my cats never mind a Santa Hat and get them to hold an ornament. I love Buster.
@Nosila..I love those pups..you're right though, Salem looks thrilled in the first picture. They're so photogenic.
Oh, Salem and Maddie you are both as pretty as ever. Mom needs to post pics of you more often. And not just when you're all dressed up. ;-)
Check out where Roman is sleeping right now! http://www.ustream.tv/channel/thepuppyroom
Aw, he moved, nevermind. He was sleeping on the guardrail. Also known as a "pig rail." Rather appropriate.
I can getz me a Christmas Tree. So the orange branchz comez first, den the pink ones. I'm helpin'. Really I am....
Ms. Salem pouts during the winter since she can't go swimming....so she just sleeps away her days waiting for spring
Does Salem drool like the devil? Now that would be cool. Nothing like a long winters nap where you just totally let loose.....
Nosila - Holy crap! Salem is Tigger in dog form. He is also known as "Wheezer" and was once mistaken for an Air Raid Siren by his Grandma Tuna when she had just met him. If she taps you on the shoulder at 2AM and says "we need to talk", I'm gonna be scared. ;-)

One of Monsters friends came to visit today and have some lunch with her today
Dec '13
Seemed like a good place to put this. I just shared it with my 14 year old grand daughter who is donating her babysitting money this Christmas to an animal cause. Maybe this will inspire someone else to help also. What an adorable pup!
Fallon is a 14 week old puppy that was surrendered to CSA this morning after being rescued from another home. She has a disability that she was born with and needs to have her right front leg amputated. We are trying to raise to raise funds for her surgery as soon as possible. We need $500 for her surgery and donations can be made to our PayPal account or mailed to the shelter, or called in with a credit card. Po box 589 Broadway NJ 08808. Or www.commonsenseforanimals.org please mark all donations "Fallon's amputation". She is a happy little pup and will be up for adoption after her surgery!
OK, westvillage. I've seen that tree in every home I've been in in the past 2 weeks. Explanation, please! Where does it come from? Why is that tree so popular this year?? It's the tree that went viral!
It's the Charlie Brown Tree! It's been famous for so many years!
http://www.amazon.com/Charlie-Brown-Christmas-Blanket-Non-Musical/dp/B001MMSWGO
5catmom- your cats make me want to curl up next to them and take a nap. They look so cuddly.
Cuddly but appears one of them looks like they are an aggressive user of lipstick. What's up with that. ;-)
lipstick??? uh where? it looks even more cuddly when all 5 are on the bed - but they don't all stay when I lay down - it's really amazing considering how rough things were when Gracie joined us (permanently ) - even with her on Prozac--- but all is quite well now
5catmom - The one in the back. Lipstick? Mustache? Weird birth mark? Movember? Who knows. All I know is it mimics lip hair.
One of my three needs Prozac, but just hear the protests when I say so. If anything they'd feed me drugs in my sleep. ;-)
Kit Kat, they actually do. One of my cats had go on it for a little while when we moved. I believe it's just a low dose of human prozac.
ok - Peanut has a normal and beautiful face- maybe her mouth was a little dirty - will post another of her - re prozac - Gracie had an unknown past untill someone called animal control in Garfield - about an injured cat in the backyard - Gracie had a 5 inch gash in her chest - I will spare you the details - cause unknown - and there's more to the story -but I'll save it --suffice it to say she is quite defensive - and initally she was very aggressive with my others............she has a lot of unknown baggage - but she is really mellowing........will post her too
any dog owners use boots? The little one doesn't like the cold. She starts to lift her feet.
I tried to get her some but they never did stay on too!
recommendations?
There are stretchy rubber ones that stay on, but they are a pain in the derriere to GET on.
Roxie is a good looking boxer, Greg. Looks like she is very active and loads of fun, too.
Thanks, Chickadee. She is a ton of fun. At just nine months now, she has boundless energy. We play outside all the time. She even helped with the leaves! LOL.
@westvillage - no, the rubber booties just protect against the salt. I've not found boots that keep my little poodle's feet warm and stay on. :-( If anyone knows of any, please post. Iggy thanks you in advance.
Roxie is just lovely. You must have your hands full with a young boxer, Greg!
tell Iggy to look at Petsmart and Rei websites though he had best empty his piggy bank to pay for them
It was beautiful out today (well, as beautiful as it can be in Mid-December) and I was lucky enough to have a half day at work so Twizz and I got out for a nice long walk! He didn't even need a jacket and we got to meet some nice hunters getting ready to go out. The ice was a little hard on his paws but he was so happy to get out that he didn't care too much.
Roxie is too cute! Boxer puppies are so much fun:)
Looks like Twizz had fun in the snow!
It didn't take Athena long to discover the comforts of a dog bed. She climbed right in Iggy's bed, leaving the poodle confused and dismayed.
Lol! Kitkat - it's pretty difficult to take a pic around here *without* a cat in the background! (7 of them running around)
Here is Athena again. She finished her homecooked turkey meal, and decided to see what was left in one of the big dog bowls. She managed to get a few more turkey tidbits!
Then when Petra gives birth! LOL You will be outnumbered! Athena is such a big girl now. Eating in a bowl and stuff!
