My husband has entered the Gold's Gym Body Transformation contest(http://www.goldsgym.com/gyms/index.php?gymID=0771 ) at our local Gold's Gym.
Has anyone here entered it? What do you think of it?
I guess they have over 70 people that have entered. It cost $75 to sign up and have the pictures taken and body fat analysis done.
What... No one else has entered? I hope that means my hubby will be winning the $1000.00!
He's lost 11 pounds so far! Good job, Honey!
SusieQ, the thought crossed my mind but then I decided to just get another session with my trainer and continue at my own pace. It's taken me an entire year to lose 25 lbs so I doubt I'd be a winner! I LOVE that gym!
I entered the contest too. I got a trainer and joined Weight Watchers. Just got engaged so would love to use the money for a wedding gown! Good luck to your husband.
Jag, do you like the muzak? I find it totally un-motivational. I listen to my ipod but I can still here it.
I love the gym, too. I really thought I wouldn't like it, but I DO!
I stay in the Ladies' area so I don't have to hear that muzak. Or, I go in the Cardio Cinema and watch a movie.
I don't know what is in their spray cleaner to wipe off the machines, but I am allergic to it! I feel bad not wiping down the machines when I am done with them, but I can't touch that stuff or my hands blister. When its dry it doesn't bother me. I worry that some people might think I am rude!
Can we talk about the Cardio Cinema....
What movies are playing, and times, and can u just tell me a little about it?
Sounds soooooo cool!
My schedule is too eratic so i don't bother with the contests.
The music is ok but definitely not what i normally like. I find it hard to lift weights to dance music though. Never understood that. But since it's a top 20 station (i'm guessing) they play some rock too which is better.
The cardiocinema has a new movie every day it seems like. Honestly i'm not huge on movies so i couldn't really name any but it seems like a good mix of fairly new movies.
SusieQ don't sweat it -- har, har, har! And wiping down the equipment in the gym that you have touched only with your hands is preposterous, although I see people do it.
No body wipes down the door knob after entering the gym and I haven't seen anyone wipe down the faucets after using them, the water cooler, the benches in the ladies lockers, the lockers, coat hangers, I could go on...
Cardio cinema -- different movie in a loop every day. I like it but they need some recliners and a snack bar in there.
I agree the wiping down thing can go too far. Only time i wipe something down is if i am really sweating on something. If i just run an easy mile i'm probably not wiping anything down.
How much does gold's gym cost? I'm looking to join a gym. How does it compare to other gyms in town?
I pay about $50 a month (that is the student rate) I joined January 2008. Not sure what it would be for family, couple, etc. They are all about the same in the area.
Dolly, I listen to my own music. Never used to but the repetition got to me after awhile! Or I plug in and watch the tv if something interests me.
As far as wiping down machines, I do the treadmill when I'm finished but nothing else. Honestly, since everyone repeatedly uses those sweaty rags to clean I figure it might not be very effective anyway. Just spreading sweat/germs all around IMO!
I don't usually do the cardio cinema because I don't like not seeing an entire movie, or missing parts - so I don't bother. The ladies gym is too bright and hot for my taste so I use the main area.
I highly recommend Teri as a trainer. Also love her Pilates class. Body By Golds is a great all-around work out. Kids Club is awesome. Only $20/month and my son loves it!
I don't think there is much of a discount (if any) for couples. We pay around $50 each for our memberships.
When I go in I usually ask the girls at the desk what movie is playing and when it will re-start because I don't like missing any parts of a movie either. Then I go work out on the weight machines until its time for the movie to re-start.
Sometimes they play some really inappropriate movies! I just go back to the ladies' area and watch tv or read a book or magazine while I'm on the elliptical or bike or whatever.
I don't like working with a trainer AT ALL. I don't want anyone standing there watching me! I do my research and learn the exercises I need to do, and that's that.
Susie Q, I didn't know the girls kept track of the movies at the desk, now I will ask too! And reading is a great way to pass the time and do something you might not have time for at home.
I wasn't sure about using a trainer, but now I wouldn't do it any other way. In addition to devising an entire routine for me and taking my measurements, including BMI, she also had me emailing her my food diary each day and monitoring calories. For me she was my incentive. I knew I had to face her sooner or later!
As of today, my hubby has lost 18 lbs! He practically LIVES at Gold's right now... Which is sort of annoying. He's determined to win the contest! I'm very proud of him for sticking to his diet, though. Its been hard for him to do the last couple of years.
Good job, Honey!
Do they have Expresso bikes there (the ones with the video monitors above the handlebars)?

ianimal,
I haven't seen those, but maybe they have them somewhere in the main area. I don't ever go out there... too chicken! LOL! I stay in the Ladies' area.
Those machines are pretty cool, though.
Iianimal,
No they dont. They do have this thing that you plug your headphones into and there are 8 or so tv's in front of you that you can watch and listen to, you pick the channel.
