Pool ALWAYS opens Father's Day Weekend, and ALWAYS closes on Labor Day.
You can purchase badges on opening day and every day afterwards at the pool.
If you walk-in and pay the day rate, it doesn't matter where you live. Anyone over 62 pays $10.00 for a season pass, and it also doesn't matter where you live.
Per pool application: Non Resident Family is $180.00, Non Resident Adult or child is $100.00, Senior Citizen $10.00.
Resident Family is $105.00, Resident Adult or child is $50.00, Senior Citizen $10.00
My son is eleven. Anyone know of a service or certified person that may be able to give him swimming lessons there and also if it is even allowed? Thank you!
Becca, Htown pool offers swimming lessons. Check under recreation at www.hackettstown.net for info.
It looks to me that they added a new type of slide in the main pool. It has a tube on it.. It's cute!
Disgusting display of lifeguarding and management at the pool today. Had to leave when young boys started harassing me and making threats. Management did nothing and lifeguard should not be employed there. Safety was definitely overlooked.
Veronica you should contact Hackettstown Recreation Department regarding your concerns either via email at Recreation@Hackettstown.net or telephone at 908-852-4095. Be sure to include your contact information so that they can discuss your situation with you directly.
We were there this last week, and a man threatened a boy (who turned out to be autistic) that if he didn't stop splashing him he "would drown him." The lifeguards and management also did nothing, except talk to both parties, the man wasn't removed or anything. Ironically the same family with the boy had a small girl with them, who was struggling in the pool, and obviously in trouble. The lifeguards didn't notice and were talking to one another. The mother ran across the sidewalk and jumped into the pool to save her. The lifeguard after a few minutes at the guard changing came up to her and said "Sweetie are you ok? I though she was playing, I'm so sorry I forgot." Great, huh? I know you have to watch your kids at the pool but that frog pool needs at least three guards. One for the seat, one for the slide and one walking around. Maybe if they weren't so concerned with kids running/walking fast or policing food they would pay more attention to their real jobs, saving lives.
I was disgusted at the people on line to get in yesterday blocking the entrance so the kids in swim lessons couldn't get in or out! The line was horrendous...blocking traffic and the picnic area was MOBBED! I think it's time to limit the pool to Hackettstown residents only. From what I understand, a lot of the people there yesterday were not only non-residents, but from a distance away and know it's a "good deal" to come here. I will NEVER go on a holiday!!!
Parents do not watch kids enough at the pool. Crazy pa their rents do terrible job watching their kids. At park it was me who ran after child running in the road. Parents need to do better job
Parents should be the one making sure kids don't run..... lack of parenting today. I am a nanny and I watch kids very closely go into water with the little ones.... making sure they walk by the pool. Heck I even watch other kids cause parents not paying attention
Why was the mom not in the pool with small child and her son.....splashing could have been prevented
The pool cannot limit to residents only because it was built with public money.
Unfortunately Holidays have always been like that.
Any facility in NJ that is built with Green Acres Funding is open to the public.
Yesterday was probably the worst day at the pool simply b/c of the number of bodies. The lifeguards do an exceptional job, but when the numbers are great, they can't possibly see everyone. I do agree parents should watch their own children. The guards should not be expected to be babysitters.
First time we ventured there on 4th and it was just as I expected. We knew it would be crowded but it wasn't so bad for a few hours of fun. And thank you to all those BBQ-ing- smelled wonderful and drowned out the usual French fry smell:)
Agree- with small kids, parent(s) need to be in the pool.
I love the open forum and range of opinions this forum provides. In that spirit, I must say that the preceding comment by vous is a sad commentary on our sweet little town and shows that ugly racist feelings are just that. imho
They only charge more for "out of town residents" if they are pool members. Several years ago they increased the daily costs, maybe they need to increase it again. They did increase the cost of lessons this year. I doubt anyone objected. The pool IS a wonderful place to cool off.
@ vous...then do yourself and others a huge favor..............Don't go to the pool, because with an ignorant comment like that, I sure as heck don't want to sit next to you!!
They might as well fill the pool in as far as I care. I would really like to see the ratio of patrons to the pool Hackettstown residence vs out of towners. And I sure hope my taxes are not going up due to the raising costs of the pool. Pass that along to those that use it, not me.

I think that it is wonderful to have a large pool complex for a relatively low cost to enjoy during the summer - I don't have a pool myself and am very grateful to have a nearby pool in which to swim... granted, there are always little things that might be done differently, but on the whole, my experiences have been positive.... and if you don't like to share with others, build your own.
I'd rather pay what I do for a yearly pass at the H-town pool than what they charge at the Chester pool.
I believe that the Hackettstown Community Pool is open to the public because there was Green Acre money involved in building it. It serves the community well and should not be forgotten that we are lucky to have it.
I am a lifeguard at Hackettstown Pool, this is a public pool who allows nonmembers and people who are not residents of Hackettstown to attend. People who come from out of state find this a peaceful place to stay and we welcome them. We advise that you watch your kids as we have many saves a day. To limit our whistle blowing you MUST warn your kids about the no running signs. Also, NO FOOD. And do not try to hide it because many lifeguards do find people who have food and try to hide it. Thank you!