Moomoo the cat, 1 year old. I broke my longstanding no-pet rule for this black and white cupcake. My wife and daughter found her by the road and she was on her last legs, the vet said that she might not have made it without treatment.
Sometimes pets find you. Sunshine the hamster was thrown in a dumpster. Now he lives like a king!
nice Reggie - and lucky Moomoo ---and - oh yeah - they do find you - I have 3 that can vouch for that ---the other two I chose
oh geeze- was looking for another picture of Peanut to prove she doesn't wear lipstick - and look what I found from several years ago:
5 cats LOL The cat's outta the bag now :) GC ha ha you are so right! Earnhardt your GSH is gorgeous.
Oh, and our friends who are Athena's future parents are also taking Fuzzy. How perfect, right?
Rebecca that photo looks like a Christmas card :) So happy Athena gets to go to her new place with a buddy!
omg Rebecka - what great news - and what an adorable pair of buddies..................
Roman is adorable - he and Athena just "melt my heart". Leila has been the most wonderful mother. Thanks so much Rebecka for sharing all their progress here as well as the Puppy Cam. I follow it daily.
Here's a pic from last year. Alex went out for a jaunt around dusk on June 2, 2013 and never returned.
He was a great cat...and my pal..., though he had an unfortunate penchant for sitting on top of vehicles for a better view of things. This does not fly well here in Pennsyltucky, where some people value the paint jobs on their monsta' trucks.
Can't say I wasn't informed of this, though...
Jj, so sad about Alex. :-(. Hopefully he wandered into the lives of another family who is loving him, at least.

Here is a Pinterest image I thought was worth sharing...
Just wanted you to see that Peanut doesn't always wear lipstick - though she does always have a dirty nose
this will warm your cockles

LOTS of activity in the http://www.thepuppyroom.com/.....
Puppies running after each other -
2 BIG shepards barking and running thru.
An adult, with a shoprite bag wonders in and the puppies follow, but the blanket grabs their attention and they jump around on it, as the kitties look on, as they make themselves at home.
I'd like to be there, looks like FUN.
Thanks again for sharing.
Wendy
LOL Last night I looked in after I got home from work. It was really late and Momma Leila was in the crate with pups. A cat wandered it rubbed against the door of the crate and almost closed it! There was another Shepherd in a bed watching with one eye open. So funny like an animal reality show.
Marcus turned 10 a few days ago - still chases the frisbee like a 4-year-old, too! The only German Shepherd I know who has no hip problems at 10... which is why he was bred! To pass on his healthy traits.
Christmas morning with the boys, Romeo & Socks. Romeo the cat is the big brother, he's 13 and Socks is the little bro, he's 9.
Roman with Dr. Cojocar this afternoon. First puppy vet visit! Both are super healthy, hearts and lungs sound great, good scissor bites, bones look great, etc. Yay!
Athena was nervous about her first time being out of the house... first ride in car... going to see the doctor....
Ok, not.
Unbelievably cute Rebecka! I love puppies too but I have my hands full with Scooby the cat dog! He actually flushed the toilet the other day! He acts so much like a dog..I bought him dog toys for Christmas and he loves them. Lol
My daughter said my cat turned on the bathroom faucet to get a drink the other day!
Omg I love this thread and all the animal pictures that make me smile! 5 cat mom - it looks like your kitties have found "their" perfect spot. They all look so happy!
I love seeing these pictures. I can't believe how big the puppies have gotten! 5 cats sprawled out can make even a large bed seem small, but it looks like they left about a square foot of room for Mom to curl up too:).
I got this look when getting ready for work this morning because Twizz was trying to guilt me in to working from home.
Happy - I recognize that look! I think Twizz is also saying - don't you dare move these blankies. I am WAY too comfortable.
He thought I was an idiot for being outside at 5AM when it was so cold and snowy out:). I felt bad because when he went out to pee this morning, he squatted and gave me quite a look of surprise when the snow hit his boy parts. Winter is not his season.
OMG the photos are too precious. Rebecka the pups have grown and they look gorgeous. So hug gable.............The 5 cats on the bed would be an instant electric blanket! LOL
you think that's naughty - here are my Buster and Peanut in their biker bar outfits - and yes ---they are
Socks decided the 3 ft snow drift at the steps was too much to deal with this morning, so just chose to pee on the patio. I have since dug out a path across the patio dug out the steps and even made a double wide run for him with the snowblower.
lol, Lynnada --all the tv news stations are looking for our snow pix - have you tried submitting??
Hmm, looks like some little furball was playing with my phone and taking selfies while I was out clearing the snow.
5catmom, no, I haven't sent the photo in. I'll check out some news stations on facebook, all the photos are on my phone and I've been having issues transferring them to my computer lately.
I don't think I'm going to allow Romeo to hang around any kitties named Peanut, they seem to have quite a reputation! lol.
Shades of ZZ Top, Sock's "Pee on the Patio"???
Knew it wouldn't be hard
to slide into the backyard
Called all my friends
and slipped past the body guard.
We turned on the Radio -
and had a Pee on the Patio.....
