howdy.
looking for some ideas from camping with the family.
maybe 2 - 3 hr radius.
ideally looking for tent sites, but with campground facilities (showers, toilets etc) and would be great to have a beach/lake nearby.
thanks!
Cedar Creek Campground in Bayville is nice. They have different areas for tent camping, trailers and they also have very small, very rustic cabins to rent. They have a pool and the usual other fun stuff to do in a campground. Also, canoe's are available to rent for a trip down Cedar Creek. The campground is only a few blocks from the bay (great if you have a boat to trailer down) and not far to the ocean. Also, not far from Seaside if you're into the boardwalk thing.
Sorry, I don't have their phone # handy.
State Campgrounds NJ-
Worthington on the Delaware River just north of the Gap, just watch out for bears.
Swartzwood Lake - Boat rental available, good playground for younger kids too.
Stokes State Forest - Better have a reservation it gets packed, but you can also get cabins.
NY - I always like Covered Bridge up near Roscoe on the Beaverkill River.
Staying kinda local - Jenny Jump State Park in Hope is really nice. I also like Mahlon Dickerson, Morris County Park in Jefferson. Dont think there is swimming at either though but Mahlon has a really nice lake a short hike from their camping area. Worthington State Park is great camping with the Delaware River and Sunfish Pond.
Use Hope(jenny jump) or Worthington so they don't get closed. The more people use them the more likely they are too remain open. Enjoy.
PS. try the Pine Barrens. Awesome
Be careful in the pine barrens. They never found that russian from the soprano's.
Promised Land State Park in PA is wonderful! They have great sites, and brand new nice showers by the Lower Lake Campground, but the Pickerel Point Campground area has more privacy and a nice swimming beach area. There is a larger swimming area by the picnic area that is lifeguarded. They have boat rentals, too. The hiking trails are awesome, and they do nature programs for free quite often. Here is there website:

Its not that far! Its probably an hour and a half from here. Definitely worth the trip. We go up there during the summer about 5 times. Its great!
Well, if you want to head north where the nights are a little cooler, try North-South Lake State Campground in the Catskills.
I went to Kean Lake in PA a few years ago and that was very nice. At that time it was very family oriented, no loud parties going on.

There is a wonderful family campground in elysburg, PA called Knoebels. Campground and an amusement park across the street. Always a family favorite!
Try Hither Hills In Montauk, NY
It is like camping almost on the beach \
150/week
It books up well in advance but sometimes you can score a cancellation
20 minutes away on Route 46 West is Delaware River Family Campground. Many nice tent sites, bathroom with showers, heated pool, playground and volleyball court(sand), also access to the Delaware River for boating.