Also, we try our best as lifeguards to protect you guys as people of our pool. However, with so many bodies it is hard for us to manage little things. Sometimes we need to focus on the safety of others. Management will always take care of your problems if you tell them, however, you cannot expect us to suspect every problem in the pool. You must report it to us as it will make it easier for us. Complaints about this pool are unnecessary as we work LONG hours trying to protect the lives of you. We understand your problems and if necessary please contact us. Thank you for the positive feedback and hope you understand!

A problem was brought to the pool manager's attention. However, the manager clearly sided with the lifeguard, as well as, the boys harassing people and making threats. The kids were punks that seemed to be left without parental supervision. The boys distracted the lifeguard from doing his job and the lifeguard just laughed it all off. One weak link ruins the integrity of the entire system, which is usually quite good.
Not to mention that the boys completely affected the experience of other kids at the pool that day. Cutting in line, jumping on the diving board before everyone waiting, hanging out in the water excessively long, and jumping in the water before kids were at the stairs. Just ruins everyone's good time. Except the lifeguard's good time. He laughed the entire time. Thought the kids were just hilarious. The second the new lifeguard showed up, she stopped all of the boys' stupid behavior. It was awesome.
The employees at the pool do a tremendous job. The Town of Hackettstown is blessed to have so many caring professionals. Rather than everyone expecting them to police every behavior, perhaps grown adults should join together as a community and encourage each other and their children to respect one another and the facility that provides so much enjoyment to so many.
As to non-residents, they are fellow Americans who deserve the same level of respect we want from others.
There is no other municipally owned pool in the U.S. that operates on a $0.00 budget and has run in the black for 40 years in a row. The Lifeguards and Staff deserve all the credit that people can direct to them for making all this possible.
Those of us who focus on all the positives should tell as many emplyees, "thank you" just because we mean it.

I do think the parents should pay closer attention to their kids, too many are running around like maniacs. It's not the lifeguards job to police the kids (and adults!), I see so many kids misbehaving and the parents aren't even watching.
I agree with others above, that parents need to take more responsibility for their children at the pool. I was a lifeguard at HCP back in the days of Al Panis. We had the same issues then, crowding on weekends and holidays, kids running, trying to sneak food. At the end of the day, lifeguards do a trash pickup and we always had to pick up food packaging, dirty diapers etc.
The pool is not a babysitting service. The lifeguards rotate stands every 15 minutes to keep their focus sharp and should always be watching the water more than everything else that's going on. If they are not they shouldn't be doing this job. Most are teenagers and some teens are just more mature than others.
I ended up going to work at Panther Valley guarding the V3 and V4 pools instead, did that for 4 years, and it was much better! If anything should be changed at HCP, they might want to consider a maximum occupancy headcount for safety.
They stuff people in that facility like sardines in a can. Their maximum occupancy is too high. Bottom line is that I don't touch public pools with a 10-ft pole. They are disgusting and I don't care how much chlorine is in the water. Fortunately my husband is more blasé about it and doesn't mind taking our son for an occasional swim.
You want to talk about sardines in a can, go to Hurricane Harbor at Six Flags on a holiday weekend. The wave pool had too many people in it, the water was like 100 degrees, and people were getting trampled. My only complaint about the town pool is that they should expand the BBQ area, maybe put more grills on the other side. It's ridiculous how many people are set up in that small spot on a busy day. I literally walk out my front door to that. I don't know how that can be enjoyable for people to be all crowded together trying to eat.
I am a pool member and like the pool in "small doses". 4th of July was horrible. The only complaint I would have other than the parents who really need to not only learn manners themselves but teach their kids manners as well is that the "frog pool" is for children to swim and play not groups of parents to congregate and shoot the breeze. They take up entire sections of the pool with their socializing instead of watching their children!
The occupancy at the pool gets worse every year..its filled with out of towners that come in cars & vans filled with people & you have to practically push your way through the line to show your membership badge or else wait in a line that at times snakes around to the eating area & then some..theres an unruliness in the pool that's disturbing & i swear there should be some kind of Health Dept rule about the amount of hair that floats in the water there..its disgusting to feel it while you're trying to swim..i don't know what the solution is but i don't go there like i used to..if you want to get in the water when its relatively quiet & the water is still clean you should get there at noon when they open because by 2pm its a whole other world.

Hhmmm...some people are sitting near me and have food near the pool. Should I dime them in? I say yes.
UGH....When I was little I got Impetigo from that place. Public pools scheve me out.
When is the next round of swimming lesson sign ups? The web page isn't loading lesson info for me.
Lesson sign ups are tomorrow from 7-9 for pool members and Weds for members and non members.
I have to say the Belvidere pool is great. I've never experienced drama, overcrowding or rude people. Also, nonresidents can go there.
I absoloutely love this pool! I'm from out of town and love to bring my family there. The staff is friendly and professional. I've never experienced any issues during our visits. I drive an hour with my family and it's well worth it! I highly recommend it to everyone.
My family has been in Hackettstown for 15 years and my children always wanted a pool, but our backyard does not enable us to have one. So this year we joined the pool and wished we had joined sooner. It is a nice amenity to living in Hackettstown and the fee is fantastic!!!! Better late then never.
My kids have been taking swimming lessons there all summer. The teachers are great-
very positive, patient and fun. Great job- plus my kids love it:).
I know outside food is not allowed in the pool area but can you bring water in that is not purchased there?