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=w0QB1x9QD-Q
True story - Lehigh U Stabler Arena has two areas off to the side of the main floor and the back seats, and the side area has a colloquial name of "patio seating". In 1981 ZZ Top played there when this song was a hit. As the first two chords played the people sitting there instantly recognized it and unfurled two huge banners written on university laundry sheets - "Lehigh U Loves ZZ Top" & "Have A Party On The Patio". The crowd closed up their folding seats and launched into an arm flailing knock down drag out Texas free for all that the band kept pointing to. During the bridge Dusty Hill who sings that song went so far as to click his heals mid air. They found some kind of overdrive beyond fifth gear when they only officially had four gears. They played a weeks worth down in Philadelphia after that and during an interview at a Philly station they credited their good performance to a crowd in Bethlehem like they hadn't seen in 10 years making them feel 20 years younger. They played their hearts out, they changed the song list to include every hit they ever had, they played 20 songs instead of 15, they played until near midnight instead of 10:30, a full 4 encores instead of the usual one maybe two. ZZ Top went as nuts for the crowd as the crowd went for them and "Party on the Patio" kicked off the mayhem. It was part of the El Loco Jumpsuit tour that MTV then gave them their career's second wind.
Lynnada--I was sort of kidding - not sure they will show a pix of a dog peeing - even if it is seasonal....................
Hahaha, he did wait to poop until I dug out for him.
I submitted the photo to News12 New Jersey.
5catmom - Buster looks like he might go either way in the leather, so my Tigger is off in the corner hiding. Even if true, I don't think it exactly brings him any comfort. Plus I know that 3 cats + 1 bed is a recipe for "interrupted sleep scritsching around" and not the warmth it would seem. Just don't exactly imagine what 5 gets you.
Lynnada - I know the feeling about them taking control of a phone, be careful of them paw dialing Australia at $8.00 a minute. If you're worried about your cat, my Sugar does nothing but go on and on about "that Romeo". She would curb her Ninja days to settle down with him. Seriously. ;-)
With today's union overtime rules at venues today, you can be assured nothing like that will ever happen again.
GC - Buster only has eyes for Peanut ---they have been together for many years - the others are relative newcomers --also please tell Tigger that Buster is at least 17 and frail - so he is very safe -
Lynnada - please let us know if your pix goes live....lol
5catmom - I don't care if they post it or not. If the people reviewing the photos have a laugh, my job is done. :)
Socks the extremely spoiled, just went out again and peed on the snow on the patio next to the path I shoveled for him!!! Grrrr! I'm taking into consideration that he has arthritis and that is why he didn't go down the stairs to the lawn, if not for that, I'd come close to killing him. I know, he's the monster I created.
GC - Sure Sugar thinks that now, she doesn't have to live with him! Even Nadine, who adored him, thought the sun rose and set on him, after a few years realized he wasn't all that. Now that he is on an inhaler for his asthma, he's getting back to being a complete jerk again.
I think Socks just wanted to give you another photo opp.......................hoping to make it to the big networks
5catmom - Its tough to admit but Tigger now is at least 17, frail, and not so easy to convince. ;-)
Lynnada - Sugar is Ninja Cat, if he doesn't behave she'll scratch his eyes out. I wouldn't worry... Or actually maybe I would...
My dog LOVES this weather....I have to actually force her to come in for a little while or she would stay outside all day
She is not the easiest to get a picture of especially when I have to take the picture from inside because it's too cold for me
Tom Grant. We lost his twin sister Jerri to cancer a few years back and we lost Tom a few hours ago to a stroke.
So sad when you lose a pet/family member...I'm sure you gave Tom a great life with lots of love. Sorry this happened.
So sorry, John. I'm sure Tom had the best life in your home. RIP big beautiful cat.
We are sorry to hear of the loss of your cat, John....it is really hard to lose a pet but Tom is in "Kittycat Heaven" with his sister Jerri now and free of any pain...
@Lynnada..I thought they same thing, they're taking their photo job very seriously. Adorable picture.
@John C and the Mrs..I'm so sorry about the passing of your furbaby. I know your kitties are a very important part of your family. Always sad to lose a pet.
John C - Tom was a very handsome boy. I know he has crossed the Rainbow Bridge and is with my "Brodie" playing and healthy again. You gave him a lifetime of love.
Sorry for your loss John & Mrs C. Unfortunately many of us out-live our furry family members. It's sad, because they offer us unconditional love and we miss that.
I'm so sorry for your loss, John C. That's a great picture, he looked like a real sweet boy.
Last photo of Tom taken just two hours before he passed. Thank you everyone for the kind thoughts to Pam and I. It does help us feel better.
John and Pam, that photo is incredibly touching...it really got to me. I know one day I'm going to be in the same position as you with my cat and I can't even imagine it. I'm so sorry for both of you..hang in there and just remember like joyful said Tom is with his sister in heaven. He is in a good place and not suffering.
It's fun to give puppies things they don't quite know what to do with. Like greenbeans. Is it edible? Should we spit it out? Should we just chew it and then see if someone else wants it?
OMgosh pics of cats with their mouths open - so funny! You both must have caught them mid-meow.
