where to take dog swimming in area
is their anywhere around hackettstwon to take my dog swimming? | papoose77 July 22, 2008 9:57 am | Link |
The Musconetcong River.
If you just want them to get wet, then Alumni field. If you want a place you can also swim, then Penwell Dam. | Agust July 22, 2008 11:02 am | Link |

Just past Penwell on 57, going west, is a traffic light. Make a left there and it takes you down to another river crossing. A nice (usually quieter) spot. Our dog used to love it there.
Penwell is towards Washington, past Beattystown on rt 57 as you go up the hill there is a road on your left with a sign for Camp Bernie. This takes you back down to the river, there is a relatively deep pool above the dam. This has been a local swimming hole for many years, but pay attention there is sometimes broken glass around there.
The spot Chiman is talking about is Point Mountain. About 1.5 miles downriver from Penwell is a light by Mansfield elementary school. I should note that this is Hunterdon County Parks property and they may have rules about unleashed dogs. It is a quiet and pretty spot with large pools and interesting rocks and often pretty fair fishing. | Agust July 22, 2008 4:20 pm | Link |
I take Lucy and my client's dogs to Stephen's State Park, Saxon Falls and the river that crosses Long Bridge Road in Allamuchy (parking area 100 yards off intersection of Alphano Road)...
Farther out of town..Hedden Park in Rockaway and Merrill Creek Reservoir in Broadway.
And, of course...Island Beach State Park ---->

BFF--what a cute pic!
My relatives take their dogs for a walk around Mountain Lake in Liberty Twp and let them go for a swim there. Its a nice small lake, and the walk is beautiful.
Take Rt. 46 west through Great Meadows, go north on Hope Road (Co. Rd. 611) about a mile, then turn left on Mountain Lake Road and follow it to the lake. You can park near that old restaurant that is on the south side of the lake. | SusieQ July 23, 2008 11:31 am | Link |
FYI the river at Long Bridge Road is the Pequest. | Agust July 23, 2008 12:26 pm | Link |

we live in Wayne, NJ and looking for a place to take our Chesapeake Bay Retriever to swim. We have been to the Ramapo Reservation in Mahwah but we are looking for something a little closer to our home for taking her after a day at work. Thank you. | Julie August 15, 2008 1:23 pm | Link |
