Kittens...We Need To Find Homes So We Can Rescue More...

Hi there fellow forumers!

Just wanted to drop a quick note on here in case anyone is looking to open their home up to a kitty (or two). Three weeks ago while buying hay from a local farmer we noticed that he had FOUR litters of kittens that had all been born in his barn. Most of the kittens were ill and were not going to have very good lives...so we took the three that needed the most immediate help...treated them for ear mites, fleas and gave them a course of antibiotics and continued taking care of them at our farm. Now it's time to find them a forever home so we can go back and bring three more to the farm that need help.

If anyone is interested...I have a black and white as well as a tiger who are ready for homes. They will however need a trip to your vet...I would suggest you have them tested for FIV since they are "feral." They have been dewormed (twice) but will need a check up. They are between 6 and 8 weeks old.

Please email me ASAP at HipPupPetServices@gmail.com

We are really looking forward to being able to assist the other kitties in need...but need to make room first. All kitties have been "child-proofed" as well as "dog proofed."

I can't take a kitten, but I feel I should mention how great it is that you're helping them.

I am in the process of adopting a kitten now. I have a dog and a cat already. My friend's mother was vacationing in South Carolina when they discovered a stray cat with kittens under the front porch. Soon after making this discovery she found the mother cat dead on the road. So everyone she was with took one kitten. I don't want to introduce the kitten to my other pets until I know it isn't a health risk to them. I took it to the vet and had it's ear mites cleaned and had it tested for worms. Unfortunately, the kitten is too young to test for FIV, they think he's between 4 and 5 weeks old. In two weeks I'll have him tested. Until then he'll be staying with my friend's mom.

*** Also...if anyone would be willing to foster two of the kitties until I can find them a home - I would provide everything they need - food, bowls, toys, kitty box and litter ***

The owner of my barn went over to the farm that they came from and said there are four kitties that need medical attention ASAP, but she wants to have the healthy kitties out of the house before bringing the sickly ones home. She wants to get them Wednesday....but I need to find AT LEAST a foster home for 2 of the healthy ones (the black/white and the tiger).

If you are willing to foster the two little ones, please contact me ASAP at HipPupPetServices@gmail.com

* They are too small to be given free roaming rights through an entire house...they are quite happy in a bathroom or small bedroom with their toys and bed.

*** And as an added bonus if you adopt one or both I will provide FREE pet sitting services (as long as you are within 15 miles of Hackettstown) for one year OR if you can foster the two I will provide TWO FREE pet sitting visits for your own pets ***

Come on, can't beat that deal! : )

While I have a dog that was initially raised with cats before I adopted him, I'm allergic to cats and couldn't take any. I realize that it possibly would have caused conflict with the farmer but did you educate him about spaying neutering or are they likely to let nature continue to take its course? It's sad to think that these and the other kittens mentioned were in such a compromising position due to their owner's lack of knowledge or care. Kudos for stepping in and helping them!

Unfortunately, the "old time" farmers usually just let nature take it's course. The feral cats are attracted to the milking barns for obvious reasons and the farmers don't mind them being around since they keep the rodent population down. Besides that they really have no interest in the health or safety of the kitties and when you start telling them about proper care and feeding they look at you like you have three heads and one eye. We are happy that they are allowing us to take them, and if possible we will start taking in the adults and having them spayed/neutered and treated medically before either finding them homes or releasing them back on the farm. At least if they are fixed we can stop some of the future litters. Sadly, the cost of caring for just one kitten initially is almost $200 not including food and the time it takes to rid them of fleas while socializing them at the same time. The woman who owns the farm where I keep my horses (and takes in the kittens) is a stay at home mom who was recently divorced with little income...so we are doing what we can. There are not too many vets in this area who are willing to provide low cost care (Hackettstown Animal Hospital does do low cost spay/neuter) or even donate their time and medicine to stray animals. We would def. be able to go and rescue more if we had a vet who would donate to the cause...

Re: Kittens...We Need To Find Homes So We Can Rescue More...I'd also like to add that both of our kittens are being placed in "forever homes" this evening...both with Hackettstown Life Forum members! Thanks guys!

We will now be able to go and get another bunch in need of care thanks to these kind folks!

I am not looking to hijack this thread, however I was looking on N.NJ craigslist and saw a person who is also looking to place kittens (that were not vetted yet, however) with loving homes. If anyone else is currently looking for kittens, please consider rescuing! Good work saving the kitties! :)

Also, if anyone is looking for low cost spay/neutering vets or clinics I'd be happy to help you find one! Just ask!