Rebecka, I love that picture! So funny how they do that. My little guy (3 years old) still does that with food. LOL
Beautiful picture Rebecka - of course very pretty subjects.
And a kitty tail in the back.
wendy
"um, yeah- I definitely like it better in here on my bed than outside trying to finish peeing before it freezes mid-stream"
Rebecka: The 3 generation picture of your dogs is just beautiful! How fortunate that you could get a picture of all 3 together...
So sorry John C and Mrs. C - Tom was a beautiful boy. I still tear up when thinking of those furry babies that I've lost and don't want to think about the two we have now not being here. The love stays forever in your heart. Hope good memories with Tom bring you comfort.
Wow, JR, look at all your books! Don't see that in homes very often these days. Love the pic of your baby...
Thanks for all the sweet comments on the quick phone pic I snapped this morning of our 3 generations together. I really need to get out my real camera and get a proper portrait of them together. We are so blessed that Marcus is 10 and still going strong. Usually German Shepherds are limping at that age. :-( No hip problems in him, though. He's so healthy... knock on wood.
5catmom - I started watching that, and immediately thought that looks so much like where I lived as a kid, particular the house in the distance. The I looked down and it really is Fiji!! That was filmed on an island off the big one that's big enough to see in the distance from the bay where we lived. So it's not literally our house or near it, but its just so similar. No wonder I got goose bumps when that started. ;-)
Rebecka- some things need to NEVER go away, in spite of advancing technology. Bound, paper books is one of them. REAL food (no GMOs, no trans-fats, no chemicals, etc) is another. Incandescent light bulbs.
And guitar amplifiers powered with vacuum tubes is another! (that's for all the string benders out there :) )
Rebecka - I love the picture of your "three generations". I still follow Athena and Roman on the puppy cam. Seems like they were just born. Thank you for sharing your lovely photos with us.
http://m.huffpost.com/uk/entry/4573808?ncid=edlinkusaolp00000009
Enjoy this clip, so funny! Smart dog!
Depends on the dog and the size of his ears. Athena has a smaller head and lighter ears because she is a female, so hers are already just starting to get perky. Roman's not really. Their mom's, Leila's, were up at 3 months and never went down. Sometimes they're up and down until 4 months.
Here's another shot of Roman bc DH said that first pic of Roman stinks! lol really, honey, thanks!
Roman looks like a very serious minded search and rescue dog or a canine police dog.
Love the pictures and thanks for the info Rebecka. Do you keep the pups? Tell your DH that no puppy pictures stink.
4paws - sorry I didn't see your question before. Athena is going to friends who are moving in next door. Roman has gone to a fantastic family with many children and other animals.
Here is Athena today.
Nosila-maybe they're just cuddling during the storm. If you could read their minds:"I hate you, now keep me warm!"
Sadie loves it too! She's like a little snow plow. Today however it's too cold for her. Her pads were freezing up almost immediately.
Cherie, that is too funny, must be so cold on her belly but she doesn't seem to mind!
Looks like Jazz was um, cooling his jets, lol. Not sure why anyone would feel the need to cool anything today, but that's a snow-lovin' dog for ya!
Nosila - So glad to see Jesse on here! He loves his sister. Tell him not to worry, I won't tell. ;-)
Tigger----perhaps you didn't read the manual - chapter 2 - who does the bed belong to?? I suggest you refresh your memory - the purchaser of said bed - and feeder of said cats has the right, at any time - day or night - to claim said bed for self - thereafter cats may see if there is space left for them.......got it?? lol
5catmom - You're delusional. ;-) I am Lord and Emperor of the Known Universe. I rulez. I own you and your bed and all the rest. What's your point?
Oh crap, here comes the human, I'm outta here....
buster has packed his bag - he's coming to your house Tigger - he thinks you have the right idea - and I say - good riddance - that only leaves 4 to share the bed
5catmom - OMG, my cats just positively love luggage. They scratch it, they hide in it, they sniff it, they rub up against it, they bow and pray to it. Pure total unadulterated rapture. If I read that picture right and he's bringing his own laxative, then he's a scary fit for this house.
I'm afraid. Very afraid.
actually it's a friend's bag - and further - one of the cats peed partly in and partly outside it - doesn't look like a litterbox to me
"doesn't look like a litterbox to me"
What, you think we need an invitation to pee in a suite case?? Admit it, we own you, your friend, and the bag. Catz rulez. ;-)
I'm always worried that when I go somewhere, I'll open my suitcase and a cat will pop out.
Love all the pics of cats sleeping. They look so contented and relaxed.
Rebecka - 95% of all my cat pictures are snoozers. Let's face it, the other 5% are "what the ^@& is wrong with you, leave me alone, I was sleeping before you disturbed me, now go away and let me sleep you stinking rotten human before I post to the world how you're a mass murderer" pictures. What's up with that???
Or am I the only one living with the feline version of Lewis Black with a laptop??
Omg GC....so true.....especially gracie...my orange and white wack job.....I think she has ptsd...the prozac helps...sometimes....but if you pet her, she will perhaps purr just long enough for you to relax....then the fangs and talons come out
5catmom - The definition of Ninja Cat, lull them into a sense of false security. And then ATTACK!! I got that one covered.
