Mansfield Inn Tavern
spent many nights at the Mansfield tavern...they had a talented pianist there...Clare Fox...what ever happened to him...he was blind...
"The Mansfield Inn" was the punchline of many jokes in my family during the 1980's
four hours and the food never came, so we left....I had never seen my usually mild-mannered Dad so angry about bad service...I think my grandma was there...she's not afraid to criticize bad service.
I'm sure others have had good experiences before, but not us...it was ridiculous. I still remember feeling so hungry and not eating and sitting there in a nice restaurant with a tank full of lobsters in sight and all we could do is sit there and play tic-tac-toe on the placemats.
LOL It was the first bar I ever stepped foot in! My 18th birthday my Mother took me when they had the chippendale strippers. So embarassing......Never went back.
I will check but I think he is still with us, Oldman. Hubby used to pick him and his dog up and take him to the Masonic meetings. Wondering why the Mansfield Inn has not sold yet myself. It has been on the market for a long time.
When I first moved here in 1984 there was a place for sale on 57 that had a sign "Olive Or Twist". It was run down. I thought it became Pane Vino. Is that the same place as The Mansfield Inn?
Erik,
The Inn was the punchline? LOL. I never knew this place, but why would anyone EVER wait 4 hours for food???
Isn't that the fireplace store now?
My wife (before I knew her) and her friends that used to work at Jamesway (which is now the movie theater) used to go to Olive or Twist after their shifts.
Ooops...I was thinking of Anderson Hotel...not Mansfield Inn on the corner of Asbury and Rte 57..that is where they had the male go go dancers years ago too thus the confusion. Just asked hubby, Oldman, and he said that Clare Fox is alive and well and he says he is back in the area as he just spoke to him a few weeks ago.
I remember seeing Clare Fox many years ago. I don't remember where I saw him but I enjoyed listening to him.
Enzos Pasta Grill was the Masfield Inn then it was Panevinos now its Enzos Pasta Grill.
The person who did the shooting had been at the Mansfield Inn with his girlfriend. Some events occurred that enraged him. He went home to get his gun and returned to shoot.
He was normally a nice person. Too bad he had a gun.
We've had our share around here. This one, the Benoist railroad shooting; the Mountain Avenue shooting; the Trooper Gonzalez shooting (which would have been a mass murder at Pizza Hut if he hadn't stopped the nut case.)
I did not start this thread to go over old shooting stories...I wanted to know how Clare Fox was doing...when he was playing piano at the Mansfield Inn...it was nice to be there...it warmed up the place
ask paulie if he is still around, I havnt heard of him in yrs but know some on page have.
So what? Threads take turns sometimes. Nobody meant any harm, including me.
Plus it's probably more interesting than your original post.
Get off it oldman.
Lori, I don't know. I was maybe 6 or 7 years old and my Dad and Grandma have passed away now, so I can't ask them.
I seem to remember a lot of promises from the wait staff. Maybe they were stringing us along.
Mansfield Inn shooting was may 23, 1982..4 people shot, police were shot at too, one got a bullet hole in his jacket..
I believe Clare Fox used to entertain the residents of Warren Haven back in 2003-04. When I visited my mom, they would have entertainment on occasion, and I think one of the visitors was Clare Fox.
Clare Fox also used to play at the Mt. Lake Casino every Sunday. He was great to listen to. I saw him ? last summer in Weis.
Hi, my name is Jessica. I lived above the Mansfield Inn with my family for 14 years. I was 9 when the shooting happened. I remember it like it was yesterday. I scary day indeed!
If anyone has an article, or picture of something from that time, I would love to see it.
I don't like guns to this day, sad that I saw what I did, but it was a different time.
Let me know if you have something from the Mansfield Inn.
Thanks
Paul the owner of the Mansfield Inn at the time of the shootings passed away many years ago
Does anyone remember Bob the bartender later 70's, early 80's? I'd love to hear some great stories!
