Accident on Rt. 46 at Naughright.

Bad accident on Rt. 46W at Naughright. Hope there aren't any injuries but it looked bad.

I hate that intersection. It's soooo dangerous. Prayers going out to those involved.

There's nothing wrong with the intersection. It's the people who drive through it who are dangerous. Some drivers making the left from Naughright onto 46 West mysteriously think that they have the right-of-way over the drivers going straight across from Sand Shore to Naughright. There is no green arrow to indicate that this is the case, yet I see near-misses all the time.

Maybe the DOT should put up a sign that says "Hey Stupid, don't cross the opposite lane when there is a vehicle in it traveling toward you at 30 mph".

But, I too hope that everyone is ok. Stupidity isn't a capital offense.

Traveling west on 46 through that intersection is dangerous because the light is not visible till you are up close to it - I'm not sure why they design it like that, but it's annoying and a safety hazard. I'm sure it's intended to slow you down but I spend so much time gazing at the light to see what color it is that I could hit anyone in between.

I passed that accident on my way home from work tonight, everyone looked ok but the cars were messed up!

The accident didn't happen AT the intersection, but before it, going west bound. The pick up that was hit, was waiting in the left turning lane to turn left. The car that caused the accident suddenly swerved to the left at seemingly full speed, slamming into the pick up. Thank goodness there was no oncoming traffic at that time, as it could have been catastrophic.

Thanks for the explanation, I was wondering what happened since the cars were involved weren't in the intersection.

ianimal - you are so right - I take the left turn from naughright onto Route 46W every weeknight and I have to admit that on the rare occasion I have not paid enough attention to the cars crossing the intersection from Naughright. Fortunately, I've never caused an accident or been in one.

On the flip side, some of those cars crossing Naughright from the north heading south zoom through that intersection and cars turning left onto 46W can't see them until they come flying around the corner.

I now try to be super careful going through there.