I am thinking forward to summertime when the cats bask in the windows. My favorite picture.
Jan '14
The cartiledge (sp??) in their ears gets stronger little by little, 5cat. At first the base is up, and then the whole ear eventually. It's so much fun to have a GS puppy and watch their ears develop. It's a "thing" with GS people. :-)
Athena has just left my care for the first time! Her daddy John is taking her for her 2nd vet's appointment, and then for an outing to the pet store... and then she will probably spend the night next door, too. Oh, it's so quiet at our house right now! I miss her already. We are so bonded... if she weren't just going right next door, I seriously wouldn't let her go. She's a very special dog, no kidding.
what - no time lapse photography of the ear erection???? dang ---and I do bet you will miss that pup...
Roger that, Rebecka (your photo caption).
I never realized the ear development of the GS and so for time elapse I scrolled back over the photos from past two weeks...very interesting.
I'm in the basement in the laundry room. Iggy runs to follow me in through the cat door. The puppy *barely* squeezes in through the cat door. And I turn around and see this.
You sure captured that moment! Don't you wonder what she (Leila ?) was thinking?
Great picture!
That is seriously hilarious, Rebecka. It must be non-stop entertainment at your house with all your animals. I love watching the 2 I have...I often say it's better than TV!!
I love that her nose looks like it's a foot long in that pic! (iPhone cam distortion)
Rebecca - I am sure it is very difficult to "let go" of Athena. However, you know she is going to a great home with John and will be right next door. You have done a beautiful job with Leila and the pups and thank you again so much for sharing this lovely German Sheppard family with us on the Forum. Let us know from time to time how Athena and Roman are doing. I will miss your puppy cam.
I think that kitty is sticking his/her tongue out at you for that comment --lol
I'm in the same boat - but with my 5................
Nice furniture or nice bed quilts......why is it they have to dig them like they are going to bury a bone?
My 2 are in a stage they follow me everywhere. I guess they know I am not feeling up to par. I cannot even go to the bathroom alone. When I shower they sit outside. They are so over protective its like they know.
She's about 30 lbs now at 3 months old. And... her paws are bigger and forelegs thicker than her mother's! She's going to be a bigger girl, that's for sure. Dr. Cojagar said he wouldn't be surprised if she hits 80 lbs (Leila is 65 lbs). Athena says thank you, Lola!
I get cold on evry long walk now but then I just do hop in my pouch an its very snuggy in there it has fur on the insides so im good.
I just want to say that whenever I see a new photos of Iggy it always makes me smile. So cute! Love him.
Iggy looks like a VERY fuzzy version of me new grandson...that's how he gets around a lot!
The Poodle Association approves of snuggies with fur on the inside. But not of the shaggies. Get a haircut boy! I got my eye on you.
Iggles J Snoots.....I believe you speak for alot of us!
Just looking out my window makes my muscles hurt.
Stay warm little puppy, stay warm.
Wendy
Twizz finally went to the bathroom after holding it for about 24 hours after an unfortunate unintentional nose dive into a rather large snow drift yesterday.
You want crocus? Here you silly dog:

[snicker, snicker]
I was just cooking for our dogs - liver and rice - and had the vent going. Joe was out walking Athena, who now lives next door, and she must have gotten a whiff of the cooking from the vent blowing outside, and recognized it, and thought, "Doggy Dinner Is Being Prepared!"
All of a sudden there is pawing and clawing at the kitchen door.... puppy wanted in! Poor Joe was knocking at the front door... "where's the little rascal?"
Athena, of course, was invited to stay for dinner.
Love Salem and Maddie running in the snow too, Nosila! Dogs really know how to have fun.
This is how German Shepherds play. It always amazes people who have never had a breed like this. I bet Rotties and Pits (and probably wolves!) play like this too. But if you've only ever seen the gentler breed puppies play, it can really be shocking.
Thanks 5catmom! p.s. The "Great White" shark there is puppy Athena! She turned 3 months old this weekend... and she's huge.
Avery has such a gorgeous face. Really, really cute. Makes you just want to kiss her.
One last one from today... (Leila).
TIP for owners of both dogs and cats, who have COMCAST:
**Put on channel 443!**
When you go out, or when you just what your animals to be Zen. It's amazing. Our dogs and cats go into a trance-like state. It's a music channel called "Soundscapes." It sounds like music they play at a spa. Our whole house gets quiet when I put this on - everyone lays down with their eyes closing...
Rebecka,
That's so funny! Years ago, when Moose was just a pup, I owned a spa business & had that music playing throughout the rooms. He was my little assistant; greet clients at the door, then immediately ZONK out when everyone got settled.
You brought back yet another memory for me about my sweet little Moose. Thanks for making me smile :-)
Awww... Moose was indeed a VERY special dog, lola. Just an incredible boy. I'll never forget meeting him those few times, how he just walked calmly around off-leash, exploring and happy... and then came when called and gave kisses...
He certainly was, and had the best time when we got together......I miss his furry little face
:-(
WOOOHOOO! Mommy finally took me for a walk. I thought maybe the walks stopped forever but then mom got out my harness and I was so excited I raced around the house and threw all the pillows off the couch to show her how excited I was. There was some grass where we walked and I smelled it forever and then I peed on it and it was awesome. I was so happy I was flying right off the ground runnin' around!
- Twizz
Twizz looks so happy!!
Walking has been a difficult task these past few weeks. Sage will usually just put up with the cold/snow/ice just to get out for a bit. Samson on the other hand has a look of fear on his face when he sees me get the leash:)
I think we need a Porkchop picture soon. To keep Sage company in the JRT department. You JRT owners amaze me. I don't know how you keep up with their ENERGY!!
Mommy took me for a walk too!! I was so happy, I was smiling! Duke
And thanks, GC... I check out Moose on Rebecka's website often. I also have all those pics thanks to Rebecka.
Samson has that "you got me out of bed for this?" look going on. We really enjoyed this weater, it's just a shame it will only be for a few days:(.
Hey Mindy! Hey Henry! I got me some finger licking good Golden Skillet. Wanna come over? It'll drive that poodle crazy if he knows you came and got some but he didn't. Silly canine. ;-)
Nice face you got there, Sugar. By the way, I think your named should be changed to Dill Pickle. It's not nice ta go round deceivin people. "Sugar" my tail.
5catmom is hereby officially Poodle Association approved! We like her, smart lady. ;-)
Iggy you're just mad cause I got me all this fried chicken and all you got is day old Kibbles N Bits...
merci buckets, Sugar - Buster, Peanut, Sylvester, Pipsqueak, and Gracie are quite proud of me - since I am approved - Gracie only tried to bite me once tonight
Man, I can't WAIT for the SPRING Pet Photos thread... just because it will e SPRING, and the CABIN FEVER will be over!! Yes, dogs get it too!!
Oh dear G-d is that not the cutest little face you've ever seen?* What a wonderful choice of a breed he made, JR. Oh, I just want to squeeze him!
*No Sugar, not you. But you're adorable too, and deep down I do think Iggy loves you.
Photographer asks people from all over the USA why they adopted a rescue.

awww Athena - so cute -- here's my "spare" Gracie - off her prozac and acting pretty sweet - I tossed a cover over her and she seemed to like it --
Why was Gracie on Prozac, 5catmom? I don't remember if you already mentioned it. (We had one who needed Prozac for a short time, too, while adapting to a new addition. It worked wonders.) Love the artistic photo of her!!
Nevil is a fantastic name for a GSD, earnhardt. I really have a soft spot in my heart for them now that I own them, so I just want to grab him and give him a big hug. He sure does look like he's having fun!
Gracie was found a year ago september in a backyard - with a 5 inch gash in her chest- they could see ribs - no idea how it happened --animal control person who I know - got her -took her to the vet - long story short - she was fostered, then someone took her ----for only one night --and returned her ---then I had her and she would go from purring on my lap to attacking my cats making horrible loud sounds- she was also overgrooming - lots of stress behaviors - understandably - long story short - talked to the vet - put her on prozac ---friend took her with the option to return ---2 1/2 months later she returned her - having been bitten - out of nowhere - a few too many times - so I took her back last May --and she had been sort of ok - but could suddenly bite and dig her nails in after being sweet ----well I recently took her to Dr. Hewitt who said her dose was too high for an animal her size - so I cut it down - she was bahaving - so I cut it down some more - she has now been off it about a week and her behavior is quite good- still slightly unpredictable but not attacking anything or anyone ---needless to say she isn't called my "spare" anymore - there are still occasions when she makes really loud scary noises - usually when one of my others has tormented her - sorry didn't mean to go on so long
Aw, what a story. So nice you have the heart and patience to get her treatment and keep her... she's lucky she "found" you. She may not have fared so well had she not.
Gracie is apparently under the impression (are all cats?) that water out of a human's glass tastes MUCH better than water out of a cat bowl. Nothin' like it, apparently. Even if they have to stick their heads all the way down to the bottom of a tall glass to get it, that's fine, it's worth it... because it's *human* water, of course. It makes all the difference in taste.
Rebecka - last night she lay on my lap and exfoliated my face till I couldn't stand it anymore - she is a piece of work - and I do love her
This is my Before picture. Mommy bought some clippers today to try to do it herself again! Am I in trouble? I will post my After picture tomorrow when I am done gettin groomed (because I can see out but nobody can see my eyes I have so much snoot fur!).
Love,
Iggywigs
Not to worry Snootsmaster Iggyhair, I'll be using those clippers on you the minute I come over. You have no clue just how much trouble you're in. Can you say bald???
Bonsai!!! Bonsai!!! Bonsai!!!
Sugar was lookin pretty good dere i hafta admit.
Here i yam after my bath and trimmin. Mommy said its not perfict an one ear is bigger than the other but its whats on de inside that counts right?
Love,
Iggywigs
Also I was good in the bath relitively like if you put a wild rackoon in your kitchen sink and you gave him a bath i was a little better behaved than that rackoon.
well Iggles - I've seen your picture and I believe your mom is correct- you are ever so slightly asymmetrical - or rather your coif is --- so I'm glad you are such a good sport - would love to see your screen debut in "Iggles gets a bath"
I believe Iggy is quite off balance, but that's another story. Any reason your mommy hasn't changed your name to "Fluffy"??
Now if I could only find where Sugar went....
Whiteshoes - she went through somethin called a Wormhole. She can only come back if a can of tunyfish is opend its the only way out.
"a can of tunyfish"
Sugar - "I can live with that."
White Shoes - "Lamb stew, too. We got a can of that."
Kitteys that get fried chicken and lam stew and run the Poodle Association.... the world is upsighdown. Did someone say they were handin out Prozac for animals?
Iggles: Mommy did a good job...you look great...now if Sugar and White Shoes will just try to be a little nicer...you guys might wind up best friends...Not!!!!!
Iggy Boots - That's not magic, that's just Australia. Book a flight to Sydney on mommy's credit card. She can thank me later. I'd go with you but I'm too busy with my lamb stew. ;-)
I read about Australia and dey have crocodials! I am not goin. Just let me barrow your shoes!
The cats have Snootleboy surrounded and the big dogs cowering the corner. Why am I not surprised. ;-)
that floor looks pretty darn clean, Rebecka - especially under those circumstances --
great scene
Lol GC!
5 cat mom - it's the magic of the iPad camera. If you saw the floor in person, you'd be horrified. The mud!
lol - gracie thought she should go out on my deck while I was removing more ice and mess- and of course there are lots of cat footprints all over now - had to grab her when she got on the railing and had thoughts of getting to the neighbors deck -- bigger issue here - furbunnies
The five cats look like a basketball team on offense, with the center setting a screen at the top of the key.
The dogs look like they are playing a very passive packed in zone defense.
well Rebecka - I have more fur than dust - so...................use your imagination - lol perhaps I'll take pix later - not going anywhere in this wind today - could use a "project"
I knew someone once with 5 Samoyeds, and people used to *pay* for the furbunnies. The lady said its used to weave things like sweaters. Not for me, thanks.
I love the way Iggy is sitting there making out like he is not related to any other animal in the room. He's like " I don't know these crazy furballs" LOL
Had to share this story with all pet lovers, it truly touched my heart . . . . nice to know there is such a wonderful organization such as "Leave No Paws Behind".

Augie is our new little puppy that we just adopted from Miracles with Paws. He is such a welcome addition to our family!!!!
Sorry....Rikki, our Shih Tzu is sharing his bed with his new little brother, Augie!!
Welcome to Augie into your family, Isricc....He is beautiful...I have a feeling he is soon going to be your Shih Tzu's "big" brother...
Thanks for the kind words. Augie is actually a sheltie mix and our vet tells us he should grow to about 20 pounds. He is almost 4 months old and weighs 10 pounds. BTW here's a pic from the first day we got him.
Rikki is so lucky to have a new big brother. So, your vet told you Augie should grow to be around 20lbs....sounds familiar....my vet told me Duke should be around 40lbs. Long story short, he is a little over a year and currently weighs in at 68lbs.
Duke says congrats to you all!
LOL Agust, I agree! I didn't name him after you BUT if you'd like to take credit it's fine with me!!
Lola...I REALLY hope our vet is a lot closer in his estimation than yours was!!!!!!!
Thank you for your well wishes. We love them both and really like to rescue our dogs even though in many ways they rescue us!!!!!!
Lola....Duke is sooooo cute but doesn't look anything close to 40 pounds!!!! He's just more for you to love!!!!!!
Earnhardt: Missed the parade today in Morristown. Will the seeing eye dogs be in the Hackettstown parade tomorrow? Your puppy is so beautiful and looks so proud!
We will be in he crowd watching as a group. We thought it would be good for the dogs to experience the sites and sounds as the parade goes by.
Old dogs have so much soul, don't they, Christine? Please give your girl a big kiss from me. Rocko... he looks like he just stepped out of the grooming parlor... bet he's really soft to pet.
Yes they both got groomed today Rebecka. My Jazzy is my dog. She follows me everywhere. When she comes up to my face and stares I know she is not ready to go. She will tell me when she is ready. Her soul is a good one for sure.
Jim Harbaugh doing pushups with a walrus.
Leave it to me to get a walrus onto this thread. LOL

Athena today. Now 4 months old, about 43 lbs. Her nose is growing long lol. Less of a tiny puppy snoot and starting to look more like a GS.
Now I have to go check out the walrus vid...
@JRT they're kinda high energy, but extremely smart and easy to train. Pryor, my dog just really likes to play. Not a good breed for anyone that doesn't want to take long walks or a fenced in yard. You just need to keep them occupied, but they're the best!
Sounds like mine (Jack Russell & Jack /Rat terrier mix) Lots of walking and they are up for a game of chase anytime!!!
another of Crazy Gracie aka Amazing Grace aka Gracie Mae - off her prozac and now a pain in the patut ---big time lap cat who wants to lick and lick - have to move her along after a while - amazing transformation - I have scars from her
Thanks Nosila, That is Sage. She LOVES people and is very intense!!! She is also very smart ~ almost too smart sometimes.... Actually a JRT would be a great match for you since you like to do a lot of hiking. Anytime you want to try one out give me a shout lol!! They could go all day long.
Here's my new furbaby, Lucy! She's half French Bulldog and half Boston Terrier. She's actually a rescue. She was sick with very bad kennel cough and abandoned at a vet's office.
JRT- Right now I have three young pups so a JRT is not in the plan anytime soon.
My one westie is too smart.....it's actually amazing
Congratulations, Suz! Is Lucy all better now? She's really adorable. Bet she's a sweetie.
You'll have to get her a big pink bow like your gravatar!
Rebecka- Yes she is doing great! 2 extra rounds of antibiotic, some raw honey and running the humidifier at night did the trick. It took about 3 weeks until the cough went away. Poor thing sounded like she smoked 3 packs a day...lol But she was bought at one of those designer breed puppy stores...so basically she was a puppy mill puppy with health issues. She also had some parasites. But she has a clear bill of health and a happy 6 month old puppy. Here she is with big sister Ella.
Now that is the best picture in a long time. I know we've had some good ones here, but that really out does the rest.
However - just say no to the pink bow. Your pets will thank you. ;-)
I agree, GC - one of the best pics! Suz - that is awesome that she's doing great. She is so lucky that you rescued her and were willing and able to give her all the vet care she needed to recover. French Bulldog and Boston Terrier mix = one gorgeous dog! It's awful that puppy mills still exist in this day and age, of course, and the original owners who gave her up... how could you do that to a puppy? But in the end, it looks like Lucy and you and Ella were meant to be. Hoping this will be the end of her health troubles.
(Reminds me of the cats that were dumped at our barn. Stupid people who dumped them, but let me tell you they are the sweetest cats ever. So thanks to their act of negligence, we have some wonderful additions to our lives.)
Ella and Lucy look so happy together!
I still say she'd look great with a pink bow. ;-)
p.s. Suz - I'm a pet photographer. Because you rescued a sick dog and spent all that time and money getting her healthy, I'd love to give you a free photo session for both your girls. Just PM me if interested. :-)
Head down, paws up, sister go poo!!

I'm a hip-hop artist now. And Sugar sure can stink up the litter box....
OK. Done. I ramble a bit.
White Shoes you are too much. I assumed you were a dancer with your white shoes and all, but I had no idea you were a rapper, too. Is your street name Puss Daddy? (Tell dad to try Fresh Step Extreme if he hasn't yet, it's awesome.)
Here are my latest babies. You guys are sworn to secrecy - DH is blissfully unaware that we are keeping chickens again. And by "we" I mean me. ;-)
oh my - how cute --Rebecka - I saw the piggie today - adorable - are you sure you don't want it??
Not sure at all that I don't want piggy! Is he an indoor piggy? Or indoor/outdoor? I actually know someone who has a great little pig. Is he a potbelly big? And how much bigger will he get? DH *has* mentioned that he's always love to have a pig. Not sure it's the right time for us, though.
5catmom - With my luck Sugar will be the one to audition with her mega-ton bowel movement video. Seriously, Tigger's "Paws in the Air" was the real winner. That was real talent, White Shoes is just funning around. Her real talent is NHL Analyst. She watches that stuff non-stop. I have no idea why the TV is tuned to that all the time.
Rebecka - I've know what 3 world class pooper cats can do. I got Scoop Away Multi Cat. Leaves Freash Step boulder sized litter in the proverbial dust. Clumps better and got a very special odor neutralizer.
well if you want to talk poop and litter and boulders - come on over - with 5 using 3 boxes---thank goodness for my litter locker - makes things easier- if that can be described at easy - most of mine are big water drinkers so you can hardly imagine the mountains - ugh - and none of mine have the talents of yours ---
Sadie I think you are one spoiled girl! She looks so well groomed, Firefly. Puts me to shame. (Iggles is a hot mess right now.)
GC - I remember Tigger's Paws in the Air song!... about napping all the time. Too funny. We all miss him, but I'm sure no one misses him like you. Some animals are just extra-special...
Tigger's "hiphopercise":
http://www.hackettstownlife.com/forum/359719#t395163
Rebecka - Missing him is about what you don't have. I still have almost 13 years of non stop memories starting right from the day he was at the wheel going to drive himself to NJ. No one can tell his story like I can. ;-)
Rebecka - she's better groomed than I am! Sabina says she is extremely well behaved during grooming no matter who handles her. It's been a long year and she still has some mischievous puppy ways about her but we have bonded. Spencer is never far from my thoughts and although I do still miss him so much I am so happy that Sadie is in my life.
5catmom - you have a way of catching cats with their tongues out and mouths open! Is Pip sticking his tongue out at all of us?! :-) BTW just heard from K. about Chubby the piggy. He sounds amazing... will discuss with DH.
Let me know, Rebecka - if you go to meet him, I'd meet you there - would love to meet you...... Yes pip is sticking his tongue out at all of you --he knows better than to do that to me..............
I think Chubby is adorable
Three generations of dogs, photographed at about the same age. First and last pics were taken 10 years apart. Granddaddy, Mommy and puppy! :-) And all are great friends, and romp outside together like they're the same age.
Can somebuddy take a pitcha of their doggy in front of a crokiss or something and start a Spring/Summer thread because we are so DONE with this winter right??
xoIggy
